About Mark

My wife Melissa and I have always enjoyed the mountains, theres just something about the atmospehere of the Smoky Mountains and especially the the Pigeon Forge area. We live in Orlando Florida, we have 2 children Gregory and Brittany and 2 Grand Daughters Kayden and Rylee

Mark purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Mark chose Tennessee

We had TIPPY TOP built in 2007 in Shagbark, We chose Shagbark because of its Park like setting and the shear beauty of the lot that Tippy Top is built on It's views are spectacular and the cabin is very comfortable from the smallest to the largest groups.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mark

We had such a great time!! Just wanted to let you know what a great maintenance crew you have. We saw the lightening strike yesterday but didn't realize that it damaged the water pump. The maintenance man was so nice and helpful and had it fixed in less than an hour. The cabin is wonderful and we are really enjoying ourselves! Thank you again for letting us stay at the cabin. By the way we saw a bear not 15 feet away from the cabin on our first night! Grandkids said, "Awesome! ". 😊

Tippy Top was wonderful

  • 5 of 5

The amenities at Tippy Top were GREAT!!!!. We have been vacationing in the smoky mountains for years and have stayed in several cabins, and we have finally found our home in the smokies "Tippy Top".

I would never recommend for anyone to rent from this owner

  • 1 of 5

I have rented cabins for the last twenty years and have never experienced what I did with this property. First, when we arrived the person at the front gate only had information for one vehicle and was not going to let us in. I called the owner and he blamed it on the people working the gate. We arrive at the house and it was absolutely disgusting. It had not been cleaned, there was a pile of trash in the kitchen, every bed was dirty, every bathroom filthy, trash everywhere, and even dog mess on the stairs. I called the owner and he preceded to blame the cleaning company. When everyone else is blamed for the problems I tend to believe the person doing the blaming is at fault. The cleaning company arrived at around 4;30 and we got to spend the first six hours of our vacation with them after a ten hour ride with two children. We couldn't use the hot tub until the next day because it has to be drained and cleaned for each new guest. The faucet for the tub on the main level does not work, so you have a jacuzzi tub that you can't use. Lastly, in a house that sleeps almost twenty people, if more than one person tries to use the internet at the same time you both get disconnected. I would recommend finding another house.

Good house for the price

  • 4 of 5

We were celebrating my Dad's 70th birthday with 9 grandkids, 6 adults, and 2 grandparents. We rented the house for labor day weekend. The house was roomy and comfortable. I liked that there were table games and a hot tub. Most rooms have TV's and fans.

The kitchen was a little small, however, we were able to make meals for the whole family. The water pressure in the bathrooms was weak. The main floor bath only had a Jacuzzi tub with a broken shower head. It would have been nice to have more towels, however, there is a washer/dryer to wash towels and clothes. The view from the house is gorgeous! The street the house is located on is very steep! Could be intimidating for those that are afraid of heights.

Out Of Town Owner and You Can Tell

  • 1 of 5

First let me say that while the owner was nice during our communications it was an issue that he was many states away and unavailable at urgent times. There were so many issues that I'm not sure all of them can be addressed in the small space allotted in this review.

1. Issue at check-in where all but one car was rejected at the gate. Couldn't reach the owner for about a half hour so family was sitting in cars on the side of the road outside the community gate.

2. Many things were missing and/or broken. The dishwasher is not bolted to the countertop so when you open it, it tilts forward until it hits the counter. There was a dust pan and no broom... with 12 adults and 3 kids no way we could go a week without sweeping the floors. We bought one at walmart. There was only 2 rolls, including the ones on the holder, of toilet paper in each bathroom. Luckily toilet paper is cheap but that's one more trip to the store (takes about 30 minutes to get there because of traffic!!!). Showers didn't drain and the main floor bathtub faucet squirts water everywhere... there isn't a shower in there so it's also kind of a pain for guests on the main floor (i.e. grandma to go up or downstairs to shower).

3. The deck was coming apart at the seams (literally!) so I'm not sure how safe it will be in the near future.

4. The bees were terrible so you couldn't spend much time on the ground floor patio or in the hot tub.

5. The directions for trash say to put the trash at the curb... yeah the subdivision security said absolutely DO NOT do that because of the bears. We weren't sure how the trash would get taken out and it was completely overflowing by the end of the week. We had trashbags piled inside because there wasn't room in the cans and you can't leave it out.

6. The towels were brand new which was great! So brand new that they still had tags on.. so they hadn't been washed which I would recommend.

7. The internet, though we didn't expect much, was terrible when you have a house full on it... the router is also in the worst place possible (in the basement next to a stone fireplace). Also, the cords and wires in the basement hooked to the router were a complete mess... not child friendly.

