Why Lisa Dodson chose Oregon City

I love historic homes and places and Oregon City - 'The End of the Oregon Trail' being located just minutes from downtown Portland was perfect.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank-you Thanl-you Thank-you! Everything was perfect. You have thought of EVERYTHING to make anyone feel right aat home in "your" home! I had planned on unpacking and going straight to the store to pick up "necessities" - but you had everything we needed already here. The kids were so excited about the "stocked" fridge in the game room! We used the bon fire, the hot tub, and the game room! I couldn't believe you even had a GPS for us to use. (I could have left mine at home) We even had our family come out to visit one day - we were so proud to show off your beautiful home! We especially enjoyed sitting on the front deck in the sunshine. I was so lucky to find your house to rent. Thank you so much for sharing it with our family - I am SO happy we did not end up at a hotel! It was perfect!

Our second visit...

  • 5 of 5

We have returned to Portland and were happy to find the 1908 House available for our use. Thanks again for a wonderful place to make a "base" camp for our Norther adventures. Once again it was stocked to the hilt with all that we could possibly think of. We love your kitchen and the fact that you have included all we need to prepare our meals at the house. And what a great BBQ! We sat by the firepit in the rain! It was just too nice.

See you again in the Spring.

Wonderful family retreat!

Our family gathered in Oregon City at the "1908 HOUSE" and had a wonderful time. Ages ranged from 3 years old to 72 years old.....there were activities for all. The weather was not what we expected....snow and ice...but time flew by with laughing and shouts of joy. Thank you Lisa for providing a wonderful, comfortable home that had many amenities and a well stocked kitchen...as well as treats for all! If we ever have another reunion in this area we would love to return.

Perfect for College Vocal Trip!

  • 5 of 5

As a voice teacher from Eastern Oregon, I needed a place for my 13 college students and I to stay in Portland that would accommodate both the number of people AND our budget. A hotel would have been sufficient, but there's no place to gather and no opportunity to bond. This house was SO perfect! Plenty of room for everyone, extra bedding, very comfortable beds for good sleep for our performers, and a very well stocked kitchen. The food preparation for a large group was fun and easy thanks to plenty of the necessary tools and sharp knives! Thank you, Lisa! Hot water all morning for those performing, wonderful hot tub temperatures for soaking after a long day. The house is beautiful and has just enough quirks to remind us of it's wonderful history. The light switch hunts were fun, the explanations throughout the house made it easy to navigate, and the wifi was ample and fast (even with all those college students on it!). I especially appreciated the simple check out procedures. Communication with the homeowner was WONDERFUL even though she was out of the country! She made sure that we had everything we needed and local contact numbers if we needed anything at all. She was so wonderful to host such a group and we are hoping to stay again! We ended up with winners in all categories of our vocal contest and the celebrations were enjoyed together thanks to this wonderful rental home. Highly recommended!

Great fun for a big group!

Great set up for a big family! Loved the 80s arcade games. The family challenge was on when we got there. Lots of space for everyone. Old architecture and furniture to match gave homey feel. Complementary wine on arrival was a nice touch after a long travel day. Beds were comfy and lots of hot water. Would definitely stay again.

We had an excellent stay at this house for an extended weekend. Everything you need to host a fun gathering is at this house. A nice kitchen with appliances, wonderful table for everyone to sit down at and then retire to the back yard for some hot tubbing, grilling, or sitting by the fire under some dim party lights. Everything is labeled well, directions and rules are presented well.

The house setup is unique. Two bedrooms upstairs, One and a half on the first floor, and one kids room in the basement with bunk beds. There are also a couple of couches which make for a good place to sleep as well. The game room downstairs is neat. We didn't really use it, but if you have kids.. they can easily rule the basement and be content for hours on end. The outdoor cook station in the back yard is very nice and there is even a front deck with another grill.

There are some good places to eat nearby and roads that go directly from Oregon City out to the Mt Hood area. We took one afternoon and went to McIver State Park. Beautiful with exceptional fly fishing. We ate Sushi at Sushi Kata Japanese Restaurant. Exceptional food and did not break the bank.

I contacted Lisa a few times and she was quick to respond and very helpful. I would certainly recommend this location to anyone.

Beautifully appointed house in interesting location

We had a small family reunion (8 people) and loved this thoughtfully appointed historic house. We cooked most of the time and loved the kitchen tools and sharp knives as well as the wonderful grill station in the yard (another is in the front!). The children's bedroom is full of inviting toys, stuffed animals, and LED glowing stars that our toddler loved. The A/C kept us cool on some hot days. Books and videos were great. Many thanks! We would definitely return and also recommend this house to others.
