Hotel Byblos and Casa Sarita owners who enjoy travel, and adventure. We are a relatively active couple who have set our feet as firmly in Manuel Antonio as in Austin, Texas where are kids and grandkids live. Davis is an avid motorcycle rider who rode his BMW from Austin, TX to Ushuaia, Argentina. Sari is content to spend time on the beach, or stay behind with kids and grandkids. She did ride on the back from Santiago, Chili to Ushuaia, and then on to Buenos Aires. Summer finds them in Northern Wisconsin where Sari's family has had a cabin for 65 years.
Sari Henley purchased this villa in 2014
Rising Sun is located just five houses down from our beloved Casa Sarita. Davis was drawn to the property which needed an extensive renovation. The views were worth all the hard work he put in from May, 2014 to Christmas, 2014. It has turned out better than we ever dreamed, and we will enjoy our time here and sharing it with our clients.
Full use of Byblos Hotel is included in all rentals at Rising Sun. The home has two separate buildings, so it is great for family reunions and also weddings. The large deck and bar area above the guest house are perfect for celebrations of any type with fabulous Pacific Views
This was the first time I booked a house in another country so I was a bit nervous. VRBO and Sari the owner made it really easy. Firstly, the Villa is simply beautiful. It is clean, in great shape and has spectacular views everywhere. The surrounding foliage give you a lot of privacy as well. There was plenty of room for everyone to have privacy and the bathrooms were top notch. We loved the rain shower in the master bath!
Sari helped us out quite a bit. She put us in touch with the Hotel Byblos who help maintain the house. I had them stock groceries and adult beverages for our arrival. The delivery fee was $3. Instant party once we arrived as we had plenty of snacks, wine and cheese that were needed after a long trip. Byblos helped set up trips such as fishing, zip-lines, ATV tours, snorkeling etc. and they picked us up right at the Villa.
We chose to hire a chef on two occasions which turned out to be cheaper than restaurants. They were polite, cooked wonderfully and charged us for their services and the groceries they had to purchase. We also grilled a lot as the hut on the patio had a grill that Wiston (the Caretaker) cleaned every morning. I even asked him if it was a new grill but it was not. He cleaned this thing until it looked new every time and believe me, I left it quite a mess several times. Jannette the house keeper was wonderful. Everything was cleaned each day which was wonderful for all of us. It really was a vacation with little clean-up to do each day.
We learned that the Government of Costa Rica puts up ropes over streets so the monkeys do not get injured on the electrical lines. Some of these lines are close to the house. It was wonderful to see the monkeys come through several times a day. We had a clan of Capuchins, Squirrel (titi) and Howler Monkeys come by on a regular basis. We began to recognize some with babies and missing tails. It was the highlight of each day and more than we saw the the National Park. The TV even had the Patriots game on! Football in paradise.
What a great area and a great Villa! It was hard to leave!
Let me start by saying how wonderful the views in each room and each place in this house is... The moment and sun rises and the moment the sun goes down its just incredible! We were very lucky to have Melissa find us and get us this vacay house and it was WORTH IT! The rooms are very clean and spacious big enough for a big family, there are rooms for single people, couples and parents with kids. People will LOVEEE this house, the people has a slide kids and adults will love, the BBQ area its inmense and very clean and pretty, the bathrooms are pretty nice, only thing is when it rains or after a dip in the pool the stairs get very slippery, but aside that everything is just amazing, we were able to see the capuchin and titi monkeys twice and alot of them it was an amazinf experience for all of us being able to see monkeys upclose, also the view you have from the house to the beach ita incredible! If you ever find yourself being in Manuel Antonio With a big group or family this villa its alot better and staying at a hotel, better privacy, better days and nights
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this home, the experience we had while there, and the owner, Sari. From the very first contact we had with her, she was extremely nice, helpful, and accommodating. I had a business trip to Florida that was canceled last minute, and coincidentally we just happened to see this house online earlier that day. Since I had the time off already, we decided to contact Sari to see if it was, by any chance, available in TWO days. It was, and we could not have been more thrilled. Upon arriving at the home, we were blown away! The house was beautiful, incredibly clean, and had a phenomenal view from every room. As much as we loved Costa Rica and all of the experiences we had from touring Manuel Antonio National Park to relaxing at the beautiful beaches to zip lining, I have to say, we could have stayed at the Rising Sun enjoying the immaculate pool and being entertained by the monkeys the entire trip and been just as happy. The first day we were there, the monkeys came swinging in and took over all of the many balconies on the house at around 3:30pm. From then on, we made sure we were home by 3pm to see the show. I have hours of video from those silly monkeys who were very comfortable having people being only feet away from them. Word of warning, though, hold on to your drinks or they will knock them over! This was a trip of a lifetime for us, and we have Sari and their beautiful home to thank for that. She was the most gracious host someone could be...even though she was in a different country at the time. Her staff took care of everything we could have possibly needed. I have never been so sad to see a vacation end, and I am 100% sure that we will be back as soon as humanly possible. Staying at a resort will not be an option for me after my experience at the Rising Sun!
