We (Betty and Mary, we are sisters) purchased the mansion in 1986 and have many wonderful and loving memories living there and raising Mary’s daughter Sarah in the home. Betty worked at State Nursery in floral design and Mary graduated from Carroll College. Circumstances led the two of us in different directions, Betty to Las Vegas where she continues her career in floral design and Mary to Idaho where she continues her career in social work. We leased the big house for several years to families and in 2007 decided to do her justice by turning her into a vacation rental and at that time she became Helena’s Little Mansion. We hired many skilled laborers and local craftsman to help us do everything which we were unable to in the time we had.
Betty and Mary purchased this house in 1986
We had a brother and family members that lived in Helena, we fell in love with the area from the easy access to the many lakes, hiking trails, Gates of the Mountains, The Great Divide ski area, Reeder's Alley, Last Chance Gulch, the Cathedral and Marysville the local ghost town with a great restaurant called the Marysville House. We liked living in the State Capital and the small town feel where you know your neighbors and the clerks at the grocery store.
Helena's Little Mansion is a beautiful mansion and the woodwork is beyond comparison in the area. It is a wonderful experience to stay in such a unique vintage home. Each window provides a panoramic view of the valley, Mount Helena and the Sleeping Giant.
My girlfriend and I stayed here last month, and will certainly be making it our annual retreat.
Every last detail has been thought of with this home. As a business traveler, I was a bit skeptical about internet access in Montana, but I have to admit, my fears were unfounded.
Owner, Mary Smith was very accommodating of our special requests, and a great source of local knowledge.
Each of the rooms are perfectly appointed. The home is very clean. The kitchen is great too. We had a barbecue one night out on the patio... Such a refreshing change from eating out every night.
Nearby to downtown, so we took the Montana mansion tour - even saw the governor's old mansion. Canyon Ferry lake the next day was stunning as well. The Gates of the Mountains are a must see!
I would recommend this property to everyone.
We stayed here for a weekend, and it was perfect. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were comfortable, and we saw several deer in the backyard a few times. My 3-year-old daughter thought it was a beautiful castle! We will definitely be staying there again.
I was in Helena for my mother's 90th birthday with my two adult children, their spouses and my 4 grandchildren. The home we originally had rented was all of the sudden unavailable the day before we were to arrive. Betty and Mary were so accommodating. They figured out how to turn the house quickly after the previous guest checked out so that we had a place to stay. We enjoyed the house so much. Lots of room for the 9 of us and great porch, patio and yard for the kids to play in. The kids loved the 3rd level bedroom hideout. It was in the upper 90s the 4 days we were there and the air conditioning was a lifesaver. We had other family members over for meals and to visit and there was lots of room for everyone. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit.
The Little Mansion shown very large for us and we can't say enough about how enjoyable our stay was. We were in town for a wedding and all the other family members were in hotels. This home gave us a very comfortable place to have the family all together with space to visit either on the deck or in the dinning room. The deck had remarkable sun rises and great access to hiking Mt Helena out the front. Several of the group hiked the mountain and found their way directly to down town where we met for food and drinks to recharge. The beds and bedding in the house were 4 star and I don't remember when I've slept so well in unfamiliar surroundings. The house had A/C but it was rare that we needed it as the weather was fabulous, cooling down nicely at night and bright and sunny during the day. The next time we are going to Helena we will definitely be looking to stay here! Again, I can't say enought great things about the house and how helpful the owners are. Highly Recommended.
We booked this beautiful home for a week as we had people coming from all over the U.S. for our fathers funeral. We had ten people staying there, with more family members coming and going. We were so happy to have had such a nice place to use as our home for the week. It is spacious and has a beautiful big well stocked kitchen. We were able to cook all of our meals there and had some wonderful dinners in the awesome dining room. We never felt crowded. The front and back porches were wonderful to sit and visit on too. Very clean and well kept. Mary and Betty are very nice and obviously have a lot of pride in the home. Very nice yard, in a quite neighborhood. I would highly recomend this property.
10 of my out-of-state family members recently stayed 3 nights in this lovely home. The Victorian ambiance was cozy and clean, the kitchen was well-stocked with utensils and dishes, the covered deck off the kitchen was lovely for barbecuing, and the location under Mount Helena was beautiful. Several of our folks loved that they could go for a run or hike, with a trail head a few blocks up the street! The Victorian staircase is lovely and has 4 short flights. It may not be for everyone, but my young niece-in-law, who uses a wheelchair but can walk with some assistance, actually was able to use the stairs because of the low risers in the steps. She also has a licensed service dog and Betty, my owner/contact, was very friendly and hospitable, especially as regards this situation. My family would stay here again for sure!
