About Drs P and B Wallis
The Wallis family come from Solihull, in the West Midlands and are now living in Suffolk and London. We (Mum and Dad) are retired doctors. We have 3 children - 2 are junior doctors and the youngest is a physicist. We have an enthusiastic and doting cocker spaniel called Polly. We have overseen the restoration of the charming old farmhouse formerly known to us as 'il ruin' to a lovely family holiday retreat using local architect & builders. They have done a magnificent job and have recovered the old Marchegiani appearance of the farmhouse and have added the usual mod cons! With the help of Fabricia (house keeper), Mario (gardener) and Andrea (pool engineer) we have a perfect holiday retreat and have enjoyed many holidays with family and friends in summer spring and winter. Several recently married couples have 'honeymooned' in this lovely setting. It is a perfect spot to de-stress, keep fit and soak up the local culture and ambience.
Drs P and B Wallis purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Drs P and B Wallis chose San Ginesio
We fell in love with the property and stumbled on it quite by chance. There has been a farmhouse here for hundreds of years and when we arrived it had been derelict for 80 years or so. Nature had reclaimed the surrounding hillside fields. We arrived for our first viewing through the woodland on the back of a tractor, but there is now secure access by unmetalled chalk road. The house has a stunning location on the edge of the village of Necciano with views of the Sibillini mountains. We love nature, walking and local culture and have found the local village residents and farmers welcoming, friendly and helpful. The property was fully rebuilt and restored in 2007-8 with anti-seismic specification. There have been no significant structural problems during the recent earthquakes affecting central Italy (2016)
What makes this Villa unique

Heaven ! Fantastic place to relaxe
The place was delightful. We had a great time last summer. If you need a place to relaxe, if you love the nature and beautyful countrylife and if you not look for annoying nightlife and bars next to your holidayhome, you definitely should choose Casa Ciclamini. It is a wonderful restored beautyful house just as shown at pictures, with a huge garden and a nice pool. The kitchen is well equipped and the house clean and really nice. You need a car to go to the next supermarket and restaurants, but this is no big deal. I promise you will love the property. The owner and the housekeeper are very nice persons. We will come back soon !
Thank you for you kind review so happy you enjoyed your stay.
Wonderful holiday retreat
We enjoyed the house, the garden and the pool that are very spacious and very well maintained. The large kitchen is fully equipped to make meals for a large number of guests. Which is a good thing, since the house is a bit remote and you don't want to drive to a restaurant every night. Particularly in October, many restaurants are closed for the season, but there are enough stores around to purchase wonderful hand-made pasta, black truffles and great prosciutto !
Beautiful setting with great views, it was a little too chilly to use the pool but we managed it. The fenced garden is a bonus and the house large enough for family and friends to share without getting under each others feet.
Thank you for being lovely guests Look forward to seeing you again.
The restored ancient farmhouse is set in a small village in a rural location on the edge of the Monti Sibilini national park. The property provides a quiet woodland retreat in the beautiful Le Marche countryside with stunning views of the Monti Sibillini Apennine mountain range. The nearby San Ginesio is an historic hill top town with a rich cultural and artistic programme. There are many local amenities in and around the town including bars and restaurants as well as theatre/concert venue, churches, museums, renaissance art, and archeological sites.
The Monti Sibillini national park provides superb mountain and lakeland scenery which can be accessed by car, cycle or on foot. There are many designated cycle, hiking and walking routes which cater for the adventurous to the gentle explorer as well as the nature lover.
There are beautiful beaches within an hour's drive from the property, including sandy beach resorts at, for example, Civitanova / Porto San Giorgio or resorts with stunning cliff top scenery in the Monte Conero area.
Local medieval hilltop towns are fascinating and well worth a visit, including San Ginesio, Sarnano, Gualdo, Belforte, Caldarola etc.
Regional towns contain a wealth of interest including Macerata (Sferisterio open air opera), Ascoli Piceno, Camerino, Tolentino.
The Pollenza vineyard at nearby Tolentino is well worth a visit.
Whilst there is lots to do and see in and around San Ginesio, many guests will wish to relax and enjoy the quiet woodland location by the pool at Casa Ciclamini. The old farmhouse is set in 15 hectares (45 acres) of unspoilt woodland and has a beautiful terrace and garden with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and Monti Sibillini mountain range. It is a quiet location and a nature lover's and bird watcher's dream, with enchanting paths and walks in and around the property. Wild cyclamen are to be found in the adjacent woodland in spring. In the autumn, black truffles can be found by those who are familiar with the art of truffle (tartufo) hunting. Those of a more leisurely disposition can enjoy the view and warmth from the shade of a garden tree or gently snooze in a hammock; there are magnificent oaks, elms, walnut and fig trees in and around the garden.
The old farmhouse has been restored to it's former classic Le Marche rural appearance with charming oak and pine beamed ceilings and tiled/oak panelled floors. The rooms have views of the surrounding fields, woods and hills and there is a lovely shaded veranda for eating outside. The house is well equipped and 3 of the 4 bedrooms have ensuite bathroom/shower facilities. There is a large kitchen / dining room and sitting room up and downstairs. Upstairs also leads on to a small sun terrace with views of the garden, pool and surrounding hills.
There is a lovely swimming pool (12 x 7m) in full view of the patio and kitchen area, with steps at the shallow end (1m) and a standing ledge all around the pool including the deep end (2m). Summer water temperature varies from 24 - 28C. Please note, there is no surrounding pool fence and so young children must be supervised in the garden at all times.
Star gazers will be pleased to know that there is very little light pollution and thus the first floor terrace offers fine views of the night sky. There are binos to hand if needed.
Winter holiday makers might enjoy fine views of the snow capped Sibillini mountains (up to 2,700m) and skiing is offered at several locations, the closest resort being Sasso Tetto (25km.). The resorts are modest in terms of length and ski runs, but are nevertheless enjoyable,
