Wonderful spacious clean home

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend staying at Hilary's home. To start, Hilary had clearly come up to the house from NYC early in order to prepare her home for our arrival. The house itself is very large and open - there was plenty of space for our entire group to either be together or to be in separate rooms. There is a beautiful library with a fireplace that we spent hours enjoying over the course of the weekend. The kitchen is fully supplied with everything that we need for our cooking, including a large oven and stove. We absolutely loved the surround sound music and spent hours enjoying the music during our relaxing dinners and fire times. The grill outside also worked phenomenally and was definitely worth the trudge through the snow. There is a huge grocery store nearby so we were able to get everything we needed. There are lots of cute towns and beautiful wineries in the area to enjoy, though you would definitely need a car in order to get around and we were very surprised by how early shops closed in the towns (we visited at 6pm on a Saturday in February and most of the shops were closed!). Hilary herself was so kind and very communicative, which we truly appreciated. The only hiccup of our stay was they the internet was out, but Hilary was extremely upfront about the issue and it honestly didn't bother us much because we had such a great time just being together. All in all we had a wonderful time and would be thrilled to return here.

The Happy Home could not be a more appropriate name

  • 5 of 5

A group of us (girlfriends) stayed at The Happy Home for 5 days and wish it could have been longer. The house was amazing. There are several really comfortable large areas (the kitchen, the great room and library) where we comfortably could all spread out and relax. The house is also so large that there's always areas to enjoy some privacy too. The decor is also beautiful - with all sorts of amazing pieces of art - and it makes it feel like a home (not a rental property). The kitchen is a dream with amazing appliances and has a great seating area and it came supplied with all of the plates, pots, pans, utensils and even spices so it was really easy to pick up a few things and be able to cook entire meals. We loved not needing a car and were able to walk to town (great stores and restaurants) and to the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. The outside spaces at the house are stunning - we were there in the Fall and the trees were beautiful. The hardest part was deciding where to sit outside - there is a deck off the kitchen, another gazebo-like area off the library, chairs in the yard and a beautiful sitting area off the living room. The beds are comfortable and there were plenty of blankets and linens. There's even a laundry room if you need it. Also the wi-fi worked great as a few of us needed to check in for some work things. We'll definitely be back!

Rhinebeck Retreat

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful house! It was so sunshiny and spacious- just what our spirits were craving. Hilary typically meets guests upon arrival, but although she had a scheduling conflict, she made it work by meeting me in NYC ahead of time to go over paperwork and give me the key. She was wonderful enough to keep the pool open an extra week for us, for a small fee. The location was great-- a three minute drive into town or an easy and pretty walk/jog in. The property was lovely, and we enjoyed the side porch, back deck, and pool patio. The kitchen was very user-friendly, and we stayed in one rainy evening to cook and be cozy. What an incredible book collection! Records, tapes, and cd's were fun to look through, too. The kids- ages 5 and 9 - loved exploring, all the room to play, and the whirlpool tub! The only complaint I have is that the house was close to a road that, while not heavily trafficked, did give us some noise.

Review for Mt Runsen House in Rhinebeck

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the "Happy Home" for three weeks and had a wonderful time. We all loved the pool and the kids were happy rescuing pool toys and a few real frogs that accidentally jumped in. My husband and I loved the back deck where we grilled amazing meat and vegetables from farm stands and the Rhinebeck farmers market. The house is so close to town that we often walked in; it is so nice to be able to avoid getting in the car for a few days. This house really has everything: amenities and location. I can't wait to get back!

A great choice

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming house! It's very attractive and comfortable, with a wonderful kitchen, a beautiful deck with grill, and a lovely pool. The location is perfect -- a great base from which to explore the Hudson Valley, and very close to Rhinebeck, which is a delightful little town. The owner was very helpful and made us feel right at home. I'm ready to go back!

The Happy House

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful house in the Hudson Valley and is perfectly located a short distance from the town of Rhinebeck. The owner was extremely helpful and truly made us feel welcome. As a family of 5 with 3 young boys, there was plenty of room for everyone. We cannot wait to get back to "The Happy House", our home away from home.
