|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
The house Kaldbakur is situated on the Nollur farm and offers privacy as well as perfect panoramic views. Only first-class natural materials have been used for this spacious house. The 60 m2 living room and kitchen offers an unrestricted view of the fjord. The 6 m2 hot tub is situated under the roof and allows relaxing and enjoying the fantastic views. The designer bathroom has a large shower (4 m2) as well as a tumble dryer and a washing machine. The first bedroom has four beds (2 bunk beds), the second bedroom a fantastic king-size bed made of nutwood. All rooms have a view to the west.
The house was built to offer larger families or two couples a comfortable stay in Northern Iceland.
My husband and I just spent the past 4 days at this lovely fjord side home! We felt at home the minute we stepped inside the house. This newly built vacation home has all the amenities that one expects. The view is so amazing that it was difficult for us to leave the house. The beds are amazingly comfy ... The hot tub is unique and fabulous and the view of the northern lights on our first night was an added surprise that we were hoping would happen. The house is very roomy ... And the kichen had everything we needed. You will need to purchase spices and.sugar - no problem :-) we can't say enough about how wonderful it was. Highly recommend! Thank you for everything! M & M
We decided to split our trip to Iceland up in 3 - and this was our second place after 3 nights in Reykjavík. Arrival arrangements went really well. We stopped in the local 'Bonus' supermarket and called to say we would be roughly 30 minutes away and a time was agreed. Upon arrival to the house - which was found very easily, we were very happy.
The house is large, well designed and comfortably slept all 6 of us. The design and finish through the property is exceptional and all our children loved the hot tub whilst overlooking the sea and the Northern lights shining above.
I would happily recommend this as a great location to stay as Akureyri as its not far and is also a great hub to use for the North/ North East with some exceptional places to visit nearby - Myvatan etc
We would look forward to visiting this place again sometime soon as there is so much to see and do up this part of Iceland :)
We had an absolutely incredible stay at the beautiful Kaldbakur house and highly recommend this property to anybody visiting North Iceland.
From start to finish the communication from Carmen, Thomas and Anna-Bara was excellent and always extremely quick, quicker than any other property I have rented. They were extremely helpful and always answered any questions I had regarding the house.
We stayed at this property for a week in late January and drove there from Reykjavik during daylight hours which takes around 6-7 hours depending on the weather. During our drive to Akureyri we experienced all 4 seasons in one day including strong wind, heavy snowfall and zero visibility. Studded tyres on your hire car (and preferably 4WD) are absolutely essential when staying at this property in the winter as certain parts of route 1 can be very bad during storms, particularly Öxnadalsheiði. It's worth keeping an eye on www.road.is to check road conditions before setting off.
Once we reached Akureyri town we called Anna-Bara to let her know we'd be arriving in around 30 minutes. We were greeted by a very pleasant and friendly young lady who showed us around the house and handed the keys over to us. After she left we weren't sure where to find the WiFi password but a quick text to Anna-Bara produced an answer within only a few minutes.
The house itself is spectacular and very well equipped. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need during your stay. The build quality and materials used to build and decorate the house are clearly all of very high standard, including the comfortable beds which were great for a good nights sleep after a long day exploring. The house also has a washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher which make things that little bit easier. Oh, and not to forget the fantastic hot tub outside which is perfect to relax in overlooking the fjord. We were also lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights on a few occasions from the house despite the poor weather.
There's plenty of things to do and see in North Iceland, even in the winter time when tourists are few and far between. We were emailed a very handy PDF file which had a few ideas for day trips around the local area. Akureyri City is only a 20 minute drive away and contains a few big supermarkets (Netto/Bonus) which were ideal for buying supplies.
Overall, I couldn't recommend this house highly enough - It's perfect. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
My girlfriend and I headed to this wonderful location for a Valentine's weekend escape. The place was impeccable- overlooking a fjord, totally secluded, and exactly what we were looking for. Our Host was great and super communicative. My only little hiccup was we had trouble finding the farm at night, but figured it all out in the end. highly recommended!
I just returned back from a trip to Iceland and had chosen to stay at this rental based on the pics and reviews. First--Thomas was immediately responsive and communicative on helping me book this trip. This was my first trip to Iceland so I was a little unfamiliar with location of the home but I can tell you, I'd stay there 100x over again. The photos really don't do this home and location justice--it is so remarkable, feels so rewarding and the area is quite powerful. Thomas has created a remarkable location to visit Iceland and I feel that Akureyri is so special--and worth the trip and a stay.
Now on the house: again...incredibly homey and tasteful. The beds were remarkably comfortable and the views were breathtaking. Also, there were sheep within viewing distance from the larger bedroom (something I was incredibly excited to see). The kitchen was tremendous for our meals every day (we ate in every a.m. and p.m.). It was winter there during this trip and the hot pot was spectacularly relaxing.
I can not say enough of how special this home is--it's the combination of how minimalism can be so comfortable in a remarkably beautiful setting. No detail is overlooked. I loved this home and my heart aches for another visit. Please do visit!
This home is the perfect combination of a beautiful home with a spectacular view. The house and the views are even better than the pictures. We wish we could have spent our entire vacation right here. We have rented many vacation homes and this one tops the list.
Unique panoramic surroundings with full view from Akureyri to the open sea.
30 kilometers to Akureyri (airport, shopping mall, hot springs, hospital, museum, concerts) and 8 kilometers to Grenivik (shop, gas station, museum, golf course, horse farm)
Horseback riding: Near the house there is the horse farm 'Polarhestar' with more than 100 horses. You can rent them for a few hours or take part in a longer ride in the nearby valleys.
Golf: There is a small 9-holes golf course in Grenivik 8 kilometers to the north.
Skiing: In winter, rides to the nearby Kaldbakkur with a big snowmobile are available. In Akureyri there is a classical skiing area with lifts and illuminated slopes.
