What makes this cabin unique

There are no other houses in it's expansive view across the peaks of Catskill Park and the East Branch of the Delaware River. At night, all one can see from the deck is stars over the mountain peaks. Because the surrounding land is protected by NYC DEP and New York State, that view will never change. It truly is the best of both worlds.

This cabin was built by the original owner in 1970. He patterned it after US Forest Service cabins from the 1950's, which are still dotted here and there in the Catskills. The white pine logs were milled in Arkville, hauled to the site, then hand-cut by the original owner and his brother that summer. You can still see the marks from their tools in some of the beams.

It was the first house on this particular part of the mountain and as such sits on the highest habitable point. It is literally the end of the road. Because there was no electricity on the mountain until the mid 1980's, the original cabin had gas lighting, a fireplace for heat, and gravity fed spring water. These days it has well water, electric lights, gas heat, and all the modern conveniences, but still retains that the rustic charm synonymous with the Catskills.

Best vacation ever!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great vacation and definitely want to do it again! The property is beautiful with magnificent views and lots of grass and wild flowers with paths that our kids were able to run between. We also had a great time picking flowers with them. The cabin is clean and very well maintained with all the necessary amenities. Its rustic look is very charming. I definitely recommend this place especially if you are looking to totally zone out. It's really private. The owner is really helpful and answered all of our questions and gave us great advice.

Peaceful Getaway

A beautiful and serene area and a cabin with every amenity imaginable. A perfect place to get away from it all and recharge. Very private but helpful and friendly neighbors nearby. I had a great time.

Beautiful Autumn Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable and well-maintained cabin on a quiet, secluded hilltop. My wife and I spent most of our time here reading and relaxing with the beautiful views. There's plenty of nearby hiking opportunities, including walking out the front door and down the gravel road leading up to the cabin (you don't need 4WD -- we made it in a Honda Fit -- but it helps to be comfortable driving on steep gravel towards the end). We ate at the cabin for most meals, but Andes and Margaretville (both within 15 minutes) have enough dining options to round out a week's stay, and the grocery store in Margaretville has just about everything you could need (for wine & spirits, there's a store on Main St. in M'ville). The kitchen was well stocked; the only thing we missed was a tea kettle. If you're looking for a luxury bathroom, this probably isn't your destination -- it's rather small, but it is entirely adequate. Also, if it's essential that you be able to build a fire, this might not be for you, because although there is a fireplace, you're not allowed to build fires (for understandable reasons). That said, it was still very cozy and we'd definitely recommend it overall. We hope to return in the future!

Owner's Response: We've replaced the teakettle with a nice new Chantal one - thanks for alerting us that the old one had gone missing. Our homeowners insurance prevents us from allowing fires inside the cabin unfortunately, but we are putting in a nice big outdoor fire next to the swing for the 2014 season. We enjoyed having you stay with us. Please come again.

Heavenly Retreat

  • 5 of 5

A great place to get away. Comfortable, quiet, nicely secluded with a spectacular view of the mountains. There's a very cool swimming hole five minutes away. There's a grocery store about a fifteen minute drive away that has pretty much everything you want or need. We stocked up before we got to the cabin and weren't inclined to leave. I definitely recommend this spot if you want to spend time away in the Catskills. We will definitely be returning.

Relaxing Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent a few days at the cabin mid-September and had a wonderful time. It was peaceful and relaxing, exactly what we were looking for. We spent lots of time exploring the parks and reservoir and even rented a canoe on the river. The house is well-equipped and we cooked at home every morning and night (lots of grilling). The views are fantastic, especially in the morning, and the stars at night were surreal. We enjoyed the satellite radio and Netflix for entertainment at night. The only thing I would add is the cabin sits at the top of several miles of gravel road so make sure your vehicle is up for some hardwork. We hope to return.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for staying with us! You're right, a four-wheel drive car isn't necessary, but since you're at the top of the mountain, the last bit of the drive is pretty steep. We hope to see you again next year! Adrian & Joe

Serene Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are looking forward to staying at this cabin again. It is private, beautifully decorated, and supplied with most of the amenities you need for your stay. Restaurants and stores are available within a short drive. The property is well-maintained and the yard is nicely landscaped with many wildflowers. We highly recommend this cabin.
