Widford Mill Cottage is a stunning Cotswold stone property, which forms part of a former fulling mill, and sits in beautiful countryside, next to the lovely River Windrush. The cottage is in the tiny hamlet of Widford, within two miles of the well known market town of Burford, "the gateway to the Cotswolds", which is home to an excellent selection of pubs, restaurants and shops. There are many lovely walks accessible directly from the cottage, and the location is also ideal for exploring the wider region, including the many beautiful towns and villages of the Cotswolds, as well as further afield places, such as Blenheim Palace, Oxford, or even a day trip into London.

This lovely cottage has been fully refurbished and refurnished by its owners in a smart, contemporary style, whilst retaining historical character, including oak beams, oak floors and exposed Cotswold stone around the old mill windows. The character of the cottage is complemented by its modern facilities, including wireless internet access, a flatscreen TV and a well presented kitchen.

Widford Mill Cottage sleeps a maximum of six people, in three bedrooms, with a family bathroom and an ensuite bathroom. There is only a small area of grass outside the cottage, however the cottage is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Two off street parking spaces are available and quiet on street parking is available close to the cottage. Widford Mill Cottage is perfect for a family or group of friends seeking tranquillity in the heart of the glorious Cotswolds countryside.

House Rules

IMPORTANT CUSTOMER NOTICE

Whilst entirely safe, the gas fire in the living room is presently undergoing maintenance and cannot be used. The owner of the property would like to reassure guests that the central heating system is more than capable of heating the property without the use of the fire. Please contact us for further updates.

Booking and payment

Character Cottages is a marketing agency and we do not own or manage any of the cottages listed on our website. Bookings made via us form a legal agreement directly between you and the property owner.

For bookings commencing more than 10 weeks in advance, a 30% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm the booking. The balance payment is then due 10 weeks prior to arrival.

All payments are made subject to the cancellation policy set out in the standard Booking Conditions.

Security deposits

A security deposit of £150 is payable, which is returned after the letting period, subject to an inspection of the property. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. In the event that the owners, or their appointed housekeepers, have to spend additional time tidying up after your departure, then the cost of this extra time may be deducted from your security deposit. The security deposit is payable prior to arrival at the property, via a bank transfer or a valid debit or credit card.

Occupancy

The maximum occupancy of the property, is six guests, at any point during your stay. Unauthorised over occupancy is a breach of our terms and conditions and may result in the cancellation of your booking and additional charges. Please consult us prior to booking if you wish to discuss the possibility of having more than six guests at the property.

Infants who sleep in a cot do not count towards the occupancy figure, however, due to space restrictions, the occupancy figure may only be exceeded by up to two additional infants.

Pets

Regrettably, pets are not accepted.

Bed linen and towels

Bed linen and towels are provided for guests.

Arrival and departure times

Arrival time is after 4pm and departure time is by 10am. Access is via a key safe, therefore it does not matter if you are arriving late at night.

Heating and fuel

The property has a gas central heating system, with electricity and gas included in the rental price. There is a wood effect gas fire in the living room.

Services provided

The property has free wireless internet access and a Freeview TV with DVD player.

There is a telephone in the property, for emergency use only. Mobile phone reception is generally OK, however the signal strength can vary depending upon the network provider.

Parking

There is off street parking across the road from the property, for two small to medium sized or one large car. Further quiet street parking is available close to the property.

Housekeeping

Where a letting exceeds nine nights, a mid-stay clean, bed linen and towel change may be included in the price. Please check with us to confirm. Additional housekeeping services may be available on request.

Child friendly facilities

A travel cot (without linen) and high chair are provided.

Please note that, although the property is on a quiet road, there is no gate between the front door and the road. There is no garden at the property, other than a small unenclosed area of grass immediately outside the cottage, however open countryside is accessible directly from the cottage.

