Mixed emotions
The communication with the owner was excellent, and started a few weeks out. Responsive and informative about the area. He met us also at a recommended grocery store with a welcome gift; nice touch. Upon arrival at the property the immediate impression was of a rustic property with first impression kind of unkempt. Lots of blankets on furniture which looked kind of old and maybe needed a good dry cleaning. Kitchen was clean. As a non Kiwi, we had to pay for sheets/towels/kitchen towels. I didn't realize we're also responsible for soaps of all kinds, toilet and kitchen paper. In fairness it was explained in the booklet with one of his emails which I DIDN'T read closely enough. This an important consideration if you're flying in from somewhere. We couldn't immediately figure out which sheets were clean as there were various already on the beds. seems like you also need to make your own bed. water conservation stressed before and during the stay. Fair enough although buckets in the showers were at first a bit intimidating. And then the home closing work assignments about vacuuming etc. was a bit over the top. I think maybe cleanliness impression is up to performance of the previous guest. So, awesome location! Super communicative and friendly owner. Comfortable beds and kudos for the environmental responsibility.

Purau Bay Air B&B
Our party of 4 retired women attending a Teddington Easter weekend event enjoyed staying at a comfortable, three-bedroom house with plenty of beds and kitchen/dining room/lounge facilities for four guests. The view across the harbour to Lyttelton was a real plus. Generous outdoor furniture offered aided our options to eat and read outdoors during sunny weather.

New Year's Stay with Partner & Friends
Myself, my partner and some of our friends stayed here over the New Year's period. We enjoyed our stay here as the property was across from the beach, there was a BBQ, and plenty of areas to sit and relax. The property has lots of lawn/garden space for games e.g frisbee. It was also relatively clean on arrival but there were some cobwebs on the ceiling upstairs, although I can imagine they would be hard to get. Also, initially when I had booked, I had booked to stay on different days and had already paid for our stay there with those dates. Later on, I was contacted that we had been double booked with another group..which was disappointing to hear (esp since we'd paid and confirmed it with our group). However, we did still have a really good time at the Bach and managed to enjoy ourselves. We loved how close it was to the beach and we also had good fish n chips nearby. Thanks for letting us stay.
