Air-Conditioned Year-Round Lakeshore Cabin

Bedrooms 4
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Cabin, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Come to beautiful Lake Vermilion and enjoy one of the ten most beautiful lakes in the world! There are over 290 miles of shoreline, mostly glacial rock with stately evergreens, and 365 unique islands on this pristine northern Minnesota lake. In the summer and fall you can explore the lake on our pontoon boat, fishing boat, row boat, or kayaks (or rent a canoe or jet skies). World-class golf is available at 3 courses within 25 miles of the cabin (The Quarry, The Legends, and Wilderness). In the winter months, the lake is perfect for snow shoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling or ice-fishing, and downhill skiing at Giants Ridge is only 30 minutes away.

Our cabin is right next to miles of state park so the bay is quiet and undeveloped; we share it with loons and hummingbirds. The cabin sits on a rise overlooking Big Bay and Ely Island. The vista looking east takes in several smaller islands. McKinley Park, with its sandy beach, boat launch, and playground, is less than a mile down the road. The popular Northwood's town of Ely is just 20 minutes away. This cabin is perfectly situated for a quiet romantic getaway, a family retreat, or a weekend with friends.

The cabin was built in the 1950s and was remodeled 12 years ago; air conditioning was installed in 2015. The kitchen is new and the main living area is vaulted to provide a more panoramic view of the lake. There is a deck attached to the cabin which overlooks the lake, and a larger deck sitting right over the water. We have a wood-burning fireplace in the main living area and a gas fireplace in the walkout level, as well as a fire pit outside. There is a beautiful spot for a hammock and a side yard perfect for yard games.

About Tamra Nelson

We bought this cabin in 2000 and just love it! Over the years, we have had family reunions, quiet getaways, and weekends with friends. The cabin is perfect for everyone. One of our daughters prefers to swim off the dock, run on the trials, kayak, ride the pontoon and camp. Our other daughter loves to read so she settles on the couch by the fireplace or on the deck with her book. Our grandson loves to feed the deer, the ducks and the birds, take boat rides, and go to McKinley Park. By early evening, we all sit on the deck for appetizers, drinks and stories before dinner. By the end of the day, we quiet down with Scrabble, card games or a good book.

Winter Snowmobiling

  • 5 of 5

The group of seven from southern MN enjoyed the house and its close location to the snowmobile trail being out the back door on the lake. The accommodations were excellent, but the garage was VERY nice as we could put the snowmobiles inside and not worry about them!! We snowmobiled over 665 miles in 5 days riding. Was nice to have Tower close by to eat out or pickup supplies. Beds were very comfortable.

Tamra was EXCELLENT to work with at the last minute planning.

We will be BACK!

Perfect for Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

The location at the end of a point allows for a sweeping view of islands and the sunset. Total immersion in nature with Tower five minutes away. With ample room, this cabin accommodated seven of us ages 23 to 58 perfectly. Bedrooms are situated so early risers do not disturb late sleepers. The kayaks were immediately in the water on arrival. The little fishing boat was perfect for my adult children to take out around the islands and nearby bays where they caught walleye, northerns, and bass. We saw eagles and loons right from the dock with a bench that is perfect for coffee in the morning. The deck over the water is a unique feature that was used as a gathering point to string fishing poles, sketch art, enjoy happy hour and sunset dinners. The kitchen was well appointed. My artist son from NY appreciated the photographs, paintings, and ceramic pieces. We made a backyard fire and s'mores almost every night. Original plans to tour the north shore, Soudan Mine, camp on an island and golf all went undone as everyone was pleasantly content and busy enjoying "cabin life" together. Owner was a pleasure to work with. We hope to be back again!

Everything Expected and More

  • 5 of 5

A couple guys and myself rented this cabin for our annual golf trip. I realized after the trip was over that we enjoyed the time fishing, sitting by the camp fire, and relaxing at the cabin more than the golf. The cabin had everything listed and more. The location is amazing. We were very pleased with the 3 golf courses that we went to (all within 45 minutes), the lake was beautiful, had great privacy, yet still had plenty of stores within a half hour. The fishing boat was a great amenity and can spaciously fit four. Owner was very nice and was a pleasure to rent from. I can't state enough about how pleased we were with the whole adventure.

Wonderful retreat on Lake Vermilion

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this cabin. It was our first time ´Up North´and we were absolutely amazed by the beauty of the lake. The location of the cabin is wonderful, it is well maintained, the kitchen well equipped for many guests. We rented the pontoon boat and were positively surprised about the 2nd boat that was offered to us. Not only the kids loved being pulled ... everything was just perfect!

We will definitely do it again in fall or summer.

Owner's Response: The "2nd boat" Birgit refers to is the 14' fishing boat which is included with the rental of the cabin.

Beautiful Location for a Family Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived early, Caretaker had no problems letting us come in early. House is beautiful inside and out. had plenty of room for all 6 of us, with more room if needed for others! Property is very nice and open, beautiful deck overlooking the lake. Spent many hours on that. Pontoon is great to use when not windy and smaller fishing boat does it's job. Slow week of fishing, but we did manage 1 fish fry for dinner with some to take home. During the week you feel like you are up North by yourself. Very quite and peaceful, heard the loons, fed the deer and ducks, so we had visitors all week. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a nice peaceful getaway with a lot of fishing options. Thanks for the beautiful place to stay, we hope to be back one day.

Another fantastic Vermilion experience at the cabin!

  • 5 of 5

After staying at the cabin last November with some dedicated late season Muskie fishermen, I knew I'd be back. This August, I brought my parents from Wisconsin and my brother's family from California. The versatile and comfortable accommodations worked perfectly for 6 kids(4 mos - 8 yrs) and 6 adults. The well appointed kitchen and charcoal grill allowed us to cook our favorite meals. We even enjoyed a couple of sunset dinners on the big deck over looking the lake. The California crew was treated to all the delights of Northern MN- loons, eagles, ospreys, deer, chipmunks, fishing, water skiing, kayaking, and starry nights around the campfire. I would definitely recommend renting the pontoon boat. The pontoon is only a few years old and in excellent shape. It provided a plush, spacious platform for swimming, sunning, and exploring the lake with our large group. On the windy days, we left the pontoon in the boathouse and took the kids to the beach at Mckinley Park. The sandy beach was perfect for our younger children as it remained shallow and rock free for as far out as they ventured. There was also a couple of slides placed in the water that were a big hit! When the kids were tired of swimming, they played games in the big yard, fed the chipmunks, or fished off the dock. None of the children had trouble sleeping at night! We had a vacation we'll never forget!
