Why Jayne or Tony chose Villetritouls

The property offer space and seclusion. With wifi to help the teenagers 'keep in touch' and consideration to our younger guests with a keypad lock on the gate to the pool.

Plenty of room to eat outside with a fully fitted summer kitchen for those long lazy summer evenings.

Villetritouls is the most peaceful of villages, tucked on the side of a hill.

What makes this barn unique

La Grange is a beautiful home, it has been lovingly made with the assistance of friends. We love to spend time here when we can as it is so private and a great place to simply 'chill' away from our hectic lives. As a family of 6, we definitely needed space, which this home provides. The location is superb for the hills and the mountains, the city, historical sites, countryside…. it has everything within an easy car ride. Sometimes, however, we just want to relax and dangling our toes in the beautiful clear pool with the sun on our backs, listening to the birds above.

Beautiful house in picturesque setting.

  • 5 of 5

The property is a perfect holiday home for a family or a group of friends with all the rooms having luxurious en suite facilities. It has the most wonderful kitchen which provides the perfect place for dinner at the end of a lazy day by the pretty pool. We had lovely lunches outside the summer kitchen even in September . We walked into the hills and picked figs while the younger ones played in the rock pools. Servies nearby was a nice walk for us oldies and has a wonderful butcher also a general store selling local produce and a bakery but one of the routines of the day was listening for the horn of the bread van which visits the village early every day. Servies also has a cafe that does take away freshly cooked takeaway pizzas. The house has a several little outdoor terraces as well as the very well equipped pool area with its own shower room and summer kitchen. We walked from the house to a local chateau for wine tasting and buying, we also caught the weekday early morning bus to carcassonne for the princely sum of 1 euro! There was nothing lacking in the facilities provided by the house and we would definitely go back again.

A wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place! The location of the property was exactly what we wanted in a holiday, it was quiet and relaxed with only a short journey to the nearest village with shops, a doctors and restaurant.

The scenery is breathtaking with wonderful walks up into the hills as well as crystal clear water in the rock pools. We caught the local bus to Carcassonne for the day and thoroughly enjoyed it, we would recommend standing on the castle wall to look at the fantastic views.

The property is just amazing, the kitchen had everything we could have needed, the living room was a perfect space for relaxing in the evening and blissfully cool in the hot summer afternoons. The bedrooms were all a perfect size with luxurious ensuite bathrooms, the showers are wonderful! We loved spending days by the pool with no need to leave due to a full equipped outside kitchen and dining area where we enjoyed breakfast and lunch on a few occasions.

We would highly recommend staying here, it was just what we wanted and would love to go back as there is still so much to do and see

The small hamlet of Villetritouls ( previously known as VillatrituIis (1110), Villatertulis (1272), and Villatertulus (1361)) is located on a plateau at the edge of the Val de Dagne. In 1826 it had 117 inhabitants and is set in the heart of the Corbières wine growing region, part the of 'Cathar country'. The village currently has 38 inhabitants and a bread lady visits every morning from Servies en Val ( except Wednesdays ) to provide the inhabitants with bread, newspapers, etc. Servies en Val is 3 km from the villa and has a shop, butcher, post office, doctors surgery and café/restaurant. Servies en Val was once the capital of the Barony of the Val de Dagne and contains a 12 century castle that is still privately owned.

There are numerous 'Cathar' castles in the area, the most famous being the medieval city of Carcassonne (30 km from Villetritouls), the largest walled city in Europe and a UNESCO world heritage site. Within the city a visit to the 11th Century Basilica of Saint Nazaire, a visit to the Chateau Comtal and a walk around the ramparts is an absolute must.

Villetritouls is also a 30 minutes drive from a second well known medieval town - LaGrasse. Its beautiful architectural complex has narrow streets that lead up to a beautiful listed houses: the House Maynard, La Maison Lautier and also the former convent of the Sisters. The Old Bridge (1303) was rebuilt in the XVII and XIX century. The village also has the church of St Michel Gothic and the Benedictine abbey of St. Mary Orbieu. For the last ten years Lagrasse has been labeled "One of the most beautiful villages in France" and hosts a cultural event of national importance: The Banquet of the Book.

Through the heart of the Region runs the Canal du Midi which runs through central Carcassonne before flowing southwards to the Mediterranean sea. There are some wonderful walks along the canal banks and the coast and beach is about an hours drive from the property.

Other places to visit are Narbonne, approximately and hour's drive and Andorra in the Pyrenees 2.5 hour's drive (120km). The latter drive is rugged, natural and stunningly beautiful, with hidden, remote villages, lot's of bird life, natural rock pools, waterfalls and numerous rivers. The whole area is surrounded with vineyards, castles, domaines, hamlets, small villages, wildlife, birds of prey, waterfalls, rock pools etc.
