Beach Path Bliss

  • 5 of 5

Our group had a great long weekend at the Beach Path cottage. The cottage is in a great location. You are one fine climb away from the lake. The house was the perfect size for 7 adults. Central AC was a plus! We shared many meals on the front porch and laughs in the living room. The owners were super helpful and the cottage was clean when we arrived. I would definitely recommend this place to those looking for along weekend/week long stay at the beach!

Cozy and Comfortable; Wonderful owners

  • 5 of 5

My family spent 4 days in this sweet bungallow. If you are someone who demands mordern and sleek , then this is not the cottage for you. But, if you appreciate and love traditional housing, then you will enjoy this cottage. The hardwood floors and gingerbread trim is reminiscent of early housing and this cottage has to be one of the original buildings at the beach... so, a definite "beach" feel to it! The sand dune is large that you cross to get to the lake, but not unbearable or impossible to navigate. When my husband forgot something rather important, Donna and Brian responded quickly and helped develop a plan to retrieve it. This was a good choice for our family and we would rent again---if the owners would agree to have us! 😊😊

Great weekend

  • 5 of 5

There was a slight hiccup at the start but the owner went above and beyond to correct it. The house is in a perfect location. It was a wonderful weekend. I highly recommend staying here.

Not my first choice

  • 2 of 5

This property I would rate as just ok. If you are coming with kids, this is a good place because there is nothing they can break or damage. But be forewarned, if anyone in your group has allergies to mold and mildew, we do not recommend this home. When we arrived, it had been closed up for quite a while and both of our husbands have mold allergies, so it took the first 8 hours with most of the windows open and the fans running to air it out enough so they could go inside. It was my mistake not to ask about the mold issue. There is no central air, just window air conditioners. We felt the photos are a bit deceitful as this cottage is older and more worn down than we realized. It was built in the 1930s and that is evident by the lack of upkeep especially on the outside. The inside has plenty of bed space and an adequate kitchen, but all of the furnishings are very dated. The linens and towels are worn so I suggest you bring your own and all of the mattress pads are stained from previous tenants. There were also many stains on the bedspreads, so bring your own bedding unless these issues don't bother you. They advertise an outdoor grill but it was so dirty from previous tenants, it was not usable. We also were required to do quite a bit of the cleaning at the end of our stay, which we did, but we didn't have time to clean the cobwebs off the walls, ceilings and behind the doors. We repaired the coffee pot which was not usable and we also repaired one of the toilets which was not usable until we plunged up a plastic toy from a previous tenant. We went the extra mile in our assigned cleaning duties and swept under the beds, finding old socks, toys, food wrappers etc left by previous tenants. This is the first VRBO rental that we have used that required this much cleaning, trash removal and bed stripping as they do, so hopefully the renters who come after us will appreciate that.

Please note that this cottage is off the street, and faces the public access path to the lake so depending on the time of year, expect to have people walking in front of the cottage to and from the beach.

The beach and the water were the BEST part of our stay; it is a bit of a walk up and down the dune to get there but well worth it. By the way, we did let the owners know about the issues I have discussed here but they did not respond. They probably guessed we will not return.

Owner's Response: Cottage Snopes Fact Checker responds: Tough to respond to a review like this. Nothing we could say will redeem us in the eyes of this guest, and any response we offer appears as ‘sour grapes’. Nonetheless, after 7 years of rental with no similar reviews, our family felt it was important to respond. Nothing to could damage the reputation of a rental more than this assessment provided by this guest. We were concerned and so, hired Mold Solutions, Inc., to inspect the house. There is certifiably, (as those of us in our family with mold allergies would have guessed), no mold. The official report is available upon request. There is central air. The sheets, linens, spreads are new, save 1. We did expect this client to leave the cottage as they found it. Clean. We also asked the client to let us know if they had any questions or problems encountered so that we could fix them. Three phone numbers were supplied with instructions to call for any reason. Worth noting: - It is most interesting that we felt we went beyond ‘the call of duty’ with this guest. They requested early check-in and late stay. We honored both requests with no additional fees – wanting them to enjoy their stay. They did not contact us with any of these complaints. The first we learned of the issues was when, we, like you, read them, - regrettably, here on our site where we advertise. Additional reviews given, before we joined VRBO, happily available upon request.

Fun Place in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

This house was a great place for a quick weekend getaway with friends. Despite the lake being frozen over, we had a great time. This would be a great summer vacation house. The lake is a two minute walk away. Thanks to Donna for being quick to respond to our questions and helping us get this set up.
