About Maibrit Hofer

We are a family from South Tyrol, the region on the very north of Italy. My father Norbert loves gardening and this passion brought him to lake Garda. In 2003 my parents bought an abandoned and overgrown estate (ask for photos when you visit!!) on the lake and spend every weekend and every vacation for the next 11 years there, creating this little piece of paradise we call Villa Castelletto today.

I am the daughter and help them getting the word out about this very special place.

Maibrit Hofer purchased this villa in 2003

A must for any nature lover

Also, The views are unbeatable, the house was gorgeous inside and out, and there was plenty to keep you busy without having to go down to town, including: the sauna, the Jacuzzi, the hammocks for a nap the natural pool the ping-pong table and the list goes on...

Last but not least the hosts were very on top of everything to ensure we had a fantastic stay, and pampered us from day one.

Will deffinitely return!!!

An Absolutely Fabulous Experience

  • 5 of 5

This is an all around 5-star experience. The house is absolutely luxurious with stunning views from every angle of the home. The house was extremely comfortable, the lay-out of the home and outdoor areas allowed for plenty of communal activities, but also space for quiet relaxation, and the amenities were of the same quality that you'd have in your own home. What I loved most about the home was the clean and solid construction and just the simplicity yet elegance of the decor.

We stayed with 3 adults and 3 children (8, 6 and 4 years old). The lay-out was perfect for our group. The rooms were simple and spacious. We had one room for the parents, the other room was for the children and the apartment for the nanny. With a large kitchen stocked with the necessary amenities, we were able to cook wonderful meals that we enjoyed in several different dining areas around the property (front porch, back porch, garden, dining room).

The grounds were just beautiful. The house had a man-made pond that the children loved swimming in and exploring. There was a sauna, a hot tub, a reading room and outside lounging areas to enjoy the views. The yard was the perfect combination of natural and landscaped gardens. There were vegetable and herb gardens that allowed us to make salads and add fresh herbs to all our meals that made them that much more enjoyable.

And finally, our hosts were so gracious and made us feel so welcome. We had a wonderful welcome package awaiting our arrival. Hildegard brought us fresh homemade bread twice during our stay and a wonderful strudel. There were fresh flower arrangements around the house every morning. The children were always excited to spy on Hildegard, Norbet and Mabrit in the yard in the morning or at their house on our way in and out of the property.

The surrounding area was also delightful. We had a lot of fun exploring the nearby towns. The closest town is Castelleto di Brenzone. An easy 10 minute drive from the house and pretty difficult 20-25 minute hike down (to get to town)/up (to get home) the mountain. The two older children made the hike once, but the 4 year old was basically carried back up the mountain. While they were proud of getting to the town and back once, none of the children wanted to do it again. Our favorite restaurant was ristorante da umberto where we enjoyed several lunches and a couple of dinners. Luca the owner was such a treat!

We can't wait to visit again!

Top-notch Accommodations; Privacy; AMAZING views

  • 5 of 5

Believe the photos you see -- Villa Castelletto looks every bit like them, and I'd argue it's much better in person.

Here are some facts:

* There are no neighbors and it is absolutely silent -- just sitting around one feels relaxed

* Unobstructed views of the mountains that plunge into Lake Garda

* High-end finishes, quality linens/towels, and a kitchen stocked with everything you'd need

* Warmest hospitality from the Hofers

Things to know (these are not complaints by any means, but they are things you'd want to know :)):

* The gravel driveway is steep and has some hairpin turns. When they mention you would want a SUV or AWD vehicle, they're being honest. We had an AWD BMW 4-series and did just fine, but we went slowly to avoid scraping the underside. After a few drives, it becomes super easy, but just be aware of this especially if your car has low ground clearance. And, you need to have a car here -- this is not for people who rely on public transportation.

* It's a good 10 minute drive to get to San Zeno (probably the biggest, closest town), and maybe 15 minutes to Brenzone. We found ourselves wanting to eat a large lunch at restaurants during the day, and with the coziness of the villa, it was great to cook in the huge kitchen at night so everybody could relax with wine and not worry about driving the windy roads home.

