Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible beds, 3.5 Baths (Sleeps 8-10)

Perched on top a mountain on twelve private acres is this one of a kind, architect and designer-crafted, custom built, contemporary home. Arguably the newest and best luxury home on the rental market in Ulster County!

Made for entertaining in style, this private paradise is located off of a private road in an exclusive area of Woodstock/Hurley that abuts the Ashokan Reservoir. At least seven peaks (at the last count!) are visible from all rooms of the house, and the mountain range views are even more dramatic from the massive floating cedar deck.

The house was constructed by master craftsmen, and no expense has been spared on top of the line cabinetry and fixtures. Designer touches are visible throughout...exposed ceiling beams, Brazilian cherry wide-plank floors, Grohe fixtures, limestone tile in bathrooms, Asian inspired above counter bathroom sink bowls, designer lighting, custom staircases, exquisite glass and wood work detail. The custom designed bathroom vanities were built by a craftsman that even Robert Wilson calls upon for his impeccable woodworking!

The magnificent living area leads out onto a beautiful deck with incredible mountain views. It has stunning cherry floors, a huge wood burning fire, a serious music system with Smartphone hook up. The open concept format seamlessly integrates the kitchen, dining and living areas together.

The top floor was designed as a 'Master Suite' and features a magnificent loft with colossal ceiling-height and spectacular mountain views; a custom glass, stainless and wood loft surround. The loft houses the media area with a 55' flat screen TV, Denon sound system & DVD player.

A gallery hallway leads to the massive Master bedroom with cathedral ceilings and the beautifully appointed, Italian limestone master bath which features a custom built double walnut vanity, huge shower with rain head and separate hand held shower, plus a 6 ft soaking tub.

The four bedrooms are all generously sized and offer magnificent views. There are three full and one half baths, each custom appointed. All bathrooms include glass, limestone, and/or slate tiling, custom glass work and Grohe fixtures. Each one is uniquely designed and all beautiful.

The gourmet kitchen features high end, stainless steel appliances, a gas stove, plenty of cooking utensils, cabinets specifically imported from Italy, and a beautiful Shivakashi-granite countertop.

The garden level features another full custom finished bath, a queen bedroom, polished concrete floors, high ceilings, RADIANT floor heating, a massive wood burning fireplace and fantastic open areas for entertaining.

The surrounding area offers incredible variety and natural beauty. This is a year round destination: swimming holes abound in the summer, foliage in the fall is incredible, New York's best ski hills in the winter, and the spring is simply magical. There are world class spas and restaurants, and fun shopping in the quirky town of Woodstock, America's most famous small town and birth place of the musical revolution of 1969.

Keywords: Luxury Home, retreat, mountain vacation, swimming, fishing, golf, hiking, spectacular views, privacy on 12 acres, minutes to town.

About Christine Barker

I live in New York but grew up in Canada and Bermuda, two wildly different climates! When it comes to property I tend to prefer the extremes....extreme country, or extreme city, and that's one of the things I love about Woodstock. It's less than two hours from New York City, but it's a million miles away with respect to it's ambiance, culture and attitude. Woodstock is a fabulous combination of getting away from it all while still having plenty to do.

Why Christine Barker chose Catskills

While the eastern side of the Hudson River valley tends toward rolling topography historically suitable for farmland, thanks to the Catskill mountain range, on our side we enjoy skiing, hiking, rock climbing and delicious mountain views. The unique village of Woodstock retains the same quirkiness that attracted the likes of Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin and ultimately the infamous Woodstock music festival, garnering it the title of the 'most famous small town in America'. The pristine beauty of the surroundings inevitably grew an avid following from New York City, so a sophisticated but casual community has evolved. The Town of Woodstock proudly bears the title 'colony of the arts'. There are music concerts, theatre, art galleries, and film festivals along with farm festivals. This really is a year round destination: the summer is lush and beautiful, and people of all ages enjoy the many streams and swimming holes, there is a beautiful golf course golf in Woodstock, a tennis center in Saugerties (15 minutes away), as well as hiking and rock climbing. The fall is absolutely spectacular, the foliage can be outrageous, the air cool and refreshing. When winter hits, there's downhill and cross country skiing, snow shoeing....or just relaxing in front of the fire and taking in the beautiful snowy views isn't too bad either. The fresh air and beautiful light that spring brings is absolutely invigorating.

