Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday condo in Grand Cayman - The Retreat #16

1 Bedroom + 1 Bath - (Sleeps 2-4)

Kick back “island-style” in a luxurious setting!!! Leave the crowds behind on Seven Mile Beach. The Retreat is located at Rum Point, in the heart of the Cayman Kai area, on the north side of the island. There are only 23 units on our seven acres of beachfront property with 1,300 feet of white sandy beach. An easy 35 minutes by car from the airport, George Town, great shopping, and many delectable restaurants. This is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the Caribbean in all its natural beauty.

This is truly the most beautiful beach on Grand Cayman! The sand is a gorgeous white with a hint of pink. The water is turquoise blue and absolutely crystal clear. The water is very shallow hundreds of feet offshore, perfect for the kids. The beach has lots of vegetation, shade trees, and wildlife, making it a nature lover’s paradise. The waters are part of a nationally protected marine park. So, you will find lots of fish and coral right out your back door.

In addition to our stunning beach, the Retreat offers many great amenities including a newly resurfaced tennis court, a new game room, new work out facility and attractively landscaped pool. All of these amenities are available for your enjoyment at no cost during your stay.

Right next door to the Retreat is the Rum Point Club, which has a nice gift shop, is the very popular Wreck Bar and Grill, a great fine dining restaurant, and a Red Sail Sports rental and activity center. The food at Rum Point is outstanding, the drinks may be even better, and the friendly service can’t be beat. At Red Sail Sports, you can plan snorkeling, diving and Stingray City excursions. If you want to play on the beach, you can rent all kinds of beach toys including snorkeling gear, wave runners, sailboats, kayaks, and more!

Our condominium is a large one bedroom, one bathroom unit, with more than 1,000 square feet of living space. We have a great view of the beach from the living room and the screened lanai. The unit is on the third floor, which almost always provides for a nice breeze if you want to open up the screened windows and let the ocean air flow through. Our unit is ideally situated for a couple or young family. The large bedroom features a king sized bed.

The living room has a queen-size pullout couch. An additional pullout bed is available upon request. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher and disposal. Our unit also has a washer and dryer, so feel free to pack light.

To keep you entertained in the evenings, we have cable television, a DVD player with a selection of movies, a stereo with a variety of CD’s, video games, board games, puzzles, and cards. A small library of novels is available for your enjoyment. Email your family and friends from your laptop. We have high-speed wireless internet and a color printer for your use free of charge. Local telephone calls are also free of charge. International calls can be made using your calling card or any major credit card.

From our condominium, you will walk out your door onto one of the Caribbean's most amazing beaches. If you stay on the Lagoon, you will find yourself driving to our beach. You may be able to find a place at the Kaibo that is a little bit cheaper. But, you will find our condominium to be the best value on the treasured ocean side at Rum Point.

The Retreat and our unit have been inspected and approved by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. So, rest assured that our amenities are up to the finest of standards. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our condominium or the island. So, please don't hesitate to ask. We hope to have the opportunity to share our pristine home away from home with you…

About Adela Parlette

My husband and I have been married for 19 years. We have 2 boys, ages 11 and 15. We live in Houston, Texas. We enjoy getting away to our condo at Rum Point as frequently as we can. Our kids enjoy telling their friends that in Grand Cayman their back yard is a beach and their front yard is a pool and tennis court! We enjoy having friends and family visit so that we can show off our home away from home. We would love to share our island home with you while we are back in Houston, putting in time in the 'real world.'

Adela Parlette purchased this condo in 2007

Why Adela Parlette chose Grand Cayman

My husband and I have talked about buying a property in the Caribbean since our honeymoon. Everytime we would go on vacation to an island, that conversation would come back up. But, we never pulled the trigger. Back in July of 2007, my in-laws watched the kids for a week while my husband and I went on our first vacation by ourselves since the kids were born. We went to Grand Cayman and stayed on 7 Mile Beach. The beaches were stunning and the island was absolutely paradise. Beatiful views...warm water...laid-back island atmosphere. Around the middle of the week, we decided to rent a car and drive over to Rum Point, which we had read about online. Now, I grew up in the Caribbean and we have traveled pretty extensively to various island destinations. I have seen my share of stunningly beautiful beaches. But, let me tell you...when we got out of the car and walked around the corner of the gift shop and saw the beach at Rum Point, we were absolutely awestruck by the beauty. We had a drink at the Wreck Bar and decided to walk out to the water. The water was perfectly calm and clear as a looking glass. We were able to walk out a couple hundred feet from the shore and the water was only waist high! We began to talk about how this would be such a perfect place to come with the kids. Shallow, calm water. Nice quiet, family atmosphere. Just about then we noticed a couple of really nice looking buildings right next door on the same beach. We wandered next door, found out there was a one bedroom condo for sale, and the rest is history.

A Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation at The Retreat at Rum Point! The accommodations couldn't be better and was exactly as stated. A very clean condo with a very nice ocean view. It was extremely relaxing for my husband and me. I would love to visit during New England's winter but I work in a tax office and April 15th couldn't come soon enough. I was in need of total relaxation and that was what I got!! A private beach. A quiet sail to stingray sandbar to swim with the stingrays. Many sunset dinners right there at Rum Point Restaurant and/or Kaibo Restaurant. A leisurely drive or two around the island. But the best, was just staying on the beach of The Retreat at Rum Point. We snorkeled every day while on Cayman Island, both right at Rum Point and on Seven Mile Beach. We also visited the Botanical Garden and Starfish Point (awesome).

Thank you Adela, for the information packet. It was very informative! We only had one thing that was a little unexpected. We rented a car but did not verify whether or not our personal car insurance covered our international car rental so we had to pay extra for insurance, which ended up being true, our insurance did not cover Cayman Island so it was good that we paid the insurance.

We had an awesome time!! We would highly recommend The Retreat at Rum Point.

Owner's Response: Dear Kathryn and Art, Thank you for your wonderful review. The months of preparation really helped in getting you ready for a terrific vacation. There is so much to do and every view is breathtaking in Grand Cayman (planning is crucial)! I hope you come back soon to visit the Old Man Bay caves, Smith's Cove, the marine park in George Town, East End blow holes, Rum Point bioluminiscent bay and more snorkeling sites! Don't forget those amazing drinks at the Wreck Bar, especially the mudslide during a beautiful sunset. I am so glad I was able to be a part of your well deserved getaway! Best regards, Adela

A great find in Grand Cayman

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a tropical vacation that was a direct flight from Dulles so that lead me to Grand Cayman. We wanted to be away from crowds and that lead us to Run Point. We were lucky to find this beautiful condo steps from the beach in a lovely tropical setting.

The condo was spotlessly clean. The linens were fresh and plentiful. The king size bed was perfect to sleep on. Internet was great. TV had plenty of channels. AC worked great but with the ocean breeze we hardly used it. Washer/ dryer clean and worked fine. It was quiet, we did not hear a neighbor.

We never left Rum Point once we got there it was just too perfect to leave. The neighborhood is very walker friendly and it's beautiful as well. We felt safe at all times. We did not eat out much but had our fair share of the famous Mudslides at the Wreck Beach Bar near the condo. We enjoyed having a mix of privacy at the Retreat Beach then hopping over to action, people watching area. We found Rum Point very family friendly and not a big "party" beach as the name would imply.

We did Stingray city right from the dock. The snorkeling off the point is amazing. We went to Kaibo Upstairs restaurant and had

an evening of a lifetime.

The owner was kind and professional, she gave us a late check out that was very much appreciated.

I can't imagine being anywhere more perfect and I can't think of one thing negative to say about this rental!

Owner's Response: AWWW!!! What a flattering review. It makes me want to go back to Sweet Sixteen and Rum Point. I heard there were teenagers parasailing and lots of fun action while you were at The Retreat. You were so lucky to get the Caribbean trade winds. It is a very special (rare), refreshing type of wind. Whenever we go, we find it so difficult to leave Rum Point. Why leave? We have the Wreck Bar, the marine park, friendly folks, no traffic, hammocks... It is like you go into the Rum Point Hole and never come out! I hope you come back really soon! Don't forget my beach towel! It wants to lay out on the beach! Best regards and I hope you keep the Cayman memories close to heart! Adela

We loved our time at the Retreat at Rum Point #16!

  • 5 of 5

This was my husband's and my first visit to Grand Cayman and we were not disappointed! The Retreat at Rum Point #16 was a perfect place to stay to truly enjoy the beach. The view from the room was beautiful and access to the beach was easy. The condo was clean, although the kitchen is a little dated, and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the Red Sails Sport's Stingray City and snorkeling tour - and it was so convenient to catch the tour right from the dock located near the Retreat. Adela provided excellent customer service! She sent detailed information about our stay, including practical suggestions for making the most of our time on Grand Cayman. We followed her advice about stopping at a grocery store before arriving at #16, and we were so happy we did! Food is very expensive. We met many friendly people who were staying at the Retreat or nearby. People were quick to invite us to share a lunch, a drink, or an afternoon of snorkeling. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a clean, safe, relaxing place to stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! Yes, Rum Point is full of friendly and happy people. I enjoy so much the impromptu invitations to share a meal, drink, walk or snorkel. I love that you enjoyed staying at our Sweet Sixteen. I love the view from the lanai. I can see the fishing boats, snorkelers and beach goers while I am having my breakfast! The location is amazing so close to Rum Point Beach Club and our own private Retreat Beach. The excursions from the Rum Point Pier are so convenient and fun. I am so glad that my suggestions were helpful and made your trip that more enjoyable. I hope to have you back soon! Best regards, Adela