* The Hofers maintain a great herb garden -- thyme, rosemary, oregano, and others -- are right outside the door.

* There are essentially two apartments in the villa -- the top floor apartment has a bedroom, bathroom, and small kitchenette. The lower apartment is the main one that has the huge kitchen, 2 en-suite bedrooms, separate bathroom, and living areas. There are separate entrances for each.

* Wifi speed is good, but not ultra-fast. There is a nice speaker box that connects via Bluetooth or Aux jack to play music.

The peaceful and idyllic location made this a wonderful getaway spot -- I would stay here again without any reservations and would recommend it to anybody.

Luxury Villa with Stunning Views over Lake Garda

  • 5 of 5

Villa Castelletto is a superb choice for a Lake Garda vacation. It enjoys stunning views from its hillside location looking down over Castelletto to Lake Garda, and is set in superb landscaped grounds. Private, and reached by its own secluded track, there are several peaceful spots to relax in the extensive grounds overlooking the lake, olive groves or by the natural pool, sauna or hot tub

The villa itself is very well-appointed with high quality fixtures and fittings to make your stay enjoyable and stress free – it has absolutely everything you need. The Hofer family provided a warm and friendly welcome, were superb in answering any initial booking enquiries, and are always on hand (discreetly) if you have any issues or want some help with recommendations with local attractions and restaurants.

Ideally placed to explore the towns and villages and enjoy the activities around Lake Garda, the opera in Verona, and also venture further afield – Venice was easily drivable on a day trip.

Highly recommended.

Wow - Absolutely stunning villa

  • 5 of 5

Probably best to say that our stay at Villa Castelleto vastly exceeded already high expectations. The pictures of the villa give an idea of how the place looks, but only when you are actually there does the full beauty of the place and the surroundings really come to life. So peaceful and relaxing.

Villa - Feels much bigger inside than the pictures show. And everything is so clean and modern and new, but still comfortable and done in a traditional style. Three bedrooms, three immaculate bathrooms (and one toilet room on the groundfloor with a urinal!), huge modern kitchen with everything you'd ever need to cook, fireplace, webber bbq grill, wine cellar, laundry room, deck with beautiful hot tub with amazing views of the lake, outdoor tables, natural swimming pool just up the hill, brand new sauna right next to the pool. Only thing to note is that the upstairs (which has one bedroom/bathroom/and kitchen area) is almost like a separate apartment...there are no internal stairs to get from one to the other, so you have to walk outside. No big deal as long as its not raining! Other thing to note is the driveway; as the hosts will tell you, it is a steep gravel road that can be difficult to drive up when wet. We did NOT have a four wheel drive vehicle and managed to handle the drive, but if you are not an adventurous driver then a 4x4 would be preferred. Fiat makes the small Panda model in a 4x4 version, so you don't need to break the bank in Italy to get a 4x4 car.

Hospitality - couldn't have asked for anything more from the Hofer family. They were the ideal hosts; so friendly and helpful both in arranging our holiday before we arrived, as well as making sure we had everything we needed when we were there. Hildegard delivered homemade fresh bread and pastries to us every morning, Norbert arrived with some fresh eggs from the chickens one day, and they were always keen to check to make sure that everything about our stay was going well without being intrusive. And Maibrit was so helpful in arranging our visit ahead of time.

Surrounding Area - so many things to see and do in the Lake Garda region, from sailing/boating on the lake (can rent boats right from the marina in Castelletto di Brenzone), hiking the Roman Road right from the property, visting Valpolicello or Verona, and enjoying the various towns along the lake. So much to do...we will be back.

Many thanks to the Hofer family!

6 adults, 3 children

Villa Castelletto lies on the east shore of lake Garda, just above the charming village Castelletto di Brenzone and close to the village San Zeno in Montagna. Castelletto di Brenzone, is only a 15 minutes walk (1.5 km) away and is located directly on Lake Garda. An ancient Roman path connects the village with the mountains and bypasses the villa grounds.

By car it is about 5km to Castelletto di Brenzone where you will find several excellent fish restaurants, pizzerias and small supermarkets. The ferry runs daily from Castelletto di Brenzone to the other side.

There are no direct neighbours and no street noise.
