A little pricey for being a long way from lake
House was good lots of room and a big yard
A Few Issues
Arrived with all water turned off to the house. Contacted owner and was able to turn water on. No hot water - unable to speak with owner so google to the rescue. House was nice and game room with pool table was a big hit. Dirty and dusty inside the home and outside on the deck. Oven and BBQ required thorough cleaning prior to use. Overall nice location (quiet neighborhood) and easy access to surrounding area.
This was a last min reservation, and the client was aware of that. Our manager had a personal issue, and did not make it out to the property to turn the water on before the guests arrived, but I responded to the issue within 10 min, and provided instructions on how to access the main water valve, and turn up the hot water heater (the instructions are printed on the heater). If your read our previous reviews, usually our guests rave about how clean the property is, so I'm not sure why it would be any different for these guests. We self-clean the oven once a month, there could have been some drips on the bottom of the oven, but how that would affect the use of the oven? Same thing for the BBQ, you heat it up, use the bbq brush to clean the off the grill and BBQ as normal?? In my years of being a property owner/landlord I have learned that when we get a review that is out of the norm, the issue is usually related to money, and not the property. These guests requested a refund because of these issues...AFTER the fact. They contacted me regarding the water issue when they arrived, it was resolved quickly, and I did not hear from them again during their stay. After their stay they requested a refund, and I refused...hence the 3 star review.
Gorgeous house in Invermere/Windermere area
We stayed here in mid-July 2018, as part of a family gathering and stop over for the Spartan Beast in Kimberley. Great house, lots of rooms. Little hiccup with housekeeping upon our arrival, but the owner promptly rectified the situation. We were happy to find this house on short notice, considering VRBO left us hanging on our original booking in Kimberley - booked around Jan/Feb, but then refunded us less than a month from the gathering/even since owner sold the place. Funny how we're unable to receive full refund if we were the one's to cancel within a month..
Wow what a view!
Our family had a great time in the mountains!
Tons of space, big yard, beautiful decks and close to all amenities (No Frill and Tim Horton’s)
Definitely will be booking again!
It was just okay. Improvements could be made.
No problems with the booking or the owner as all of that went fairly smoothly. Great location as it was close to all the golf courses we golfed. Some people complained about the highway noise but we did not think this was an issue at all. Even when we sat by the fire pit we could not hear the highway noise. Fire pit is massive. Lots of parking in the front. Some points that we did not like were 1.we had to bring all our own toiletries. 2. we were instructed to clean virtually everything even though we were charged a cleaning fee. 3. No soaps of shampoo provided. 4. we could not find toilet paper or paper towels anywhere so we had to buy our own. Basically had 'some' toilet paper available from the previous renter for a group of 10 guys. 5. Extra charge for having more people stay at the house. I assume this is the case for all these big homes so not a knock on this particular property but quite annoying when its advertised for sleeping 16 people BUT you have to pay extra per person to get you to the 16 people. 6. Strict rules on not using the firewood or we forfeit our deposit. Is this really a big cost? Would be a nice touch to just include this based on what we paid and all the wood that was available. Overall price we could have stayed at a decent hotel/resort in the area for almost the same price. We definitely did not get anything extra for the price. So be warned, bring all your own toiletries and don't forget toilet paper!!
We do supply toilet paper, paper towel and hand soap in the washrooms and kitchen. The house is fully stocked. I provide all renters with my private cell number and let them know that they can contact me 24 hrs a day. Our cleaning staff probably overlooked restocking the toiletries on this occasion, but we did not receive one call from these renters, had they contacted us, we would have fixed the issue immediately.
We do not require our guests to clean the cabin, all we ask is for our guests to strip the linens, load the dishwasher before they leave, and take the trash & recycling out to the bin.
Yes, we do not supply personal items like shampoo, conditioner and body wash, but we let our guest know before arrival, so that they can bring their personal items with them.
We do not supply fire wood either, its just too costly to buy, store and keep dry, but again, we inform our guests ahead of time that firewood is readily available at several locations close to the property.
