About Tanja Schuemer
Peter (born in Great Britain, raised in South Africa) and Tanya (a Berlin native) live in Kenya with their two daughters, Maya and Leilah. Both of them work in the fields of development and security policy. We really like Kenya’s unique landscape and culture, and the freedom that Africa affords our family. All four of us love our mountain bikes and our three, young German Shepherds.

Wonderful home away from home!
Thank you for offering us a home away from home! We were 4 adults and 2 teenagers The house is so spacious that at no time were we in each other's way! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially viewing the Humpback whale and her calf from our window!
Kathy was amazing! So many wonderful tips of places to visit and to eat. We really loved the food, staff and ambiance at Dixie's Restaurant! We ate there almost every day!
One thing I would have appreciated knowing before arrival is that most homes in South Africa do not have heaters! We were pretty cold in the mornings and evenings. Perhaps space heaters would have been useful. They have a wood fireplace in the living room but this wouldn't really reach the rooms, nor the bedroom downstairs. We had to get used to taking showers in the cold, but my understanding is that most homes are like this.
Another South African issue we found is that Internet connections are very slow. I understand the owner is to connect to Fiber very soon, but in the meantime uploading posts to Instagram (especially those with videos) take about an hour to two hours to upload. But I believe it's slow everywhere. Even my international plan on my phone with 3-4G was slow.
I hope not to cause offense...we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again on a future trip! These are just things I would have appreciated knowing. I hope this helps others in their preparations for a visit! Perhaps this will help you remember to pack warm pajamas...unlike me! :)
Great house in stunning location
4 adults and 4 children shared this spacious property. For us it was ideally located being in walking distance of the beach and local shop. It was a short drive to a large shopping mall as well as Simonstown which has interesting shops, cafes and harbour area. From there a few minutes to see the penguins. Kalk Bay has many interesting shops and cafes and was only a few minutes drive away. Lovely walks directly from the house. Scratch Patch nearby was wonderful for a rainy day. Plenty to interest children and adults alike.
We loved the sun room with fantastic views as well as the large dining area and lounge. The kitchen was adequate for cooking for 8 of us and the bedrooms were comfortable. We appreciated the 3 proper bathrooms and the generous storage area in the double garage - useful for hanging washing on a rainy day. Overall a great place for our holiday.
Fantastic accommodation with great views
The property is easily accessible with provision shops nearby. We were greeted by agents of the owners who helped us settle in well. The property was in excellent order throughout and has extensive views across the waters to Simon's Town. Fantastic accommodation that we would highly recommend to everyone. We will be back!
Dear Annette, Thank you and we would love to welcome you again. With very best wishes,
Huge house, great location, stunning views !!!
We are a family of five and enjoyed very much our stay at False Horizon!
The house is very spacious, cosy and well equipped with a stunning ocean view. We enjoyed the newly renovated bathrooms and the additional condo in the basement, equipped with a piano :-)
The weather was very cold so we became to use and love the fireplace in the house very very much.
We had a very warm welcome from Kathy who took good care of all our questions and needs during our stay. A special thank you and very big hug to her !!!
Overall False Herizon is a great place to stay. And we're looking forward to hopefully come back soon.
Dear Anja, thank you for staying with us! It was such a pleasure and we hope you will come back one day. Enjoy a good trip home. Tanja
Wonderful property for families well situated
Spacious house with beautiful views situated in Glencairn close to Simontown. Everything worked well and the house is definitely comfortable. For a family of 5 this was perfect with grocery shopping close by at the Longview Mall but especially great location if you rent a car since you can access lots of nice beaches close by (Muizenberg for surfing and warmer water), based on which way the wind is blowing you can go to either the west or east beaches. Only an hour drive from City Center via the M3 or even more spectacular Chapman's Peak drive (through Hout Bay) and on to Table Mountain. Also easy access to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and all the vineyards either at Constantia, Stellenbosch or Summerset West. I fully recommend this place and the person greeting (Debbie) us was very helpful as well. Overall the house was very clean and lived up to all it promised.
A house on a hill to remember!
My wife and I rented this home on our first trim to South Africa. We are not familiar with the area and lucked out with this house. It is in a great neighborhood. Perfectly situated to take advantage of the endless breeze coming off the ocean and to reveal a breathtaking sunrise every morning. If you are looking for an authentic experience then Glencarin is the perfect little area. A short walk will bring you to the train station where for about $2.00 you can ride between the towns all day long, or grab an UBER that never took longer than 10 minutes to pick us up regardless of time of day. If you would rather walk there are convenient paths / sidewalks that hug the coast line and offer amazing scenery.
The only thing that would have made this stay more enjoyable would have been adding three to four weeks to our stay. Nine days is just not long enough in such a warm, and inviting home.
Dear Jacob, We are very happy that you thoroughly enjoyed your holiday and our house. You were the first one to enjoy our newly rebuild bathrooms. We would be delighted to welcome you again any time. I wish you a happy 2017.
False Horizons sits atop a hill, overlooking False Bay, Glencairn Beach, and the mountains. The area is known for its beautiful beaches, water sports offerings, and golf courses, but especially for the large number of whales (September through November) and the bays full of penguins. The three upper bedrooms have a view of the bay, the beach, and the mountains. The long, sandy beach is just a 10-minute walk away. It is a favourite among families and surfers. Glencairn is a peaceful place, with spectacular views as well as plenty of shopping, restaurants, and bars. It has a spa and sports facilities and, to top it all off, many amazing hike and bike trails wind through the hilly landscape. It’s the perfect place for mountain bikers, hikers, (kite)surfers and other water sports aficionados, as well as families. Two mountain bikes are available for use, in addition to the toys and games provided for the kids. Glencairn is part of Simon’s Town, famous for its penguins, its port, and its waterfront full of restaurants and shops. Simon’s Town Waterfront is just a short drive away. Kalk Bay, with its countless cafes, restaurants, intriguing storefronts, and active fishing harbour, is a great place to stroll and look around. Cape Point and its unique, unspoilt landscape are truly ravishing. Cape Point is just a short drive away. There is a road that leads from Glencairn to the centre of Cape Town, which is roughly a 35-minute drive.
