Idyllic. Peaceful. Well worth it.
Amazing location with wonderful hosts. The house was immaculate, spacious and well kitted out with everything you need. Loads of things to do for the kids. Close to a range of great swimming spots. We'll definitely be back.
Excellent location, great facilities
Really enjoyed our stay here in a beautiful part of the Bay of Islands. Sue and James were excellent hosts, and their property is stunning. Peaceful and relaxing, this place is a great way to recharge and unwind. Great views out over the bay, and lots of space to relax and play. Brilliant.
Super location and incredible property
Super location and incredible property. House and sleepout were spotless and have lovely beds, linen and towels. Well equipt kitchen to cater for a large number of guests. Loads of fridge and freezer space.
We had a boat and launching from the property was great, plenty of fresh snapper caught just out in the bay!
This property is fantastic for kids with plenty to do exploring the beachfront at low tide, enjoying the swings on the big shady lawn or swimming at Jills Bay (10 mins walk away).
It was a perfect place to enjoy Xmas with family and friends...
It was a perfect place to enjoy Xmas with family and friends a historic homestead full of charm and with all the mod cons. The photos on the website does not do it justice, we enjoyed having our meals on the veranda admiring the view of the estuary and then going out for a kayak in the estuary. The Kitchen is very well equipped to prepare a meal for large groups. We all enjoyed sliding into quality sheets for a good night sleep. Very well set up for children, many swings, games and books.
Clendon Lodge is located at Manawaora which is about half way between Russell and Rawhiti and can be accessed by a rural-coastal scenic route (visit Helena Bay Gallery and Cafe) or by state highways and the Opua-Okiato car ferry. A stop at the famous Hunderwasser Toilets and Railway at Kawakawa are worth stopping for.
Clendon Lodge Homestead in Clendon Cove which is part of Manawaora Bay is one of the oldest houses in NZ and was built by Englishman James Clendon in 1839-40.
The recommended routes are all tar sealed. There is a large well serviced marina at Opua. The nearest swimming beach is a few minutes walk away at Jills Bay next to Jacks Bay. Its just a few km to a Kauri forest. There is all tide boat launching at Te Uenga about 5km away.
Recommended nearby beaches include Oke Bay and Elliot Bay (surfing).
