Dear Rich Just to say we had the most wonderful week in your really lovely BHI home. We loved every minute - and each person found special things about the place and being there! The swimming was great and we loved sitting out on the deck and going for little trips in the boat. Matthew loved catching fish from the pontoon but I think Pete and I specially appreciated the tranquillity of the place and that magnificent view - we painted several little pictures to try and capture it! We all got lots of lovely reading done too - a real treat. You were quite right about not wanting to go anywhere else - it is just so perfect there is no reason to leave it except for supplies! I hadn't quite realised about leaving the key in the boat (until we me someone called Vinny who was changing the dustbins (rather than Jane coming out at 10.00 to check everything was alright) - so I hope we were right to leave the key in that way. We left a note for Jane in the house. I assume the deposit will come back to me once you have checked things up with Jane will it? I think everything was ship-shape when we left - we did make sure to do an extra good clean because we do like to do that. Thanks again for a really special holiday - and it was especially nice to meet you and Diane too and hear about the history of the house. Every best wish Liza

Perfect Memories!

Perfect Memories!

Brandy Hill Island was more amazing than we expected. The view from the loft is especially beautiful in the morning. I thought we would "sleep in" on vacation. Not a chance. Could not bear to waste precious time on BHI. We started most mornings making breakfast on the grill followed by canoeing to the back of the island for fishing. Great fishing! We catch and release but caught about 80 fish. I know this because we had a wager for the week. We caught several nice bass, perch and many large sunfish, bluegills and crappies. Multiple trips to the Country Store for dillies, very convenient for any basic supplies and bait. The beach was our favorite area, spent the majority of our days there. Swimming, sunning and floating on rafts. We were impressed with the lake water. Very clean, clear and a comfortable temperature for swimming. The pontoon was enjoyable. We took several evening cruises but did not use it as much as we thought we would. It is a necessity of course to get to the mainland, but you really do not need it for much else as everything you need is on or around the island. We had beautiful weather, temperature was in the 80's all week.No need for air conditioning, the breeze makes everything comfortable inside and outside of the house. We had plenty of water and electricity. Island living is different but if you follow the handbook you will have everything you need.

We spent one day in Putnam - very close and great antique shops. Enjoyed lunch at The Crossing(old train station). Great food and service.

Rich and Diane - it was a pleasure meeting you. We really enjoyed your company. Hope to see you again one day. Also enjoyed a visit on the mainland with your friends and enjoyed the fresh garden vegetables they shared with us. The tremendous amount of time and love that you have both invested is BHI is apparent in every detail. We have 7 days of unforgettable memories. Thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise with us!

Amazing, beautiful and WONDERFUL!!

  • 5 of 5

To say our stay was wonderful is simply an understatement! We have never had such an amazing experience as our week on Brandy Hill Island! Words can't describe the feeling one gets when you get out of your car and look across the water and realize THAT will be home for a week! I said to my husband, "It feels so good to do absolutely nothing-except relax!" Something all of us need to do now and then! The use of the pontoon boat was awesome and the fishing was a lot of fun. Thank you so much for sharing your home with those of us who seek out "unique"! I wish is could rate more than 5 stars!!

Owner's Response: Mary, I am so happy that you and your husband enjoyed the island and all it offers. Having owned it now for almost 30 years, my wife and I feel blessed to share it with clients like you. We know it's a special place! While it's not for everyone, those who love its simplicity usually have the best vacations. Thank you for your kind words! Hope you have a wonderful summer! Rich

Breathtakingly Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

I'm a girl that loves the water, so much so that I have a hard time picking my favorite part of our vacation. The fireworks over the lake were AMAZING!!! Swimming from island to island was so much fun and the fishing, well I can NEVER get enough of that.

What you see in the pictures is exactly what you get. The house and property was very well taken care of and the owners were as sweet as can be. The people around the lake were very friendly, looking out for one another. (Like the good old days) :)

I would highly recommened Brandy Hill Island (BHI) to anyone that just wants to get away to a private retreat. Yet it was close enough that if my daughter in law went into labor (with their first child) I was only an hour and a half away. My one word that would describe BHI is PERFECT!!!

Sincerely

Bob and Nancy Kosswig

Owner's Response: Thanks so much Nancy and Bob for your honest feedback on your BHI vacation. You're the perfect type of clients that the island invites to spend time at this "unique retreat." We're delighted that you and your family enjoyed your experience and all the natural elements of BHI and Quaddick Pond. It was our pleasure to meet you, and we hope you'll return for another "perfect" vacation. All the best and congratulations on the birth of your new granddaughter Kyla. Rich and Diane

Amazing & memorable vacation!

  • 4 of 5

When taking a summer vacation with my parents plus our 2 year old, we wanted a place within 3-4 hours of NYC and where we could relax, get away from it all, and enjoy some lake time. And Brandy Hill Island did not disappoint us at all (except for water pressure in the shower, but that was minor inconvenience)! The lake is beautiful with many nice properties surrounding it, and being in the middle of the lake on the island offers beautiful views from many angles. The fishing was pretty good, even for amateurs like my dad and I, and we had a delicious bass dinner one evening with our largest catch (Rich, the owner, provided various tips and even a lake map with his favorite hot spots). It was very nice that the island comes with various boats and we took a sunset cruise every night in the pontoon boat (we noticed everyone on the lake does that, it's great!). While we were on the island, the NE experienced a massive heat wave so being away from my central AC was making me nervous. I'm happy to say even without window/wall units, the house and island were fine in 100+ temps. There is always at least a nice breeze moving air around, and plenty of shade and obviously the lake for swimming/cooling off. When we went to the mainland on one of the hot days, the heat differential from the island to the mainland was drastic (lack of wind/breeze on the mainland vs constant breeze on the island). All in all I would recommend Brandy Hill Island to almost anyone, and it is sure to make for a very memorable vacation (when else will you have an entire island to yourself?!?). Thanks again!!! A+++

Owner's Response: Brandy Hill Island Were Memories Are Made! Thanks for taking the time to write your review. Diane and I appreciate it. You touched on a very good point while being up at the island during the heat wave. The question I receive the most is - Do you have AC?- My answer is similar as you stated in your review. BHI's unique placement on the quaint pond and the shade of our trees offers a pleasant breeze and environment even during a heat wave. The difference between the island's temperature and the mainland temperature has always amazed us. Brandy Hill Island is a self sufficient property with solar power and propane power. It is an amazing spot for vacation. Thanks for sharing and taking care of our home while on vacation Rich and Diane.

GREAT VACATION!

  • 5 of 5

Brandy Hill Island was the best vacation experience my family and i had! The island was beautiful, we had great weather, and got to relax without all the outside attractions. I enjoyed not having to run around and spend alot of money on extras. We enjoyed family time, playing board games together, cards, doing puzzles ect. At homes its so busy and i dont think i realized my 9 year old enjoyed these things. We will be doing more like this at home. Swimming, boating, and fishing were also so enjoying to do as a family, Definetly were memories are made!
