Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Gary--

Our stay was nothing short of spectacular. You have a beautiful home (we all LOVED the glassed wall and cathedral ceilings). The fire warmed up the main space beautifully and efficiently; we appreciated that although your home felt spacious, it was cozy enough that noone was ever out of earshot; the natural light the home allowed for made mornings easy and inviting; the surround sound was indeed amazing and made our movie viewing feel like a theater experience; and the area around the home is quiet and most definitely beautiful (especially after a fresh fall of snow). And the skiing--wow! What a thrill--but that's the last time I go down a slope titled "Surprise"! Surprise indeed it was and our excursion to Schuss made for some hilarious stories at dinner.

Picturesque but somewhat out-of-the-way location; comfortable condo in need of a few improvements

  • 3 of 5

We had a nice stay at the condo but found some aspects of it to be frustrating. First, the good: the condo is comfortable and quiet, with very nice shared living space, a gorgeous deck with a great view of trees and a horse barn, and was a relaxing place to return to each evening. However, we were disappointed with the lack of a few basic amenities and conveniences that would have made our stay a lot better. First, there is no dishwasher (and, bafflingly, no drying rack!). With four adults and two toddlers, dishes became a dreaded task each day. The kitchen was also poorly appointed. For example, there was only one, huge bowl, and only four small steak knives (no knife for chopping). Since the condo is a bit out of the way, I would imagine most guests would want to do a good amount of cooking there, so it was strange that the kitchen was missing such basics as a knife. There was also no wifi, which was frustrating since half of us were from out of the country and thus had no access to internet for the entire week. Finally, the house had some odd features. The ground floor bathroom door did not shut properly and would swing open at inopportune times (there was no lock). That same bathroom had a toilet that was not properly installed. The bedroom with bunk beds also had a door that did not shut. These seem like little fixes that should have been taken care of before guests showed up. Location wise, the condo is out of the way. It's a short drive to downtown Bellaire, but a good 20-30 minute drive to any public beaches, which is what we were interested in. The location is nice in that it's quiet and pretty, but it's not super convenient. Although we had a good time, I would not book this property again.

Clean, comfortable and affordable

  • 5 of 5

We needed an affordable place to stay while we were visiting for our sons wedding on Torch Lake. This chalet was the perfect option for our family. Big and beautiful and modern and clean. There were many restaurants and a grocery store close by. Small town feel was in the air when I witnessed a woman writing a personal check at the grocery store and was allowed to write it for $20 over for cash back. I don't see that in Phoenix, AZ ever. The walking trails on the property were beautiful and we looked forward to watching the horses pass by. We were delighted one morning when we saw a hen turkey and 11 babies on the property too. We hope to be back in the future!

Wonderful Skiing Getaway

  • 5 of 5

A Great house with a fantastic view. A perfect getaway for us to go skiing at Shanty Creek over the weekend.

The twisty turney single wide lane make it a little nerve racking to get back to the house even in moderate snow conditions, but once your there, the secluded relaxation really takes over.

When not on the slopes, it's a quick drive into Bellaire itself. Definitely grab a meal and a beer at Shorts!

A Fantastic weekend of Skiing, Euchre, Craft Brews, and Relaxation.

Thanks again Gary for having us, we hope to rent this property again, either next winter or to check out some of the summer scenery.

Awesome Place!

  • 5 of 5

The owner was available to contact personally to help me book this property. The cabin was awesome, well exceeded my expectations. The horse stable next door was really cool. The owner was gracious in my parties noise level and waking up to horses below your deck was a welcomed refresh from city life. The cabin couldn't be better located if you're looking to boat on Torch Lake or the others that are even closer, Clam Lake, etc. and downtown Bellaire is very charming. Bonfire pit, grill, garage, super large deck with awesome views, nice clean bathrooms and kitchen...this place couldn't be better suited for any party - fam, friends, more the merrier.

Stayed for 5 days while we were sailing in a regatta on Torch Lake. Very convenient location both to TLYCC and to Shanty Creek. The house was comfortable and we cooked several meals there rather than having to eat out all the time. I would reiterate what several others have said, you will need 4 wheel drive in the winter. The house had great views from the deck and was furnished comfortability. My only down side would be if you can't deal with hard mattresses, don't choose the back bedroom.