Fabulous Vacation in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Rum Point was exactly what our family needed. We wanted to stay away from the busy side of the island by 7 Mile beach, so we chose Rum Point. We stayed at the Retreat and had a wonderful time. Steps away from the beach, it was like we had our own aquarium out back in the ocean. We have 7 year old twins and they were able to snorkel and swim in the warm shallow water without any problems. We saw stingrays, tropical fish, starfish and so much more in the ocean right at this beach. Adela, the condo owner was beyond wonderful. She was very quick to respond to all my questions about the unit, what to do, where to eat and who to ask for on the tours. She gave us so much helpful information that she nearly planned our vacation and I didn't have to do much research at all. The unit is on the third floor and had a great breeze and view of the ocean. The pool was perfect for my kids and the complex was clean and well maintained. I would recommend this location to anyone who is looking for a laid back, relaxing vacation. Has great views and easy access to Rum Point if you need to grab some food or drinks or do any type of tours. Also, very close to the Bio Bay - a MUST for anyone who is visiting - as my girls put it, "Its magic ocean fairy dust".

Owner's Response: Hi Teresa and family, It was really fun to help you plan your vacation. I just wished the days would have been longer for you so you could have enjoyed even more! The timing for going to the bioluminescent bay was perfect. The bay had that magical glow that is absolutely stunning and your daughters described very appropriately. Rum Point Beach and The Retreat Beach have the best snorkeling for children. The beach is shallow; boats are not allowed in; the beach reef is home to a great variety of fish; and the rocks under the pier are home to the baby fish. It is so easy to book excursions with Walter in Red Sail Sports. My favorite excursion is the sting ray and reef tour with Captain Warren in the 9 AM glass bottom boat tour. My boys never get tired of going out to see their favorite sting rays "Big Bertha and Frisbee." The baby starfish in the Retreat Beach are seasonal guests and you were able to see them. If you go to Star Fish Point, you will find the adult version. In the morning, during my daily run to Star Fish Point, I have seen the beautiful Cayman parrots perched on the trees. I hope you had a chance to see them. They like to travel in pairs or three at a time. Wishing you all a healthy and happy New Year. I hope your future trips are full of wonder and dust fairy magic and if you have the yearning to come to Rum Point, we will have the light on for you at The Retreat 16!

Our wedding and honeymoon

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at The Retreat #16 was perfect. We got married the day after we arrived and enjoyed the remaining days as a married couple on our honeymoon. The condo is very comfortable and makes you feel at home. Plenty of towels, linens and pillows available. You can cook a nice meal in the kitchen or on the grill, or head next door to the wreck bar and restaurant for lunch and dinner. We enjoyed eating our breakfast on the porch with the view of the beautiful water. Definitely stop at the grocery store on the way to Rum point, and don't forget laundry detergent if you plan on washing anything. We just stocked up on breakfast food, beverages and snacks.

We spent a few days exploring the other side of the island and a few days staying in rum point and Cayman kai. We found it very relaxing on this side of the island but there is still a lot to do and see. We highly recommend the boat trip to see the sting rays, going to Starfish point in Cayman Kai and relaxing on the beautiful beach there, and also making reservations for the BBQ on Monday nights at the Wreck Bar at rum point. The atmosphere is great with live music and the food was very good. Kayaking thru the bay was also amazing and scenic. We have to thank Adela for her wonderful suggestions and for helping to make our trip memorable.

We are already talking about planning another trip back!

NEW YEAR'S AT RUM POINT

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week over the New Year (2015) at The Retreat at Rum Point on Grand Cayman Island. This was our second stay at The Retreat. This time we even stayed longer than the first time and had a fantastic time. We had beautiful, sunny, breezy weather the entire time. The condo is so relaxing. The bedroom is very spacious. We slept extremely well, being able to unwind, far away from the busy work-a-day world! It was great to just walk to the beach or restaurant next door for refreshments. We made use of the swimming pool/recreation center that is also right next door to the condo. There is a very nice shop that carries a lot of nice clothing/beach wear located at the beach. The beach restaurant and at nearby Kaibo restaurant, there are weekly barbeque nights with wonderful food and live music and dancing. There is a really nice grocery store that is a great place to stock up on the way to The Retreat from the airport. This year we rented a car, which was fun because we could drive around the island. The Christmas decorations around the island were really impressive and stunning. A must see during the months of December and January. I highly recommend The Retreat at Rum Point with it's ocean view balcony and resort beach and activities center just next door.