Lastly, we are the number one rental in Windermere, and we have consistently maintained a 5 star rating. Our rates are based on ten guests, but we can sleep up to sixteen, so yes we charge for the number of quests. Our rates are competitive for the area, and we are booked solid from May through till the end of Sept, each summer season. We specialize in large groups because of the design of the property, and you get what you pay for. When you divide the rate by 16 guests, we feel it is a great bargain. A two bed hotel room in the area runs $250-$300 per night, that really adds up when you have 16 guests. Please read or other reviews to get a true picture of the property and its benefits.
The Good, Bad and Ugly! The good nice house. The bad by highway no fence. The ugly not clean
Before booking our 5 night stay at this cabin, we did our research and we were very impressed by all of the great reviews about this property. Needless to say we were not prepared for the issues that we encountered while on vacation and all 7 adults and 3 kids were extremely disappointed during our stay at the cabin. It needs to be noted that the pictures on the website have not been updated in quite some time and the property has not been well maintained since it first went on the market. Among the many issues that we faced, there are a couple main ones that I would like to address.
Cleanliness: Upon arrival at the cabin, there were footprints throughout the main floor. As we walked throughout the rest of the house we realized it was not very clean at all. Surfaces had been wiped and spot cleaning had been done on the floors, but many things were missed. In fact, the tub needed cleaning before giving our kids a bath. Also all shower stalls needed cleaning The deck was unusable due to dust and pine needles.Windows were filthy and there were screens missing on several windows. The furniture had not been vacuumed and neither had the carpet downstairs as we found a liquid gel pill on the floor of the kids bedroom. Before leaving we checked under beds and found garbage. I feel that it also needs to be noted that when you leave the property you are clearly instructed to strip the sheets off the bed, but NOT the duvet covers or mattress covers, So when are they washed! There were not enough garbage bags, paper towels and toilet paper.
This is not a kid friendly house! Directly behind the fire pit is a steep embankment to highway 93/95. There is no barrier of any kind. As well lots of highway noise. The stairs going into the basement are unsafe; as there is no outside railing on the bottom half of the stairs and instead there is a 5 foot drop off the edge. The baby gate was easily opened by a 2 year old. The basement is heated by a gas fireplace. This gas fireplace is about 5 feet away from all of the kids toys and it is always hot!! The swing set in the back yard looks very different from the picture on the website. The baby swing was broke and the glider was bent making them unusable. The play house was filthy inside and has absolutely nothing in it for kids to play with, except for a plastic kids desk and 3 DEAD BIRDS!
I would not recommend this property. Especially to families with young kids.
We own and manage VRBO properties in Canada, the US and Mexico, and one thing that is consistent with some guests is that if they cause damage to our property, and we do not refund their damage deposit, then they want to write a bad review as revenge of some sort.
These guests placed our ping pong table in an unsafe area while using the pool table, and the ping pong table fell over, and one of the pieces snapped in half. The new ping pong table cost over $500, and I only charged the guests $300 for the damage, which I thought was more than fair. Keep in mind, the guest had no complaints about the property, until they caused the damage.
We are not always 100%, but we are the number one rental in Windermere, and we consistently achieve a 5 out of 5 star rating, so it is obvious to me that when a guest gives us a 2 star rating that he has an axe to grind.
The property sits way up high, above the hi-way, and the height acts as a bearier for sound, we have never had a sound complaint before. We have a half acre lot, tons of room for kids to play, true it is not fenced, but the community does not allow fencing as we want to keep the natural look of the landscape, and again, no one has complained before.
Guests constantly rave about the cleanliness of the cabin, could our cleaners have vacuumed under the beds, yes, and it was remedied for the next guests, we appreciate the heads up.
The playhouse at the back of the property provides hours of enjoyment for the little ones, there was a missing vent cover, so that must be how the birds got in there, but things happen on occasion that are out of our control.
This particular guest informed me that he works for occupational health, so he wanted to pick apart every aspect of the property from a safety point of view. We have never had one injury on the property.
The current pictures of the property were taken last summer, and are up to date.
Enough said...please look at ALL of our reviews and decide for yourself, this is an amazing property, and the majority of our guests come back year after year!!!
