About this property

The true kiwi bach experience,5 meters from the coastline

Russ Bach

A rare find today, Russ bach is located within 5 metres of the Pacific Ocean. Historically it was built by Russ Broughton, a fisherman at Glenburn for some 40 years. Typically for that time, it started as a 2 bedroom whare, which has been added on to over the years, now it can sleep 10 people in 3 rooms. The kitchen/ dining room has 2 separate bedrooms along one wall, with double beds, a door on to the porch leads you into a bigger room that has 2 single beds and 2 bunk beds. This room acts as the lounge as well, with 3 cane chairs and a coffee table, a TV is hung on the wall for DVDs , and an assortment of books, magazines and games sits beneath it.

The toilet is adjacent to the main building and is separate from the shower and vanity. Another outside door leads to a small shed.
Outside is a wooden hexagonal table with seating and 3 scattered wooden chairs. Situated very handily is a heavy table especially suitable for gutting fish etc. A tap and hose are right there to clean up the area at completion.
Russ has a BBQ with gas supplied and a wood burner for heating is situated in the kitchen / dining room.

Russ has NO washing machine but a small clothesline for drying towels etc is handy.

No dogs allowed at Glenburn due to the danger of spreading sheep measles to our sheep flock.

Glenburn operates an enviro- friendly policy, rubbish must be taken with you on leaving, a recycling depo is on the way to Masterton. Food leftovers can be used as pig food.

Glenburn is a working sheep, cattle and deer farm, we ask guests to take care to leave gates as they find them and to be careful not to disturb stock especially around August and September when they are lambing and calving.
South of Russ¿s Bach, at Long Point is a seal colony and beyond on the shoreline is Honeycomb Rock, a Doc owned walking track which starts at the end of the public road by the entrance to Glenburn¿s buildings

Glenburn is one hour from the nearest town of Masterton, it has some 27 kms of gravel road which is frequently used by logging trucks, special care should be taken at all times.

Cell phone coverage is patchy at best.

Glenburn stay
Hello Helen, Thank you for having us stay. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - such a cool spot. Apart from the bach being very difficult to locate and a bit dirty, everything else was great and we will definitely be back! Kind regards, Nadège

Relaxing escape from the city
Thanks John and Helen, we had such a lovely time staying at your incredible property. Middle of winter and a southerly storm, but we were kept nice and cosy with the fire and stocked firewood. Can’t wait to return in summer to do some fishing :)

Authentic and charming Bach
As a family we love Russ’s Bach. We try to go every year and it always gives us wonderful memories. It’s the real deal, classic kiwi Bach. The rugged coast and the seals are wonderful to watch while you either have a bbq or sit in front of the fire. 5 stars!
