About Julia & Bastiaan van Griensven
We ( Julia and Bastiaan) moved from the UK to France in 2010. Bastiaan works in the aerospace industry in Toulouse and Julia is a former BBC journalist. Having grown up in rural settings in the UK and the Netherlands we bought this old farmhouse in 2015 to get back to our roots but keep a connection to city life.

Why Julia & Bastiaan van Griensven chose Empeaux
The gite is in a very quiet and rural setting and gives an immediate sense of being able to rest. There is plenty of shade under mature trees (important in this part of the world) and the pool provides opportunity to cool off. It is wonderful to be able to relax and for instance read surrounded only by the sounds of farmers looking after their land. But, for those who like it, it is possible to visit a beautiful big city within a 35 minutes drive. For us, this place provides the best of both worlds.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Early in morning, on clear days a view of the pyrenees provides an instant sense of space and beauty. This may be repeated at sunset and, followed by a magnificent night sky.

Wonderful, Relaxing Holiday
We spent 2.5 weeks at this lovely property called En Doucet. Julia and Bastiaan are great hosts, very kind and helpful and go beyond what is expected. They have two teenage children who must be the most polite, respectful and quietest teenagers in the world!
The gite itself is very rural - the nearest restaurants and shops are around 20 mins away so a car is essential. The gite is well equipped and has everything you need and the pool area is very relaxing with the pool itself being very cooling on a lovely hot day.
If you can drag yourself away from the beautiful, peaceful gite and its surroundings, there are plenty of pretty villages and activities to do in this area. The nearby town of L'isle Jourdain has everything you need in the way of shopping, eating and relaxing.
All in all, En Doucet is a lovely place to spend your holiday. We tend to try a different area of France every year but if we didn't do this we would definitely return to En Doucet.
Wonderful En Doucet
Thanks to our lovely hosts Julia and Bastian.
We had a marvellous week and 2 days at this beautiful Gite
It’s a lovely tranquil area but still very quick to get to Toulouse with lots of lovely villages all around
Thanks for a great holiday
Beautiful old farm house with sunflower fields all around
We stayed for a 2 week holiday in this lovely house and the owners were very helpful. We were a family of two teenagers and a 1 year old Baby and the owners had supplied a highchair and travel cot which was very helpful. The house has internet and a swimming pool and a large trampoline with swings which kept the older kids happy.
The house is clean and well looked after.
The owners couldn't have been more helpful, such a lovely family.
The house is about 10 minutes drive from the nearest shops so car is required.
Would definitely recommend this holiday home.
Splendid isolation within easy reach of Toulouse
The property is an annex of the owner's own home although it manages to feel seperate and private.
Julia and Bastian were there when we needed them (reconnecting the intermittent wifi) but not obvious otherwise - perfect landlords!
Everything you expect in a Gite!
A very nice old gite (adjoining owners house) with modern kitchen facilities, lovely pool and good Wi-Fi. If you want peace and tranquility this is for you.
Although part of a working farm there is absolutely no noise or smell, it's not that sort of farm! The owners Julia and Bas are a delightful couple and not at all intrusive, nothing is too much trouble for them. Julia even loaned me her Satnav when we got lost finding our way back from Toulouse so that the next time we went to Toulouse we had no problem going staight back to the Gite. We only stayed for 5 nights and wished it had been longer and will definately return. I have already ordered my own Satnav from Amazon. The pool is excellent with sunbeds and they also have hammocks under the trees in a shaded area next to the pool. Traditional shops and supermarkets are only 10-15 minutes away on quiet roads through nice countryside, don't rush, you're en vacance! We recommend this Gite, you will not be disappointed.
Lovely setting. Our hosts couldnt have been kinder.
Beautiful setting.Just as we wanted.
Made very welcome and we felt we were appreciated.
Well done,J and B !
Our Gite offers easy access to the beautiful old city of Toulouse (la Ville Rose), with plenty of museums, attractions, markets and night life. It also offers the quiet life of the Gers with its old villages, market towns and good food. The country side around our gite has rolling hills with beautiful views suitable for walking & cycling. The Pyrenees feature often as a back drop. Possible day trips further afield include the medieval city of Carcassonne (1.5 hours), the beautiful old town of Albi (1.15 hours) and medieval hill top town of Cordes sur Ciel. The Mediterranean sea is within striking distance at 2 hours and so are the Pyrenees for walking or skiing. Nearer to the gite are the market towns of L'isle Jourdain , St Lys and Samatan offering weekly markets and local amenities. The Toulouse area is the centre of the European aerospace industry offering the potential to visit the recently opened aviation museum Aeroscopia, the final assembly lines of the iconic Airbus A380 or the space museum City d'Lespace.
