Cozy country cottage, surrounded by nature, charming and peaceful cottage

This small but comfortable cottage is situated surrounded by nature, in a private location on its own lot, near Lake Gislholt and about 4 km from our farm Skinnhufa. It is furnished and decorated with attention to detail and offers you a typical and homely Icelandic summer house atmosphere all year round.

SEL has beautiful open views into the surrounding pastures, mountains and the lake!

IDEAL LOCATION for daytrips to all the sights in the South of Iceland! Detailed information and descriptions are in the cottages for you. We gladly assist you with any queries you have!

Some of the day trips: Golden Circle, Geysir, Gullfoss and Thingvellir; Skogar waterfall and museum, bird cliffs near Vik (black beach) and Dyrholaey. Or take the ferry to the Westman Islands! Blue Lagoon and scenic drive along coast road; Reykjavik in 80km. In summer you can take the highland bus or Hekla taxi to Landmannalaugar and its hot springs in the highlands, or drive to the bottom of Hekla and hike to the top!

The nearest SWIMMING POOL is 7km away. Insider tip: a very rustic old geothermal pool in the middle of nowhere: Seljavallalaug gamla, info in the cottages!

A very good RIDING STABLE is nearby (7 km), catering for beginners and experienced riders alike, see here for more information: during summer months: www.herridarholl.is or year round www.kalfholt.is

Bird watching: From May until the end of July you can watch up to 25 bird species. An owl lives nearby and you can sometimes hear the loons on the lake.

The cottages are about 4 km from our farm and we gladly assist you during your stay if you wish.

Great location and well laid out

  • 5 of 5

This surprisingly spacious property which was very clean and well equipped was an ideal base from which to explore the South of Iceland. Maja was a great host and provided us with some great day trip ideas which meant we made maximum use of our time. We would definitely recommend to family and friends and would love to go back.

Amazing Place & Host!

  • 5 of 5

Recently my family and I had the pleasure of spending a few weeks in Iceland. During this stay we had the privilege of staying at some amazing locations. The sights and sounds of the country were beautiful and our host just made that experience even better. We arrived to find our accommodations just as we expected and during our stay were provided with great recommendations for sights and places to eat by our host. I would highly recommend staying at Maja’s cottage again. Thank you for be such a great host and we could not ask for a better place to stay in Iceland.

Ideal Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I don't know what else I can say that hasn't already been said in previous reviews but I will try. This place was perfect for us, a real retreat and a place to escape from it all. Set in an idyllic location with breath-taking scenery, it was lovely to hear the birds in the evening, which was relaxing.

The cabin is well equipped and the Wi-Fi worked a treat, better than anticipated. We met Maja who was very helpful, accommodating and is on hand should you need anything (which we didn't).

We had booked well in advanced and were very excited about our first trip to Iceland and we were not disappointed.

I would definitely recommend this holiday cottage and we hope to return again someday!

Wonderful cabin and a great location.

  • 4 of 5

The Sel cabin was warm, well appointed and had plenty of room for 4. The location is well situated to see all the sites around the golden circle and beyond, but still in a remote and peaceful environment after a big day of adventure. Our host had plenty of advice on where to go and what to do which also helped to fill our days. Thanks for a wonderful time!

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

I can hardly think of words adequate to describe my 7 day stay at the Sel. I wish I was still there. Clean is always a priority for me and it was that. It was cozy and so peaceful. It was a delight to come back to after a day of exploring the south coast. It was central and ideal to get to places. The dirt/gravel road brought back fond memories of growing up in rural Canada; as did the sheep that were always feeding on or beside the road. Thank you Maja for all your helpful suggestions. Even though I was travelling alone and I saw you only once, I knew you were 'present' should I need anything. It felt very comfortable and safe. Thank you again!

Absolutely Adorable

  • 5 of 5

Sel is an adorable cottage in which you instantly feel at home. It is the perfect place to stay for either bunkering down in the wilderness or using it as a base for day trips to the many must see locations along the south coast. The cottage is very clean, stocked with everything you need and is very easy to reach. Given the time of our stay (mid February) we rented a 4WD and had no troubles navigating the roads.

Maja was extremely friendly and helpful. She provided comprehensive directions and details on all of the attractions in the area.

I would definitely recommend this property to family or a friend.

Thanks Maja :)
