The Captain's Suite, King Bed, Jetted Tub, Walkin Shower, Exceptional Oceanview
We moved to the Big Island in 1987 with Greg's work at Bank of Hawaii and built our home here in Captain Cook in1988, originally the main house was 2 bedroom and 2 baths, with a carport. Planning for retirement we added square footage for two vacation rentals on the property in 1998 with creative design features and later expanded the footprint of the house and added solar power. The whole process has been a fun and gratifying experience of creativity. We loved the large stand of bamboo on the property, so it's a focal point in the design of the two rental units and each unit also has its own parking and BBQ area close to its individual private entry. We've received much enjoyment and satisfaction providing hospitality to many seasoned travelers over the years and have many repeat guests we consider friends. That said we give our guest all the privacy they desire. The honor system has worked well over the years and some guests have checked in with the key code and checked out without us meeting them because of the layout of the property. We provide excellent accommodations at a very good price for our guest and people have appreciated that and taken very good care of the property we're sharing them, leaving it as good as they found it. "Peaberry" is our 9 years old dog, a black lab looking, mix and Mr. Mow, our 15-year-old Siamese cat.
Nancy purchased this Apartment in 1989
Why Nancy chose Captain Cook
Over the years we’ve established this property to not only share the great ocean and wide coastal views and the very pleasing accommodations but also we offer an agricultural experience for our guests in this lush tropical environment with a wide verity of flowers, plants and trees that we’ve planted on the property over the years. And although the property is not of a size for economically viable farming, it does illustrate to our guests the potential of the extraordinary growing environment along Mamalahoa Hwy from Honaunau to Palani Road in and around the 1,000 ft elevation where Coffee and Mac Nut farming has existed since the 1800’s, because of the perfect rainfall and plentiful sunshine at this elevation. Be sure to check out the Historic Living Coffee Farm exhibit just down the road and the Amy Greenwell Botanical Gardens nearby and for old time flavor also see Manago Hotel and Tashima’s Restaurant both here since the early 1900’s. The Kona Historical Museum is also close by and well worth visiting. Many will want to see the two historic church's in the area and of course, you’ll want to visit the Farmers Green Market in Captain Cook on Sundays. We also offer our lending library while your here with books about Hawaiian Culture and History as well as information about Coffee Farming provided by the University of Hawaii.
What makes this Apartment unique

Beautiful lanai, great view! A nice stay in a beautiful home
If I could give this house 10 stars, I would.
The view was beyond what the pictures convey! We loved visiting the sights during the day and just sitting and enjoying the view, birds and open air, in the afternoons.
The perfect getaway
I have stayed at many places in the Captain Cook area, and this is by far the nicest place I have found. Everything about it was perfect for us, and we will definitely be going back. I highly recommend this beautiful cottage .
Great view and great tub cozy too
This place has a beautiful view and the condo is fully equipped with what you need for your stay. The big soaking tub was a great feature. I was unaware that there would be people staying below us as the unit is stacked one above one below but the occupants were gone after a day so it was no issue. I was also unaware that the owners home is side by side of the unit attached by a garage. The windows to the unit must be opened at all times because there is no AC so Although it seemed private we would have preferred to stay in a more private space. It was a little warm at first but we acclimated. There are fans and a dehumidifier that helped. Temps were comfortable. As for the area of Captain Cook It's rainy and the roads are pitch black at night up in the mountain. Driving at night could be scary if you're not use to this type of terrain. The gps was a little wacky and we got lost a few times finding our way back. Overall we enjoyed the stay the place was great and upscale but we probably would not stay here again.
By far best place we've stayed on the islands. Peaceful location, great view, great place. Apart for the usual hustle and bustle of tourists. Great relaxing home base to explore the island. We're already plotting our return!
We really enjoyed our stay at the condo. It was so clean and comfortable. We spent most of our time on the large, screened lanai. It has a spectacular view that goes all the way from the mountain to the ocean. Along with the spectacular view, we saw beautiful rainbows almost every evening while we were there. It was so relaxing, we could have stayed for a month.
Renowned Kealakekua Bay and Place of Refuge National Park are just below this unique property. A short 12 min. drive will put you at the waters edge. Kayak over the the Captain Cook monument, have lunch and snorkel along the coast line for unbelievable views of beautiful fish, eels, turtles and frolicking dolphins if your lucky.
Visit a coffee farm, botanical garden and have dinner at the renowned Keei Cafe.
