Our little house is perfect for a relaxing holiday at the beach. A shepherds cottage in it's past life, it's beach theme and bunting is sure to put you into the holiday mood. Open-plan with a great indoor/outdoor flow, the deck is ideal for breakfasts or late evening meals. A side verandah creates a lovely through breeze on those hot days.
The house has a well-stocked games cupboard, and it's own set of 'Kubb". The large grass section makes an ideal pitch, as well as good off-street parking. We have a Weber BBQ, which makes cooking outside a breeze.
Ideally situated, it is only a 5 minute walk from our house to the sweeping sands and safe swimming of Mahia Beach. A short walk up the beach will bring you to The Beach Cafe, where you can enjoy one of their wonderful coffee's and a little something from the delicious selection of home-made treats. On the way home, call in at The Mahia Store for a paper, and back to the bach to park up under a tree - you're on holiday remember!!
During the summer season, a Sunday market is held on the seafront, selling a wide variety of local goods, including artisan crafts, bric a brac, and fresh produce.
The peninsula is blessed with spectacular scenery and the rocky shelves and coastal vistas of Te Mahia make a particularly stunning drive. Follow the directions on our map and take in the picturesque Whangawehi Inlet and the historical Coronation Reserve with it's hollowed rock baptismal font. Hiding among the rocks there are crabs a plenty, while rock pools teem with life. For the fisherman, Snapper Rock offers a great spot to cast a line.
Just a short, 20 minute scenic drive from Mahia are The Morere Hot Springs. Bush walks, public and private hot pools, volley ball and BBQ facilities with adjacent Store and Cafe, make this well worth a visit.
