Large House Accommodating Up To 14 Located Within Heart Of Exmoor National Park

Cophole is a wonderful seven bedroom Victorian house situated within the heart of the Exmoor National Park and just a short walk from Wimbleball Lake where a number of both land and water based activities can be enjoyed all year round.

The large and spacious house is tastefully decorated throughout and sits within its own estate, which is run as a stud farm for show-jumpers and eventers. The dog friendly house is available all year round and is an ideal retreat for both large or multiple families, as well as groups of friends. The house can be booked either for a short break or longer depending on your requirements.

Downstairs at Cophole there is a choice of sitting rooms. The cosy adult sitting room is located towards the rear of the house and features a large flat screen TV and a wood-burning stove. Alternatively, guests can enjoy the large and spacious family sitting room with adjoining games area. This room is overlooking the front garden and has large comfy sofas and a 50'' flat screen TV with DVD/BluRay player and additional X-Box. There is also a wood-burning stove for cosy winter evenings. The adjoining games area has a small pool table and a table football.

After rustling up a meal in the contemporary, well equipped kitchen, guests can dine in the large dining room that also features a piano. A separate utility area is located beside the rear entrance to Cophole and is fitted with a washing machine and dryer. This area is ideal for drying wet or muddy dogs or storing coats and boots.

The final two rooms on the ground floor are a pretty king-size double or twin bedroom with zip and link beds, and a family bathroom with walk-in shower.

A lovely large staircase leads to the first floor of the house where there are six further bedrooms and two family bathrooms. Spread neatly along the hallway the bedrooms include a gorgeous twin with two single beds, a delightful double with beautiful views, a colourful single and a large triple with a double bed and an additional single bed. The final two bedrooms are both doubles, one with a super king-size bed and the other a standard double, the master bedroom is en-suite. The two family bathrooms are fitted to a high level, the first has a shower and the second a classic roll top bath.

The garden at Cophole is located to the front of the house and is wonderfully large with established trees and hedgerows providing plenty of shade and privacy. A wooden children's play area is also fitted into the garden and is ideal for warm summer months when enjoying a BBQ outside.

Cophole is located with a 400 acre working estate and guests are welcome to enjoy much of this area, including the direct pathway that leads to Wimbleball Lake.

Great house for a family celebration

  • 4 of 5

We all loved the house and its location on Exmoor. With easy walking to,Wimbleball Lake and short drives elswhere, it worked well for all. The kitchen was well equipped, and there were nice touches throughout. The first floor bedrooms were great, but the ground floor one felt isolated - but would have terrific views in the summer! We all agreed that we would like to return!

Owner's Response: Hi Beverly, Thankyou for your nice review. I'm sorry we didn't manage 5 stars but there isn't much we can do about the location of the downstairs bedroom - it is where it is , off the entrance hall ! Hope to see you again. You will be most welcome.

A great venue for a family holiday/gathering, well worth a visit.

  • 4 of 5

The farmhouse was warm, comfortable, well equipped and delightful. The surrounding area is lovely with charming small towns and villages to visit close by. We enjoyed meals cooked on the aga at the large table in the dinning room and had fun in the games room and around the chimera as well as quiet evenings in the sitting room with the wood burner lit. The beds were comfy although some a little creaky and the bathrooms clean and well appointed with luxury toiletries supplied. We were a little disappointed to discover the downstairs bedroom and bathroom were at opposite sides of the house which was not indicated in the description, but luckily our eldest family member (92) was able to manage the stairs twice a day!

A beautiful venue for a family gathering.

A very tastefully furnished and extremely well equipped farmhouse set in a beautiful area.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderfully family weekend staying at Cophole. Fiona made us feel so welcome with lots of extra little touches throughout the house - fresh flowers, cakes and some very kind birthday touches for my sister. The kitchen is extremely well equipped especially with a fantastic aga which kept it so warm (there is a conventional cooker too) along with a huge variety of other kitchen appliances and crockery. The dining room seats 14 and there are 2 lounges which is great if someone wants a few minutes piece and quiet, both of which have log burners. There is plenty of seating and tvs too. The kids (19-25 yrs) enjoyed the table football, pool table and xbox which made them feel 10 yrs younger in additional to a variety of younger toys and games if you had little ones. The 7 bedrooms were full of character and had beautiful furnishings which made us all so comfortable.

We loved the grounds and all sat out in the sunshine on the lovely garden furniture. If is wasn't October we would probably have eaten outside too.

There is also a great little swing/slide/climbing frame for little kids too.

