Beachfront holiday house in Valtos, Uig with stunning views.

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Spacious holiday house with stunning views on the beautiful Valtos Peninsula. Sleeps 7 in 4 bedrooms. Fully equipped kitchen, cosy sitting room with wood-burning stove, 2 bathrooms, conservatory. 1 minute walk to beach and pier, with many other beautiful beaches within easy reach. Family and pet friendly, the house is perfect for bird watchers, nature lovers, beachcombers, sandcastle builders, kayakers and hardy swimmers!

Liona-Tuim is a much loved holiday home that has been in our family for over 40 years. Sitting just above the beach in the village of Valtos, the house provides the perfect base for exploring the beautiful area of Uig with its huge white sandy beaches, imposing mountains, and varied wildlife, as well as for further adventures such as boat trips to the islands or visits to the Standing Stones at Callanish, the Iron Age broch at Carloway or the Black House village at Gearrannan.

The house is comfortable and well equipped. Downstairs there is a cosy kitchen heated by a Rayburn stove (with an additional electric oven for the more conventional cook!), and including a fridge, dishwasher and bread maker. The round table seats 7 comfortably.

The sitting room has a wood burning stove, TV and DVD player together with a selection of games, puzzles and books for relaxing after a hard day's exploration.

A small study includes a desk and the Captain's Bunk - an old ship's bed popular with young nautical adventurers. Free wifi is provided but we recommend you use it for checking the weather forecast rather than catching up with work!

A conservatory which catches the evening sun, perfect for a cup of tea or something stronger while you read a book or play a game.

A downstairs shower room allows for post-beach clean ups, and a bright and spacious studio is perfect for playing games. The workshop has room for boots and coats and houses the washing machines, tumble dryer and freezer.

Upstairs there are three comfortable bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin) and a bathroom including a bath and power shower. All linens and towels are provided.

2 well-behaved dogs allowed for a small additional cleaning charge.

The house is approximately 5 miles from the well-stocked local community shop, which includes a post-office and petrol station. The town of Stornoway is a 45 minute drive away, and from here supermarket deliveries can be arranged.

Why Kate Pettifer chose Isle of Lewis

Our parents bought Liona-Tuim when we were tiny children and all our childhood summers were spent in the house, playing on Valtos beach, sailing and kayaking around islands and catching fish for supper. After retirement our parents moved to the island full time, and spent 15 years living in Valtos and making Liona-Tuim the comfortable family home it has become. Over the years we have brought our own children to Liona-Tuim every summer and watched them discovering the magic of a holiday in the Scottish islands, as we did ourselves all those years ago! When our parents moved back to the mainland at the end of last year we became the proud new owners of Liona-Tuim, and are looking forward to many more years of adventures in Valtos.

Homely base to explore the island

The property is comfortable, well appointed and located within a 1 minute walk to a beautiful and almost always deserted beach. There are two other stunning beaches within walking distance and the relatively close proximity to the scallop shack was a much enjoyed bonus.

Comfortable family house, great location, right on the beach.

  • 4 of 5

Our week long stay at this lovely comfortable house combined with glorious weather, will be with us for a long time. The location, about 45 minutes from Stornoway is breathtaking, and the house is a stone's throw from Valtos beach. The longer Riof beach is a 10 minute walk over the hill. The house is warm, and the kitchen cosy with a Raeburn providing plenty of very hot water, and unlimited hilarity. If you are not used to cooking on a range it will take some getting used to. Also a rather idiosyncrativ electric hob. Plenty room for us all to have quiet time, and for my sister's family of 4 (who were staying in the neighbouring hamlet Cnip) to join us for evening meals.

A great place to get away from it all, and to enjoy the beauty and peace of the Hebrides.

And I saw a Corncrake!

Wonderful family home in a great location.

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this home which had a lovely family feel to it. We enjoyed the kitchen so much that the dining room became the jigsaw room and all meals were eaten at the kitchen table. Loved being able to wonder down to the beach and to watch the sea and the birds from the kitchen window. Wonderful views from the bedrooms. The weather was cold and windy so really appreciated the wood burner. Very well equipped and a great place to stay. Scallops from the nearby Scallop Shack were wonderful and the oysters rated as the best ever!

Absolutely wonderful, a very magical place.

  • 5 of 5

I used to live in this area, but even so, I had no idea how amazing the location of this house is. With two small grandchildren, having the lovely safe beach within seconds from the house is really amazing. We were helped of course by the most wonderful weather. Cold, but bright and sunny.

We felt immediately at home, it is so obvious that we were stepping into a happy family home. I renewed my love of cooking on a Rayburn, which also kept the kitchen warm and inviting. In the sitting room a multi fuel stove made the rest of the house cozy too.

There is plenty of room for six people, with a choice of sitting rooms even the Grandpa could easily find a quiet spot to read if he wanted to.

A variety of well stocked bookshelves and a huge selection of puzzles and jigsaws would provide entertainment for a bit of downtime or if the weather is too bad to venture out. Although, if you are an ‘outdoors’ type of family, as we are, then that is rare.

The beds are comfy, showers and bathrooms well thought out. The kitchen equipment is plentiful and everything you could need is provided. Including recipe books.

We had a problem with the dishwasher, which was immediately resolved and the owner Kate was very easily contactable by email during our stay.

I can honestly say, none of us wanted to leave and we can’t wait to go back.

Thank you so much.

House was fantastic had absolutly everything you could possibley need and more besides very comfortable beds Rayburn cooker kept the house toasty warm could not have had a better setting just a short stroll to the beach , the white sandy beaches are georgeus ,we went on a boat trip with Hebridean whale cruises which we would highly recomend and saw common dolphins, white beaked dolphins , minke whale, diving gannets ,puffins . A week is not long enough to explore all of Lewis and Harris so we will definatly be returning .
