About this property

Rotoiti Cottage - St Arnaud

This cosy cottage is nestled in native bush just 5 minutes walk from beautiful Lake Rotoiti, a favourite spot for sailing, fishing, swimming and other water-sports. The cottage has a sunroom, which looks out to the St Arnaud range close by rising to over 1,800m and the lounge has a log burner for keeping snug. There is an abundance of short walks and tramps, some of which offer spectacular views. Close by is one of New Zealand’s ‘Land Islands’, being an area where intensive predator control has resulted in an abundance of birdlife.
For the more energised, the park offers a wide range of tramping experience, ranging from short day trips to expeditions of several days with ample alpine experience for those who want it.
There are mountain bike trails, a gliding club, a golf course, and hunting opportunities, all nearby.
Lake Rotoiti is close to Rainbow skifield, the Marlborough wine region, and Nelson. It is under 2 hours drive to the Picton ferry, and less than 1 ½ hours to Nelson and Blenheim airports.
While we allow pets, please note that these are forbidden from the adjacent National Park.

The cottage is ‘winterised’ from April to October, REQUIRING GUESTS to follow a clearly documented list of instructions on ARRIVING and LEAVING for draining the water system.

There is a well equipped shop in the village, a short walk away.

rustic retreat
The bach is rustic but lovely - feels like stepping back in time. Beautiful setting and really everything we needed was there. And it was great to find somewhere we could have the dog stay too.

Unsanitary and grim
Location is great but I doubt it's legal to rent out accommodation with mold growing in multiple rooms. I might look into this in the future as I think the refund policy is pretty unfair given the state of the place. It looked like it hasn't had a thorough clean in a decade. We found the place too grim and grotty to be able to enjoy our stay and wished we'd bought a tent we could have put up in the garden instead as my partner couldn't stop sneezing the whole time, but we didn't have the funds to go elsewhere at such short notice.
