The riveride property is a superb and interesting building with lovely garden and grounds.

  • 5 of 5

We had a superb family stay here with 8 of us. A really warm welcome was provided by our hosts and they also encouraged us to utilise their fabulous vegetable garden with fresh basil / tomatoes / figs and very tasty blackberries in abundance. The rooms are spacious and with a fantastic outdoor area and good weather we were able to eat outside every night. The kids loved playing in the huge garden and even enjoyed a dip in the river! With such interesting and varied grounds, the games of hide and seek took sometime to complete. I would recommend taking bikes as there is a wealth of easy cycling available to help you enjoy the scenary. A thoroughly enjoyable week was had by all.

SUPERB PROPERTY

  • 5 of 5

David and Nenita were wonderful hosts and the Old Watermill at La Goupillouse is excellent. There is masses of parking space at the front and the back garden is a childs paradise. Large grassed garden area leading to the river and another part of the huge garden, this became the fairy garden for the grandchildren who absolutely loved it. The Mill comes with everything you need and more. Stock up on your shopping at the Hyper U in Mayenne then relax in the garden and the beautiful French countryside. I would definitely recommend this property. Many thanks David and Nenita for a wonderful week in your beautiful property.

short stay during the holidays

  • 4 of 5

With 5 young adults and 5 adults we had a good stay during the holidays.

House was spacious enough and the area offered enough for a stay of 6 days.

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This place was an absolute find. We went with our two children aged four and six and my parents. The house is huge with a beautiful river running through the back. It is the last word in relaxation. How often do you stay in a holiday home with the best of everything? The mattresses, pillows, furniture, power showers, sofa and most of all, everything you could possibly need in the large kitchen, all to the highest standard. The children loved it and spent hours playing all over the house and grounds and we enjoyed the peace. David and Nenita were so kind and friendly, their vegetable garden was a revelation. I would highly recommend this home, it is a gem.

A week away with friends

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a fantastic week at La Goupillouse with four of our friends. The property and gardens are lovely with plenty of room to chill and explore. We had a very warm welcome from David and Nenita upon our arrival. The surrounding area is peaceful with beautiful countryside. The bonus of the produce from their vegetable garden is a real treat. We would recommend this property as a great place to stay.

Beautiful, spacious house in idyllic surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

We visited from the 28th of July up to the 8th of August 2017. We were a large party comprising of two families. There were four adults and six children in the group, but the house accommodated us all easily in comfort. We opted to take the further two rooms available on top of the basic three. In total, we had five large bedrooms, two of which were en-suite, and an additional family bathroom, a downstairs shower and toilet and an additional toilet. Downstairs the kitchen and living room were large and well appointed. Everything was clean and in perfect order. We were well catered for.

Upon arrival, David was on the front drive, ready to greet the weary travellers with a smile and a warm welcome. Nenita was pottering in the house, making sure that everything was perfect for us, and it was. They gave us a brief tour of the house and grounds, which are, like the house, extensive and beautifully maintained.

Out the back is a large paved patio, leading to an extensive lawn ringed with beautiful flowers and fruit and nut trees. Adjacent to this is a carp-pond (sadly at a low water level during our stay due to recent dry spell). Immediately next to this is the river; a beautiful bubbling affair, under-passing two small bridges as it wends through the property. Whilst we were staying, the children spent many hours trying to fish out the invasive signal cray-fish and casting rods into the carp pond. We set up a badminton net and a croquet set, and the garden was easily large enough for a game of frisbee.

At the front of the house lies a real treasure, and Nenita's pride and joy, a huge vegetable patch. We were lucky enough to stay when fruit and vegetables were bountiful for harvesting. Encouraged by Nenita to help ourselves freely, we had choice pick of potatoes, onions, courgettes, green-beans, pumpkins, tomatoes, aubergines, cucumbers, chard, and many many more vegetables. We could have easily eaten for free!

During our stay, we explored history in the local area, visiting ruins and museums. David and Nenita were generous with their local knowledge and made recommendations for places to visit during our stay. There are plenty of options for activities and history, as well as local lakes for swimming and relaxing next to.

During the evenings, we relaxed on the terrace and barbecued food bought from the local markets or supermarkets, whilst listening to the river run past.

Overall, we all want to return in the future.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased Francesca and her family enjoyed their holiday at Goupillouse. The dry weather broke the day they left topping up the river and the carp pool which had been low for a long time. We would welcome Francesca and the family back at any time and wish then all the best.