8. There is only one small fridge/freezer for a 6 bedroom, 15 person house. Just plan wisely!! There is a mini fridge in the basement but it's... mini.

9. The kitchen is teeny tiny. 1 person at a time.

We had a good time regardless. We will not return or refer to this cabin.

Owner's Response: TIPPY TOP is a great cabin. I AM SADDENED THAT SOMEONE WOULD 1 STAR THIS GORGEOUS CABIN. And treat it as rough as some people do! I AM GOING TO ATTEMPT TO ANSWER SOME OF THIS GUEST COMMENTS WITH THE ACTUAL FACTS, OR THE ACTION THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. 1. As stated when we send the initial information out we must have the vehicle and driver info before arrival so that entering the resort is not an issue. Some guest forget to do that and such it will cause delays at the gate. 2. Maintenance checked the dishwasher and there was a screw that had been removed it was replaced and fine. 3. The house was inspected before check in and the dust pan and broom were there but just to ensure that it is not an issue there are now 2 Dust pans and brooms.4. Toilet paper is provided and extra rolls are under each sink, but normally the 2 rolls with the extras under sink are enough.5. The decks are structurally fine, only needing to be stained does not mean coming apart at the seams... They have been stained in early September 2017.6. Trash- there are 2 steel containers holding 4 40 gallon garbage pails which hold about 4 normal size trash bags each (16) that are on property to provide a safe location for garbage a stay. obviously some guest may have more than the normal amount of trash and we would have had maintenance pick it up if necessary. 7. We try to keep new or newer linens and towels in the cabin I normally would not get complaints on brand new towels I apologize if having new towels and linen was an inconvenience. 8. The Refrigerator in the kitchen is a 28 CU Ft side by side in the kitchen Normally that is fine and big enough for a weekly rental, but we do have brand new 22 Cu. ft. side by side refrigerator in the game room bar area lower level 9. Bee problem- I am not sure on this complaint I have no control over the woods and nature around the cabin. There are no bees nest on home or in yard I had this checked.10. Kitchen- Is a 7’ x 12’ I realize that some people may be have much bigger kitchens in their homes but I do not consider a 7’ x 12’ teeny tiny.11. Satellite internet - Please understand this is the mountains if you are trying to have 15 people using WIFI at the same time you will have issues. The router in the basement has a booster on the main level which helps with connectivity. I feel it is unfair to give a one star for your entire stay. PLEASE LOOK AT THE DOZENS OF POSITIVE 5 STAR REVIEWS.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Tippy Top was a stunning cabin. It was very accommodating, there was plenty of space for my friends and I. The game room was our favorite, especially the classic joystick game. It was perfect! The view was beautiful, from both the master bed and the deck outside. There are also plenty of places to visit near by, so there is a lot to do. Mark was very hospitable, making sure we were situated and had everything we needed. It was the perfect getaway from the city and I'm definitely looking forward to coming back soon!

Didn't find it Worth The Money

  • 3 of 5

We booked this trip 4 months in advance we were lucky that Mark still had our week open, most of the other Cabins were fully booked. Mark was very understanding when my Credit card was declined due to the credit card company not recognizing the charge.

On July 11th I send in our Drivers and Car information that way we would be able to get our parking passes. 2 Days before our Trip Mark emailed me to ask if I could please send him our information ... that I already sent. No big deal, we sent it again. When we arrive to the main gate of the Cabin the guard tells me that my car is the ONLY car allowed through, the owner had not sent in any other information. We called right away and with 20 minutes it was taken care of.

The cabin from the outside was very nice upon first impression. The door was easy to unlock. If you are taking multiple cars it is a little tricky trying to park them all. We had 6 cars and someone always had to move out of the way when we needed to leave.

The Cabin was DIRTY. Not "oh this is normal dirty no big deal" but REALLY dirty. We couldn't use the ceiling fans because there was dirt caked on them. The air filters looked to have been replaced over a year ago. My father has COPD and uses oxygen at all times, the dirty air was actually making him sick. Under the beds and couches there was visible inches of dust. The deck outside was chipping paint and one of the little ones got splitters in the bottom of his feet. Around 50% of the light bulbs in the cabin were blown. This is no joke most of the lights had only 1 working bulb. The downstairs bathroom only had tub, not a big deal, but the handheld water faucet didn't work. When we turned the jets on old moldy water came out.

We contacted Mark within the first few hours to tell him about the cabin, we even sent pictures. He told me the cleaning crew would be in the same day to get stuff together for me. That was Monday. On Tuesday the cleaning people themselves called me to let me know they would make it up there if they could. They were very busy and would try. They never showed up the entire week.

For $3500 I just expected BETTER. I realize that this is a $500,000 cabin and yes the views are breath taking. The rooms were large, the tvs were nice, Game room was great. But honestly motel 6 would have been cleaner.