Our trip was amazing. Costa Rica itself is a beautiful, genuine, Country- and so is Rising Sun. The house is gorgeous- everything you can think of- it has. The staff was wonderful. We did not rent a car, and were able to get around walking or with the bus system. We did get out and explore- but some of our best memories were made at the house. After a day of fishing, we were able to cook out on the rooftop grill. After stocking up on fresh food from the Farmer's Market- we cooked and gathered in the kitchen. We did LOTS of swimming and sliding (which our kids loved). We were visited daily by multiple types of monkeys, butterflies, even lighting bugs! Just typing up this review makes me want to go back. And I think we will- and I would hands down stay at Rising Sun again! Thank you Sari for a life long memorable trip, I couldn't have asked for more and you made everything so easy. THANK YOU!
Rising Sun exceeded our expectations! As a party of 8 women celebrating a milestone birthday, there was more than enough room for us to gather when we wanted to, or find quiet space to relax on our own.
The views are incredible. We loved waking up in the morning and enjoying coffee outside on one of the many decks. The kitchen had everything we needed (including a juicer for limes so that we could make margaritas!) and the common space perfect for a group of our size. It was also lovely to have access to a BBQ and the provided portable cooler to take to the beach was much appreciated.
Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs though. This Villa has many levels.
The parade of monkeys each morning and night across the property provided excellent entertainment. (Although be sure to not leave anything unattended when they come. We had one monkey try to take off with a beach cover up that was left out on a railing to dry!)
Having access to the hotel was a bonus and Melissa helped us plan some excursions and arranged for a Chef to come to the Villa to make us dinner one evening.
We did not have a car but found access to taxis was cheap and efficient. Walking UP into town is not for the faint of heart in the heat. But we were an active group, so it was not an issue.
Janet provided excellent daily housekeeping services and Winston kept the pool clean and grounds well maintained. NOTE: The pool slide is MUCH FASTER than it looks. MUCH FASTER.
Would definitely recommend Rising Sun. We hope to go back!
This was the perfect home for our group of couples and singles, and would be equally well suited for a large family. The unique architecture, elegant furnishings, views and overall ambience of Rising Sun greatly exceeded our expectations and was an unforgettable experience. Our party used the main house and guest apartment, and we were all able to have privacy while still enjoying the elaborate pool area as a group (the pool slide is incredible!!). The house is huge with spectacular views in every room of lush jungle habitat and the Pacific ocean. The kitchen is well stocked with delicious treats, coffee, beautiful fresh-cut flowers, and the appliances are high end. Most importantly, everything was very updated and fully functional. The house is liberally decorated with interesting statuary artwork at every turn. We were well cared-for by Wiston, who takes care of the outside areas and pool daily and Jeanette, who kept the house immaculate inside and even washed and ironed our laundry for a nominal charge. Monkeys, birds and sloths visited us regularly and made our stay truly magical. It was like staying in a tropical zoo, but with all the luxury of a resort. The house is conveniently located about a hundred yards from the main Manuel Antonio road that gives you easy bus access to the whole town and beach, with tons of restaurants in easy walking distance. We particularly enjoyed the food and evening activities at the Byblos Hotel, which is right across the street. Also, all of our excursions and airport transportation picked us off/dropped us off right at the house, which was extremely convenient. I hope to have another opportunity to come back and stay at this truly magical property that just oozes with luxury, Costa Rican details, and tropical wildlife.
Pacific Rim Canyon is the premier private gated community off the main road connecting Quepos and Manuel Antonio Park. The home offers spectacular 180 degree ocean views in a jungle setting and regular visits from a variety of monkey species, yet is only 200 meters walking distance to the majority of the area's upscale dining and amenities, or bus stop. Playa Espadilla, aka Manuel Antonio, is located approximately 1 mile from Rising Sun. Playa Manuel Antonio has been listed as one of the Top Beaches in the World by Fodors, Trip Advisor, and other publications. The smaller, more private beach in the area, Playa Biesanz, is located about 1 mile from Rising Sun on the Mariposa Hotel Road. The Mariposa Hotel is listed in the book 1000 Places to See Before You Die. You'll want to go there for a sunset and check that off the list.
