The GATE COTTAGE is situated in the grounds of a private country house, up a drive of about 200 yards. It has its own peaceful, large garden, mainly grass, which is safely enclosed making it suitable for small children and dogs. (approx. 15 x 35 metres).
The tile-hung cottage is very small and was originally built in 1911 for “Willie” the coachman.
It is cosily furnished with floral country prints and colours, fitted carpets and a mixture of furniture making it a very restful place to stay. The whole estate covers an area of 28 acres and visitors have the use of part of the grounds including the hard tennis court, grass badminton court and our indoor heated swimming pool and sauna, jacuzzi.
Myself and my partner were looking for a competitively priced cottage holiday as bad weather ruled out our original plan to go camping for the week. Therefore we had a limited budget and wanted a holiday which would provide us with things to do. We chose Gate Cottage at Pekes as the website listed our key requirements of swimming pool and tennis court. We were not disappointed and the cottage was absolutely superb. The cottage is clean and has a decent/comfortable bed. A working open fire provides a romantic addition to the normal central heating system (£2 per bag for logs). However the best point of the estate (in which Gate cottage is located) is the indoor tropical swimming pool. It really is just like the pictures on the website and is a great place for adults or children. The Tennis and Badminton court also provides great sporting activites for the family. Due to the location, there are many walks surrounding the estate most with on-route pubs - which we enjoyed walking to and staggering back from!. We also used Glebe Field Riding School which is a 5 minute drive and was a fun activity for the morning. The picturesque towns of Rye and Lewes are nearby providing a nice day out. For those looking for a more vibrant town there is Brighton. I would recommend the cottage on the grounds it is competitively priced with many on-site activities which are ideal for families or sporty/outdoor adults. as well as the cottage being ideally located for decent day drips. We had a really lovely week and no doubt we shall return.
