Bach or holiday home, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, (Sleeps 9)
Our family has owned this property since the early 1960s. The cottage was built from mature macrocarpa trees planted by our dad on his farm. We would spend most of our summers staying at Mangakuri, dad coming and going a bit with haymaking, shearing and pea harvests demanding attention. Blissful summers - the days were ruled by the low tides when we would explore the rock pools, splash widly in the warm tidal pools, catch reef fish, crayfish and snorkel for paua. It hasnt changed for us except for the depletion of seafood. We love the beach and the bach - it is our family's gathering place as often as we can.

Fabulous to get off the grid, hear the sea and explore the rock pools. Everything a family needs in the house.
Proper kiwi bach
Like staying at a friends bach
Great little Kiwi bach
Nice little place with everything we needed.
Beautiful and secluded
Lovely spot and not commercialized
Fantastic house and location
We loved everything about this place - the beach, the house, the remoteness...it is exactly as listed. Thanks Margot, we will definitely be back!
Hawkes Bay's best kept secret
We loved our stay from the moment we arrived until we left the property. The pictures do not do this place justice and the location is fantastic. Really safe for kids. Thank you for sharing your slice of paradise with us Margot and Family. Noho ora mai
Wonderful comments thanks. It's better a bit downplayed (underpictured!) I because then people feel good about it! But was not intentional and we may well get some better pics this year when we are out there.
Thrilled you so enjoyed your stay and look forward to you coming back.

Remote. Magical. Bring all the food you need - closest shop is 40km away!
Stay two nights and feel like you've been away a week! Swim. Talk. Fish. Eat. Curl up in a beanbag in the sun & get lost in that good book you've been waiting to read. Play board games. Explore rock pools at low tide with your kids - and great snorkeling: be careful of the marine life and turn every rock back over the way you found it! Walk to Pyramid Rock at the south end of the beach. Snug up to the fire in winter and have a toasty-hot bath outside under the stars. Not many places on the planet where you can do all this with no interruptions!
The kitchen is stocked with the usual utensils and there is a fridge-freezer and an oven (the solid old kind!).
Note that this is a well-loved family beach cottage built in the 60s and iconic for the era. It is a bach in the kiwi sense rather than a modern day apartment or town house!
Please don't wander in the paddock at the back (it is private farmland) and if you have a dog please make sure she/he doesn't!