I would thoroughly recommend Cophole as a either a truely relaxing getaway or as a great base to explore the moors.

Family holiday 2016

  • 5 of 5

This is a superbly appointed property in beautiful grounds and catered for our family party aged 4 -87 for the whole week. With two comfortable sitting rooms we were able to watch the Men's Wimbledon final and the British Grand Prix simultaneously! We spent many hours outside in the grounds, barbecueing, playing table tennis and various ball games as well as exploring the local area, the beautiful lake and local eateries. The property was spotlessly clean, the owner and family accessible and helpful but not obtrusive. One of the bonuses of this location was star gazing at night - the Dark Skies and complete peace werr magical!

We would have no hesitation in recommending Cophole, a lovely property in a beautiful area.

WOW ..What a fantastic weekend in a lovely house

  • 5 of 5

We booked this weekend to celebrate my sons 18th birthday with the family. Six adults and six teenagers, and WOW such a well appointed beautiful house we could not have wished for a better place to create wonderful memories, Fiona the owner has thought of everthing to make you feel welcome. We knew we were going to have a fantastic time.

From the convenience of a utility room with downstairs toilet and shower to the huge kitchen warmed by the fab AGA. Great place to congregate in morning or evening to chat, drink and prepare our meals. Everything had been thought of in respect of crockery, utensils, a huge fridge and freezer. We ordered a TESCO delivery which arrived at 5pm with all our provisions. No need to pack loads. Fiona, the owner arrived to greet us and welcome us to her lovely house, she was so hospitable through out the stay, with the house being next to the farm, we were welcomed to go next door to feed the orphan lambs each evening, see the new foals, kittens & dogs, an unexpected bonus.

We did use the gas BBQ but sat inside, we'd love to return in warmer months, as in the beautiful large garden furniture and picnic tableware is avail for a BBQ on the lawn outside, there is a climbing frame for smaller kids. We had bought some bats and balls and the kids played tennis rounders outside !

The two spacious lounges both had log burners, plenty of logs, firefighters everything is thought through. We made good use of these and it created a comfy cosy evening for all. The teenagers used the large lounge next to the games room where they played games and watched TV, and we enjoyed the back lounge with 3 spacious comfy settees to drink, talk, laugh it was so relaxing. The decor is of a very high standard

with lovely quirky accessories. The dining room seats up to 20 and was a great place to congregate for our family meals, a piano there for anyone musical!

The bedrooms upstairs were spacious and beautifully decorated, the beds were so comfortable loved the quilts and pillows we all slept so well. There are enough bathrooms for all to get sorted in the morning.. Roll top bath went down a treat! There are two heating timers remember to switch on the one upstairs as well to ensure hot water upstairs.

The location is beautiful we arranged a shooting party on the Saturday with Shalden Shooting School, which everyone enjoyed! The Notley Arms in Monksilver for Sunday lunch, great food great place. Tarr Steps recommended to visit. Lovely memories!

There are many varied activities available in the local area. At Wimbleball Lake, which is only a short walk from the house there are a number of both land and water based activities to enjoy, including sailing, windsurfing, high ropes and archery. Alternatively, there are routes for walkers and cyclists that can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.

Further opportunities to see the local scenery on foot include the many pathways that can be found across Exmoor National Park. One of the most beautiful is Snowdrop Valley, which is best admired in February and March. For coastal walks the South West Coast Path begins in Minehead before heading west towards Lynton and Lynmouth on the edge of North Devon.

Other nearby activities include horse riding and golf.

Cophole is located in the beautiful Exmoor National Park, a designated Dark Skies Discovery Site and Europe's first International Dark Sky Reserve.

The house is located just up the road from Wimbleball Lake, where a number of water based activities can be enjoyed, including sailing, wind-surfing, canoeing and rowing. There are also some land based activities such as climbing, cycling and archery, all of which can be found around the shores of the lake. For any fisherman, fishing can be done from the banks of the lake or from a boat, with permits available onsite. If you would prefer to walk around the lake there is a lovely nine mile trail to follow. Complete your visit with a bite to eat at the lakeside cafe.

Other nearby places on Exmoor that are worth visiting, include the pretty village of Dunster with its cobbled streets, Dulverton, Tarr Steps and Withypool. Alternatively, the seaside town of Minehead is less than a 30-minute drive, as is Watchet and Porlock.

For restaurants and pubs, The Raleigh Cross Inn and The George Inn are only a few miles away and serve good food in a family friendly environments. Some of the others we recommend include Woods in Dunster, The Notley Arms at Monksilver and The Royal Oak at Winsford.