Initial consumables

A small quantity of initial consumables is provided for your convenience (eg. tea, coffee, sugar, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, soap, washing powder, toilet rolls, etc), however, you should not expect the quantity of these provisions to be sufficient for the duration of your stay.

Accessibility, health and safety

The property is laid out over three floors, which could pose difficulty to guests with limited mobility, or carrying babies, both in terms of their general movement and their ability to quickly exit the house in the event of an emergency.

The smoke and CO detectors operate on a sound only basis and, therefore, those who have serious impairment of hearing may not be able to hear the alarm systems and could be at risk.

Smoking

No smoking is permitted throughout the property.

Hen, Stag and other same sex groups

Unfortunately, Hen, Stag and other same sex groups are not allowed at Widford Mill Cottage. Please note that same sex family groups are welcome.

Corporate and commercial bookings

Unfortunately, this property does not accept corporate, work related or commercial bookings of any kind.

Minimum age requirement

Bookings from groups where all members are under 25 years of age will be accepted only at the discretion of the property owner.

Beautiful location. Very comfortable and very well equipped cottage. Nicely decorated and in impeccable condition. Felt instantly at home. A wonderful way to spend a long weekend in the Cotswolds.

Quiet and Wonderful - A great base to access so many places in or near the Cotswolds

Exactly as advertised, the cottage is beautiful and finished to a high standard. Three cosy but very roomy and comfortable bedrooms. We used the cottage as a base to access places like Burford, Stratford Upon Avon, Oxford, outer London (Kempton Park Racecourse) and of course Bourton On the Water - all easy to get to from the cottage. Plenty of good eateries nearby. A great place for a short or a long stay.

Wonderful country cottage

We had a wonderful time on our trip to England this past week and it was made all the more special because of the fabulous accommodations of the Widford Mill Cottage. Five of us from Canada were in England for a family wedding and needed somewhere central to where my niece lives (Witney) and where the wedding was to be held (Stow-on-the-Wold). The Widford Mill Cottage turned out to be perfect!

It is gorgeous and everything was so extremely well-organized. We had no trouble at all finding the cottage and the detailed booklet on how everything worked works was very much appreciated. The cottage itself was exactly as advertised, and it was spotless when we arrived. We were also very pleasantly surprised by the “welcome cake” for us on the kitchen table. It was such a thoughtful gesture and the cake was delicious!

It is in a quiet country location but within minutes of Burford where there are several great pubs to choose from for meals out, and within a 15-minute drive to Witney for groceries. We went to Blenheim Palace, Stratford-Upon-Avon and Oxford for day trips -- all easy drives.

I would not hesitate whatsoever to recommend this property to other potential guests.

Burford is twenty miles west of Oxford and is considered the southern gateway to the Cotswolds. It is a beautiful old Cotswold town, famous for its sloping High Street, which runs down from the high Wolds, with beautiful views over the open countryside, to the willow fringed River Windrush, in the pretty Windrush valley. A fine three arched medieval bridge crosses the river at the foot of the hill.

In Anglo-Saxon times, Burford was the site of a fortified ford on the river Windrush. The town grew to be an important crossroads and a wealthy wool town, which is very popular with visitors today. The broad main street is lined with dignified old houses, ancient cottages and many shops, all of which appear little changed since Tudor times, as witnessed by the precarious angles the buildings have come to rest at.

There are wonderful little side streets to explore, as well as many old pubs, cafes and antique shops. The 15th century parish church of St. John Baptist is magnificent and is another sign of the wealth that the wool trade generated for the town.

Car: Widford Mill Cottage is easily accessed by car, being located within a mile of the A40, one of the main roads running through the North Cotswolds.

Train: The nearest railway station to Widford Mill Cottage is Kingham (approximately ten miles away), which has regular, direct services to London Paddington, with a typical journey time of approximately 90 minutes.

Plane: Heathrow International Airport: 60 miles, approximately 70 minute drive; Birmingham International Airport: 56 miles, approximately 80 minute drive.
