Rob & Cat Preston
About Rob & Cat Preston
We bought the house as a primary residence in 1989 and renovated and added on throughout the years. When moving to Washington State in 2006 we were not ready to sell our house and decided to turn it into a vacation rental so that we could continue updating it and give others a chance to enjoy it as well. Our ties to Marquette remain strong and we love visiting with friends and family as often as we can. It's hard to leave and it's great to come back! As we enter into the ninth year of sharing our home with wonderful folks, we are happy to know that people are returning to celebrate weddings, reunions, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more. Keep enjoying the house and the Marquette area! We have now returned to the Midwest (Wisconsin) and are so happy to be back and closer to friends, family and our house! We hope you continue to enjoy Cliffs Ridge as we do.

Why Rob & Cat Preston chose Marquette
The Marquette area offers an enormous range of activities, indoor and out. Boating, fishing, biking, hiking, skiing, great restaurants and shopping— the possibilities are absolutely endless. It is a welcoming and warm community with the added benefit of magnificent Lake Superior which in itself can entertain the entire family. Cliffs Ridge's central location allows you to be anywhere in the area in minutes -- the best of all worlds. Marquette is central to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (Munising, 40 miles east) and Big Bay, (20 minutes north and home of the historic 'Anatomy of a Murder' location. Houghton/Hancock (home of Michigan Technological University) is about two hours north along with Copper Harbor and Isle Royale. Day trip possibilities abound from Cliffs Ridge!
What makes this House unique
We love to have friends over to enjoy the 2nd-story deck, the wood-burning fireplace and gathering table in the dining area — when you sit at that table you feel as though you are living in a tree house! There is also a wonderful new fire pit in the backyard. This fall we took down more than nine trees and enlarged the back area including RV parking and entertainment area, including new lawn. The highway in front can be a little noisy during the day; traffic slows down at night. We are focusing the outdoor living area toward the back of the house for this reason. Nothing compares to fresh Lake Superior trout or whitefish on the grill—get it from Thill's Fish House and you are guaranteed that it is fresh and wonderful!

Everything was perfect!! Great location, fantastic fire pit , everything you needed was there. The owners were quick to answer questions.
So glad you enjoyed your visit! Thank you for choosing Cliffs Ridge for your Marquette stay.
The house had enough room for my family, the number of bedrooms and bathrooms were great. We enjoyed the kitchen, dining room and sitting area all being open. Thank you!

Mountain Biking Mecca
We came in to town for the Ore to the Shore race and found this wonderful piece of property. It was located near one of the trailheads for mountain biking, it was 8 miles from town. The accommodations were just as described. We enjoyed drinks by the fire in the evening and spent time on both the upper and lower decks. Both decks have BBQ's on the which make it easy for a large group or if you are hanging out in the backyard or staying indoors and using the upper deck.
Glad you enjoyed the house, Tania! Note: the house is actually 8/10 of a mile outside the city limits, not eight miles. It's five minutes to virtually anywhere and on the back of Marquette Mountain Ski Hill. Thanks for choosing Cliffs Ridge!
awesome home away from home
this place was amazing. very clean, very close to town and very comfortable. the dogs loved the fenced in yard. it was very well stocked with everything we needed. we will definetly stay here again.
Great base for family vacation in Marquette area
Cliff's Ridge is nestled in a grove of trees next to one of the main roads into Marquette. It's just a short drive to area attractions and downtown Marquette and about an hour to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. My wife and I, two grown sons, and daughter-in-law, enjoyed the ample space, dining room table for meals and playing games, and outdoor fire pit in particular. The traffic noise was the only downside to a nice outdoor deck and sitting area. Cat, the owner, was very responsive to our communications.
The state keeps moving the highway closer in our direction, hopefully they are done with that. We have been been shifting the outdoor focus toward the back of the house because of the noise (the large back deck with second grill and bar, and the fire pit for instance).
We still love our house in spite of that, and the good part about the highway is it gets you anywhere in the vicinity in about five minutes.
Thank you for choosing Cliffs Ridge!
Cliff's Ridge, a great place to stay!
Cliff's Ridge is a very clean and spacious home, perfect for a group, and we loved that we could bring our dog. We were all very comfortable here, a great family get together!
The only issue was you can hear the traffic, but other than that, it was a great stay.
Minutes from Lake Superior with miles of gorgeous sand beach; minutes from Marquette with great shopping and restaurants; Northern Michigan University functions; seconds from one of the best ski hills in the Midwest and XC ski trails; M-553 connects to all of the surrounding bike paths and trails; mountain biking and climbing on the dirt road immediately north of the house. This is a great gathering house for bridal functions and family reunions.
