Tired, run down, neglected house in A1 Location...

Beware - this is not a house in the traditional sense. Two out of the 3 bedrooms are only accessible from the completely unsecured garden, so totally unsuitable for children. The house is in a great location but is very run down and in need of TLC. Broken sofas, broken kitchen cabinets. Water only works in one area of the house at a time. Tired door furniture - one bedroom locks you out when you leave it etc as its got an internal hotel lock from circa 1980 something. You get the picture. Layout is just bizarre. If you contact the owner with anything negative he doesn't reply at all. The garden is a mud bath whenever it rains as its only about half grass and half mud and there is very little in the way of effort to make it nice. Its the bare minimum all the way and in dire need of investment. We had to cancel our final week of 6 weeks due to the house being unsuitable for my disabled mother due to the layout, and no refund was given, no replies to E Mails etc even though the advert at the time of booking was completely misleading. The owner was fully aware that we were coming with children for the first part of the stay and still there was no mention of the bedrooms of the "house" actually being totally disconnected rooms accessible only from the garden. Shameful behaviour and very disappointing. We aren't complainers and this place is very cheap for the island so good value, but the layout of the house is a major deal breaker for a family with small kids and we should have been made aware. Lastly the lack of security at the house is a concern. There is a regular local (friendly but not ideal!) who hangs out daily at the end of the garden, and we had a few strange knocks on the door at night as literally anyone can enter front or back without warning - any kind of half decent gate at the back would be sensible if nothing else! We have been regular visitors to the island for 30 years and rented many places. Location is 5* here... but thats where it ends.

Badly maintained house in nice location

We are frequent visitors to Barbados and have stayed in a few different locations and accommodation styles so far. Unfortunately, our stay in the "Beach Villa" was one of the more unpleasant ones.

The house is situated 5 minutes north of Holetown and just a few steps away from Folkestone Marine Park. It offers direct views of the sea and access to two beaches in walking distance. During our stay we were taken care of by lovely Mrs. S., who transformed whatever groceries we got from the supermarket into some tasty dinner. The covered terrace was great for sunset drinks in the evening.

Those amenities brightened our experience in this poorly maintained house. And if it wasn’t for Mrs. S. and the maid who did their best to keep everything fairly clean we would have been even more disappointed by the bad overall condition the house was in. It started off with one of the downstairs bedrooms which was uninhabitable due to a strong mouldy smell for the whole week – despite all of our’s and the owner's efforts to get rid of it. Aside from the smell, the room was gloomy and poorly furnished (basically a tiny mattress on a wooden plank). Therefore, as we have booked the house for 6 persons, we didn't have enough beds during our stay which caused a lot of discomfort.

The other two bedrooms were better but especially the (short) beds were also in desperate need of a makeover. The three en-suite bathrooms were fine except for one elementary aspect: the lack of water pressure. Taking a shower with just drips of water if someone else turns up as much as one single tap in the house, is not a comfortable experience.

The garden is still in bad shape with no grass in most parts of it.

Bottom line: The location near Holetown is perfect and the lovely people and beautiful beaches never cease to amaze us! But nevertheless, at least for us, an important element of a relaxing and enjoyable holiday is having a good night sleep and not having to care about anything. This was not the case here at the “Beach Villa”. Upon booking, we knew that we have rented an older house and had our expectations set for that. But considering the price, we also expected a certain minimal standard of cleanliness and comfort. It is apparent that the owner was not willing to do some much needed investment in renovations in the past. The “Beach Villa” definitely has great potential but under the current conditions we can not and will not recommend it to anyone.

Superurlaub, mit direktem Blick und Zugang zum Meer.

Wir haben den Blick auf die See von der überdachten Terrasse sehr genossen , ob beim Frühstück oder beim abendlichen Sundowner, wobei wir in dieser Woche jeden Tag die untergehende Sonne genießen konnte. Was könnte schöner sein, nach mitgebrachten Lebensmitteln sich von Frau Sheppard bekochen zu lassen. Herrlich entspannter Urlaub. Die Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Restaurants sind gut zu Fuß zu erreichen. Wir bewohnten die Villa zu fünft und würden auf alle Fälle wieder hinfahren.

Ein absolut traumhafter Strandurlaub mit viel Abwechslung, hervorragender Betreuung in einem gemütlichen Haus mit schöner privater Atmosphäre. Wunderbar die fußläufigen Einkaufsmöglichkeiten wie Supermarkt und Luxusmall Limegrove, nette Restaurants und Bars.

Das Haus ist gepflegt und sauber. Die Köchin bereitet sehr schmackhafte Gerichte nach eigenen Wünschen.

Negativ war der durch eine Trockenheit angegriffene Rasen im Garten.

Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ist super.
