Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday chateau / country house in Botiza - Dream houses

Charming house with ambience and a beautiful terrace

With a floor area of 100 sq.m, Casa Cosma offers a comfortable holiday home for four people. The 150-year-old house was restored from the ground up in 2008, and adapted to its current needs. You will reach the house through a beautiful, original wooden gate from Maramureș. The house itself is situated on the southern slope of a 7,000-sq.m property with a lovely fruit orchard and a gorgeous view.

On the ground floor, the house has a dining room and kitchen with a nice sitting area and kitchen furniture made of solid wood. The living room is comfortable, with modern furnishings, and retains its particular tone with traditional handmade art. There is also a fine shower bath, whose combination of old and new elements give it an individual character. There are two comfortable bedrooms on the upper level, each for two people.

The traditional Maramureș terrace with its carvings and benches is located in front of the house. From this location you have a gorgeous view of the Rodna and Tibles mountains and of both sides of the valley in which the estate is situated.

Casa Cosma is an ideal point of departure for nature lovers, hunters, and hikers who want to explore the pristine surroundings. Excursions to monasteries and historical wooden churches are ideal destinations, as well as the museums and markets in Sighethu and the surrounding villages.

Guided hikes, carriage rides, hunting and riding are just some of the leisure activities that you can participate in here.

A housekeeper can provide support with any concerns. From the washing to shopping and even an evening barbecue, Carmen is there with advice and assistance. The neighbours Mihai and Florentina are happy to provide milk, cheese, and eggs - everything 'facut a casa' (homemade) and one hundred percent organic.

The surrounding meadows and the entire countryside is cut yearly by hand. Because of this, rare and protected plants can be found, such as orchids, wild gladiolas, carnivorous plants, cottongrass, and many others. The fauna is also impressive, with bears, wolves, lynx, deer, roe, wild cats, eagles, and a variety of other rare birds, such as hoopoes and orioles. An unbelievable diversity of butterfly and beetle species abounds in the area.

With Botiza Fond, our community foundation, we support ecological, social, and cultural projects in Botiza. We would be happy to let you know more.

Better Than Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Lilli and Volker have created something magical in Casa Cosma. We were looking for an authentic rural house in Maramures. Cosma did not disappoint. Up until our 'discovery' here on HomeAway, only Europeans seemed to have found their way to this gem of a house. Now I hope more North Americans will follow us there.

The description and photos were representative, but the reality is better.

We loved the attention to preservation of the original design while adding modern conveniences.

If you want to go to sleep to the sounds of horse carts carrying their load of hay and wake up with the roosters, you'll love Cosma.

If you want to shop the village market; cook your own meals; have the neighbor deliver fresh warm milk and eggs every morning; watch the bees gather pollen in a garden full of wildflowers; and wonder pot-holed back roads then welcome to paradise.

Excellent historic wooden house in dream village

  • 5 of 5

For the sixt year on a row Maramures has been a marvellous place to spend a holiday - weather is is the friendly people, the fairytale landscapes, the divine attention to traditions, the picturesque villages, or probably the combination of the above, we love Maramures and certainly will be back again soon.

Especially if Casa Cosma is available; for the first time we were able to find the perfect spot: a private house with loads of caracter and history, whilst having the comforts of home. Please Lilli and Volkert, continue your beautiful activities in favour of the village of Botiza and all who gather there ! Thank you for having us !

The reception was warm; everything that could be done for welcoming us was done without hesitation. Great environment, great hosts, great excursion with a local guide. Greatly recommended, ***** !

Herzliche Menschen! Tolles Haus!

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Also von uns 5 Sterne plus.....

Back to Botiza....

Herzlichen Dank und viele Grüße

Corina, David und Stefan aus Stuttgart

Casa Cosma is a traditional Maramureș house, built on a sunny property somewhat removed from the street. It is part of the 'Scimbare la Fata' residence, newly built in the village of Botiza. The village, with 3,500 inhabitants, is located in a county (or judeţ, in Romanian) of Maramureș district. Its altitude is some 700 m above sea level. The Hungarian border is situated 150 km away, while it is 30 km to Ukraine. Sighetu Marmației is the nearest city (about 38 km away). The nearest airports are in Baia Mare (also known by its German name, Frauenbach, and about 80 km away) or Cluj (German Klausenburg, 170 km). Nearby: Visit Rodna and the Maramureș National Park at a distance of 15 km as the crow flies.

Botiza is an ideal place for nature lovers, or those looking for relaxation, culture, hiking or hunting. From here, you can explore the Carpathian Mountains, go on excursions to the monasteries and adventure to the wooden churches of Maramureș, or just enjoy the country living and peace. Travelling and vacationing families with children are most welcome here.

A lovely view of the Rodna and Tibles mountains in the distance evoke a feeling of vastness, wilderness, and peace.
