Overview

About the property

Walk to the fabulous wedding venue, The Cowshed!

Come and enjoy this beautiful corner of Scotland! Whether it is golf, walking, painting, outdoor pursuits or simply a relaxing break, this area has it all. Our modern, comfortable holiday home is in the beautiful, historic fishing village of Crail, peaceful and picturesque, yet only 10 miles from St Andrews.

Today, St. Andrews is recognised across the globe as 'The Home of Golf'. Whether you are looking to play the iconic Old Course or any of the other ten courses on offer, golfing in St Andrews is the ultimate ambition of many golfers. The medieval town of St Andrews offers a lot more than golf, with historic buildings, university, a huge range of bars and restaurants, not to mention its magnificent award winning beaches. In the area there are world class golf courses including Balcomie Links (2.2 mls) formed in 1786 making it the 7th oldest in the world, Kingsbarns (4.1mls) .

We are spoilt for choice with top class dining nearby, including The Peat Inn, Sangsters, The Cellar and the award winning Anstruther Fish and Chip restaurant.

Although we have two double and one twin bedrooms the house is more comfortable for a maximum of 4 adults and 2 children. The lounge / dining area is open plan with 2 comfortable sofas and a large pine dining table. We have an upstairs bathroom with bath and shower and downstairs WC. There is off street parking for 2 cars.

There is a lovely sheltered, sunny enclosed garden with side access for bikes etc.

We have free, high speed, unlimited wifi, a SMART TV with full access to Netflix and an iphone/pod docking station. There is also a wide choice of DVDs and CDs. I have also recently purchased a Nespresso coffee machine with a selection of coffee capsules provided.

About The Owner

I am a retired teacher who loves to come to Crail to walk along the coastal path and enjoy the nearby facilities in St. Andrews. I live in Edinburgh but although only an hour and a quarter away, this feels like a different world.

The Owner purchased this house in 2000

Why The Owner chose Crail

My home is bright and comfortable for a relaxing break away from hectic daily life.

We bought our house 18 years ago from new, as somewhere to bring our kids to, where they could enjoy freedom and all the outdoor pursuits that are available in the area.

It is a very special place to us.

Beautiful town, cozy home, Fhiona is an excellent host!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 7 nights as our son is at St Andrews. The home is very comfortable and had all we needed for simple meals and the beds were very comfortable. The heated mattresses were much appreciated! Fhiona is a kind and attentive host - she responded efficiently to any questions, provided personal touches on arrival and is a delight to work with. I loved morning walks in Crail to the harbor and town, and then often to the grocery and butcher. She has many good ideas for day trips near by. A great holiday exploring Scotland!

A great place to stay: quiet and well-located

  • 5 of 5

The rooms were very spacious and comfortable.

We enjoyed the village of Crail and it was quiet and well-located for buses and access to the main tourist areas

Although only advertised for 4 people we did not find it a problem with 6 adults; the downstairs toilet helped and we were able to comfortably manage the use of the upstairs bathroom and shower. Whilst it was sometimes difficult with seating for 6 in the front room, we were able to make use of the dining area to resolve any issues.

We particularly liked

• The 'wee' welcome pack (some basic provisions on arrival)

• The internet access,

• The large bath towels (so often only small towels are provided)

• The spacious bedrooms and wardrobe space

• The large living and dining area

• The provision of shampoo etc. in bathrooms

• The well-equipped kitchen with ample crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils

• The white goods provided (fridge, freezer, washing machine & dish washer)

• The items in the cupboards (salt, pepper etc. )

• The general standard of décor

• The information folder + brochures

• The selection of books and DVDs – although these were not used

• The ample provision of toilet roll & kitchen roll

• The provision of an OS map which we found really useful.

Some areas that could be considered to help improve the offer

• Somewhere to put dirty boots to save having to leave them in the utility area when it is wet outside. We did a few of the costal path walks and it was sometimes quite muddy. If there had been a small cupboard outside we could have stored our walking boots outside to save any mess inside the house

• A larger TV screen - we only used it on a couple of occasions and for only short periods of time but we found the small screen limiting

Perfect - especially the proximity to The Cow Shed wedding venue

  • 4 of 5

Bright and spacious, comfortable and cosy, well equipped and very clean all over. Perfect place if you are attending a wedding at The Cow Shed which is just a hop and a skip over the field. Only thing missing: a colander!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review my home and i’m so you were so pleased with it. There is a colander but it looks a bit like a bowl so I will certainly take that on board and replace it. I hope to welcome you again in the future. Fhiona

Great Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed so much our stay in Crail, enhanced by this lovely home. It had everything you might need, with great functional design throughout and a most pleasant aesthetic sense.

The location was perfect for exploring the East Neuk and St. Andrews--short walking distance to the points of interest in Crail, a charming old fishing village along the scenic Fife Coastal Path.

Warm thanks to Fhiona for making our stay so comfortable!

Home from Home

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we requested a booking to the day we left Fhiona made us so very welcome and could not have been more helpful. The house was in a very quiet location yet only 300 yds from the beach and the wonderful shack which served fresh lobster and crab from the sea. It was home from home. Would definitely stay again and it will be our first port of call when we visit that area again. Good public transport to other towns and villages and Crail itself has everything you need. Wish we could have stayed another week!
