Fantastic place, great weather superb food
Villa was really nice, clean, lots of space and the owners where on hand when needed. Good location for Jimena and San Pablo.
Perfect in every sense!
What a fantastic property and fantastic owners. The location of the villa is idyllic very peaceful and relaxing, ideal for those looking to chill with family. The layout is great with all amenities to a great standard and the pool was perfect for my young daughters to play in after a day exploring. And explore you can, the nearest town Jemina is a beautiful typical Spanish town with a castle (first place to explore) overlooking the area. If you fancy a nature walk trails are available starting from the town, for horse riding there are options a short drive away. Further afield the stunning town if Ronda is 1hr away across stunning scenery. As for beaches the malaga coastline has a range of family friendly beaches, but our favourite were the surf coastline of Tarifa with its endless sandy beaches great fun if the surf is up. As for the owners Cati and Jesus were extremely accommodating and I have to thank Cati very kindly posted my wallet back to me in the UK after I'd left it in the villa, kind of thing that could ruin your stay but happily my family and I have only wonderful memories and I can heartily recommend this villa for a family holiday.
Peaceful and relaxing
We have been visiting Jimena/San Pablo for 2 weeks in October and February for the past 7 years. Last year we decided to spend 4 months from November to February there and we found Villa Cati - what a find!
The villa is on a back road (tarmac not dirt!) between San Pablo and Los Angeles where the traffic is mainly tractors pulling trailers full of oranges. The villa itself is not just a holiday let, it is a real home with all the facilities and equipment you need and all well maintained and clean.
There is private parking with an electric gate and plenty of outdoor euqipment for children (trampoline, basketball net, goal posts and golf clubs). The swimming pool at that time of year was a bit too cold to use but was cleaned etc. throughout our stay - just in case!
The bed linen and towels were all of a very high standard and Cati and Jesus (the owners) responded to any queries we had extremely quickly and efficiently.
It is about half an hours walk into San Pablo for supermarket, chemist, market, restaurants and bars plus - in the summer - swimming in the river. Jimena is about ten minutes by car and has some superb restaurants (make sure you go to El Ventorillero) and lovely walks in the Alcornocales National Park.
It is a lovely drive to Ronda, or you can take the train - a very impressive journey whichever you choose. Tarifa on the coast is approximately an hour's drive and it is well worth going to watch all the kite surfers. Gibraltar is also worth a visit but only if you want the hustle and bustle and miss McDonalds and the British shops.
Personally we love the Spanish way of life, the Spanish people's friendliness and the Spanish food. We will definitely be visiting Villa Cati again.
Villa Cati is located between the white villages of Jimena de la Frontera and San Pablo in orange groves, the smell wonderful in winter and spring. In both villages, there are many charming tapas bars and restaurants. In San Pablo (within walking distance) the Venta La Acacia (Restaurant) organized Andalusian barbecues in the summer on the weekends. The inn (La Estacion) at the station provides wonderful Andalusian nouvelle cuisine. In addition to the private pool at the Finca you can swim in San Pablo in the river Hozgarganta or public outdoor pool.
In both villages you find mom and pop shops, self-service market with butcher counter and bakery, where delicious Tortas de Jimena are baked. Jimena (10 minute drive) is since 1983 listed building and attracts by its Moorish castle dating from the 8th century. And the traditional architecture of the visitors under its spell. Here a path begins by the newly created Botanical Garden of Jimena and through shady forests with spectacular views of the wild and romantic valley of Hozgarganta River, which invites for swimming from May to August.
Jimena is adjacent to the Natural Park of the cork oak forests (Parque de los Alcornocales), which has the largest closed cork oak forest in Europe with its 170 000 hectares, is very rich in water and many botanical peculiarities beherbert: orchids, laurel forests of the Tertiary, rare ferns ... etc , and rare animals such. B. Mongoose (only European mongoose), genet, otter, badgers and wild (red and fallow deer, wild boar and mouflon). In the autumn and winter months, Jimena has become the center of the mushroom walks.
Both villages are far from the beaten track and have therefore preserved its Andalusian flavor, with colorful fiestas and flamenco competitions in summer. Also Mule tournaments and Korkschneiderwettbewerbe there in Jimena. People interested in archeology visit the Bronze Age Höhler paintings in the 'Laja Alta'. In the monastery 'Nuestra Señora de los Angeles' 15th century takes place once a pilgrimage each year.
Friday is the weekly market in Jimena on which you get vegetables, fruit and all kinds of seasonal citrus fruits and delicious olives and nuts as well as the famous churros, lard baked yeast dough rings with dark, warm chocolate sauce. At night you promenading on the Alameda or Plaza, the center of village life in Andalusia.
