The cottage at Te Moana shares a landscaped 1-acre waterfront lot with owners Peter & Annabella Proudlock’s home. Only one mile from the centre of Ocho Rios, yet a world away, Te Moana offers an idyllic escape from the real world.
The property is perched on a cliff 30 ft above the Caribbean Sea, which is accessed by steps over smooth rocks to a sandy swimming area. The adjacent reef provides shelter from the waves and interesting snorkeling. Complementary single and double kayaks are a fun way to explore the coastline. Passing fishing canoes offer a motorized alternative. There is a sunbathing/sunset-watching deck just above the sea., and a more private yoga platform, sheltered by a small island. Four reasonably well-behaved dogs and three rather shy cats provide the requisite security, but will not intrude unless invited. The fourth cat, Kayak, is resident in the cottage, but welcomes visitors warmly. There are two well-stocked grocery stores, and a beach within easy walking distance.
The Cottage is completely self-contained, with its own entrance and small garden, located on the sea. Downstairs is spacious (366 sq.ft/34 sq.m) and houses the fully equipped kitchen with wall safe, living area with dining table, sleeping alcove with single/day-bed, bathroom with in/outdoor shower, and the water heater.
Terracotta tiles and wicker furniture are attractive and functional, while the walls are adorned with part of Peter & Annabella’s eclectic art & craft collection. The 24' x 9' (7.3 x 2.7 m) verandah boasts 2 hammocks, 2 chairs and another dining table.
The bedroom (330 sq.ft/31 sq.m), accessed by an external staircase, has an Indian feel with a view that is 100% Caribbean. There is a king-sized bed, sitting area, small balcony and shower room. A flat-panel LCD television carries 100+ TV and 60+ radio channels.
Rumours that, on a clear day, you can see Cuba remain unconfirmed, although it does appear possible. Ceiling fans and the trade winds provide all the necessary cooling.
The garden has a cliffside deck with bench for relaxing sundowners. Steps lead down to a grotto, where the kayaks are kept, and on to a bridge and more steps.

We really loved the Seaside Cottage - it was just what we were looking for. Just like the description says, it is eclectic - filled with art, both made and acquired by Annabella (through Harmony Hall, no doubt - which, if you're an "art person" you must make time to see during your stay). We could walk into town, or easily take a taxi (very cheap). We preferred walking mostly, as it's not very far, and we enjoyed taking in the "local flavor". The dogs and cats were so friendly, and very cute! Peter and Annabella are definitely good people and they really made us feel "at home". We really loved it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing vacation on the cliffs near Ocho Rios.
A truly wonderful "best value" authentic Jamaican rental. Peter and his crew are lovely. Not to mention the views every morning.....
From the beginning of the booking process until our checkout, everything went smoothly. The space is as pictured, just bigger and better. The views are breathtaking. It was fabulous to be so close to town, yet feeling so remote from it. We enjoyed the amenities and the quietness. Thank you again Peter for a great Jamaican stay!
This cottage certainly has a perfect location, sitting with a beautiful garden overlooking the ocean with nicely designed stone steps through a grotto right down to a peaceful deck and a great ladder into the sea. It is right on a fantastic reef teaming with life. Perfect snorkeling. We saw many new species...
The house is charming. The décor is personal and quirky. It is simple but very comfortable with many sitting areas. There is a beautiful porch off the bedroom on the second story with an amazing view of the ocean that is perfect for breakfast. There are hammocks and a big dining table on the covered veranda facing the garden. The life of the house is focused on the sea and sky. The outdoor shower is fun and amazingly decorated. Peter and the staff are fantastic. The mango tree right out the door was dropping mangos in front of the house. When we mentioned we loved mangos the staff brought us another type of mango from the other side of the property and Jamaican apples. The house is on a tiny road on the ocean and is so close to town but feels miles away. It is a perfect retreat, hidden, but near to anything you might need in Ochi.
I enjoyed my stay at Peter's place. I loved the outdoor shower with the view. It was very nice and romantic, and the seclusion for a romantic getaway is superb. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies needed and even was in walking distance of the town, but it easier if you have a car, or take a route taxi. My only issue would be the kayak's need some minor repair/maintenance for exploring the water's off shore and some paddles/oars. The maid service was excellent. Overall the place, was really great. Thanks Peter
very beautiful, peaceful, tranquility, the view is spectacular!! wonderfully decorated is the house. So relaxing, you have everything, there´s a kitchen and 2 bathrooms, one on the outside! very nice!
I can't say enough about this adorable Cottage. It is definitely a hidden gem and by far the best place we have ever stayed. The cottage has a personality of its own and the pictures online just don't do it justice. If I had to describe it in 2 words I'd say HIDDEN PARADISE. The views are amazing and quite breathtaking. You feel as if your isolated yet your still so close to everything.
Lets start with the favorites:
-The outdoor shower is the cutest thing! Taking a shower while having an ocean view and breeze is awesome.
-The bedroom is so comfy and waking up to the sunrise with the ocean breeze makes you feel as if you are truly in paradise. Theres no AC but with the constant breezes we didn't even really need the fans.
- We love how open the whole place is with constant breezes and fresh air. The mosquitoes weren't much of a problem but I did bring my OFF.
-The decor and artwork is so unique and captivating. We have made it a goal now to try and find hidden gems like this every vacation!
-The cove and path to the to the ocean and dock is a nice surprise as its not in the photos but one of our favorite things. The kayaks were alot of fun. I can't say enough about the amazing snorkeling right off the dock. Its a hidden coral paradise. There is little if any boats or people in this area, again making your feel like you have your own little piece of paradise.
-The hammocks instantly force you to relax and unwind. It was one of our favorite spots to lounge, read a book, have a drink and take in the view. Although there was wifi we found that this cottage had the effect of making you easily want to disconnect from the world.
We truly loved every little thing about the cottage. Lets not forget that the host Peter is awesome in and of himself!!! He was always easy to reach and very helpful! We arranged our airport pickups with him which we ended up using same driver for an outing. We literally did not leave the cottage for several days until we ran out of food! Between relaxing/lounging and the water access honestly you could spend your entire vacation here ! There is a delicious Jamaican spot with signage simply of "Restaurant" over the door that has delicious cheap food which is walking distance.
Absolutely Love this Cottage! Almost don't want others to know about it so we can feel like it is our secret BUT Do yourself a favor and get in on this secret! We are already planning our return visit. If your looking 4 a relaxing paradise this is it.
The Ocho Rios area boasts more attractions than anywhere else in Jamaica, including the world famous Dunn's River Falls. Bob Marley's birth and final resting place can be found at Nine Miles in the hills of St. Ann. Water sports, horseback riding, river tubing, canopy rides, swimming with dolphins, plantation tours, botanical gardens are all here, along with a less traditional ride on a camel.