What makes this house unique

This is arguably one of the nicest rentals in Ulster county. It's private, beautiful, peaceful, brand new...and the mountain views are spectacular. It's on 12 acres and at the top of a mountain, but only a five minute drive to the village of Woodstock.

The house is very spacious but also intimate. The bedrooms are large and private, the bathrooms tastefully tiled in limestone and glass with custom fixtures, and the kitchen comfortably outfitted. The house is tastefully furnished, and even with a large group there is enough space to have quiet time if you so wish.

The perfect mountain retreat

We loved our stay - spacious and beautifully appointed with amazing views of the mountains. And only a short drive to downtown. Just what we were looking for!

Spacious house with open design and breathtaking views

  • 5 of 5

Our experience with this house, from the time of booking to our departure, was outstanding. The house is just as seen in the photos, with quality furnishings, simple and clean décor, and lots of open space. You get a great view of the mountains from practically every room in the house (and there are plenty of windows)! It was very easy to settle in and feel right at home quickly. the fact that the house was so clean was a huge plus! We were two adults and two young kids, so obviously didn't utilize all the space/rooms, but were still able to enjoy all aspects of the house, including the pool table on the ground floor. There is a flat front lawn, which was great for the kids to play on, but the wooded and sloped back yard was also fun for the kids to explore. Given the house is situated higher up in the mountain, it is nicely secluded and peaceful. Much like other guests who have stayed here, we are very much looking forward to returning one day.

Refreshed and Recharged by Splendorous Woodstock Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this beautiful property, which is nestled away in the Catskill Mountains. We wanted to book a stay to catch up with some old friends and to treat ourselves to a small respite from our busy city lifestyle. We accomplished both far beyond our expectations.

Immediately upon our arrival, we felt a sense of calm. The façade is inviting, and the surrounding mountainous area, serene. When we entered the expansive house, we were filled with a childlike sense of wonder, as we explored each room and its unique charms. You can tell the house was decorated with great thought to style and form, but all the pieces feel as if they were “born” there. It just works.

The communal open floor plan of the kitchen, living and dining areas (and the rest of the house as well) lends itself to a very relaxing, open atmosphere, where we spent quality time with our dear friends whom we had not seen in several years. The house was so spacious that we didn’t even have to see the other couples if we didn’t want to. (We did, of course!) You know when you rent a vacation home with friends, and ultimately the ones who arrived first get the best room? No worries here! Every bedroom and bathroom makes you feel as if you were the first to arrive. Everything from the stunning hardwood floors, to the modern furnishings, to the inviting beds and linens, was just perfect. Even my partner slept really well on the bed in our room (and this is not any easy task, I assure you). Our friends were similarly well-rested, which made for a happy group! :)

The wonderful amenities really set this house apart from the many we considered. We also spent much of our time on the spacious deck off the living room, which allowed us to drink in the awe-inspiring mountain views and reconnect with nature and each other.

The worst part of our stay was - leaving! It really was tough pulling out of the driveway and heading back to the city after our experience here. We have already been discussing potential return dates, and are hoping that our weekend together in this beautiful home was the beginning of a spectacular tradition….

A lovely, sophisticated mountain respite for urbanites

  • 5 of 5

This beautifully- and thoughtfully-appointed house offered the perfect balance of private and common space for four couples braving "the country" for a weekend together. Susanna had every detail meticulously covered; we needed to bring only our personal items and liquor! On that topic, the deck is the perfect place to take in the spectacular view over one's coffee or something less bracing later in the day. The Buddha in the master bedroom rendered the experience all the more like that of a retreat. And, it is only a short drive (or bike ride) from all that Woodstock has to offer. Our friends have asked repeatedly when we can go again.

Great views, amazing home

  • 5 of 5

We we looking for a home to celebrate a family birthday, and asked Christine to accommodate us at the house for just one day. She was great about our last minute request! We had a wonderful time there. The house has everything for a pleasant and relaxing stay, a well-equipped kitchen, and beautiful design inside and outside. We enjoyed the master suite with a large Budda painting, and lots of natural light in every room. We will absolutely be back for much longer. thank you!

Beautiful house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this lovely home for our annual spring girls weekend. The house is pefect in every respect. Clean, well stocked (great pans, appliances etc.), great lay out to allow for common gathering areas, as well as offer privacy! We really enjoyed the kitchen, as well as the stunning view from the deck! In a great location, close to town, so if you forget something, you are a quick drive away, even though it feels like you are miles from anywhere!

The rental process was super easy, Susanna made it seamless. I hope to rent this fabulous home again in the future.
