About the property

4-BR stone luxury villa - Enclosed private pool, AC, close to town and trails

Just outside the historic village of Saint Remy de Provence, you will find our secluded gem. With four bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths, and covering a roomy 210 square meters (2,260 sq. ft.), this is an authentic yet modernized Provencal villa. Central air conditioning keeps the house at an ideal temperature no matter the outside heat. Its French owners, who have lived in many countries, have applied international standards of comfort, taste, and amenities, all chosen to enhance your enjoyment of the renowned Provencal lifestyle. The house is quiet, functional, and well laid out, with living quarters on one side and bedrooms to the other. The master bedroom features its own en-suite bath. Awaiting you outside are a child-safe, very private pool, a terrace, large (1500 sq. meter) landscaped grounds, and ample space for lounging or entertaining, all screened by hedges, pines, flowering laurels and lavender, with timeless olive groves and vineyards nearby. The location, bordering the Alpilles Parc Reserve, is ideal for exploring Provence.

Lovely Saint Remy is an easy stroll away. Hiking and biking trails originate a few hundred meters from the house. The next “street” over is an actual Roman road, the Via Domitia, which leads to the ancient site of Glanum less than three km. distant. Day trips might include many close-by beauty spots on the Mediterranean and the Rhone, and historic Provencal towns such as Arles and Avignon.

Every aspect of Mas Aurelia has been designed for playing host in the classic Provencal manner. The house sleeps nine people very comfortably, and can just as comfortably entertain a dozen or more during the day. Living room, dining room and eat-in kitchen are open, airy and light. A large and expandable teak table and 10 chairs can be set on the terrace under the shade of the house or under the trees in the yard. A new, large Weber barbecue awaits your grilling talents. The pool makes an especially wonderful display at night: turn on the pool lights, and just a few inside lamps, and enjoy brilliant star-lit skies framed by the surrounding pines.

The house is equipped with cable TV in English (BBC, CNN), local phone and internet (Wifi). In the Kitchen, you will find a gas stove, an oven, a microwave, a toaster, a kettle, a coffee machine, a large refrigerator and freezer with ice dispenser and a dishwasher. All the utensils and cookware needed to cook a proper French meal if you so desire.

THE MASTER BEDROOM The large (42 sq. meter) master suite, with south and west exposures, includes a Queen bed on the main level, and a single bed on the mezzanine, along with an en-suite bath (shower, sink, toilet) and two closets. A twin bed is available on the mezzanine.

THE OLIVE TREE BEDROOM This large (20 sq. meter) room is decorated in green and sand tones, giving it a very relaxing and comfy feeling. The room also has two closets.

THE WHITE BULL BEDROOM A large white-paper bull’s head on a deep blue wall sets this room’s theme and character. A smaller (10 sq. meter) space that holds two single beds and a single closet, the bedroom has views of the pool and backyard and is close to the Olive Tree Bedroom.

THE MAZET BEDROOM (Guest House) Set apart from the main villa, this “mazet” or guest house is ideal for those seeking a bit of independence and quiet. Close by the pool, it is a large (23 sq. meter) space with its own full bath, hot water heater, and ceiling fan, along with a Queen bed and two closets.

The Olive Tree and White Bull bedrooms share a full bathroom with a tub and coarse marble tiling throughout.

There is another independent toilet with a sink.

About Martin Guillaume

We are two executives who, in between our travelling lifestyles, come to take refuge in this haven of peace - the cradle of our family.

Why Martin Guillaume chose Saint-Rémy-de-Provence

Provence's endless charm, close to St Remy without the noise.

What makes this villa unique

Apart from the closeness of the village, there are the GR paths which begin just a few metres away from the house. What we like most is the tranquil, private aspect of the garden in a functional, comfortable house.

Exceeded all expectations

What an absolutely beautiful property. The pictures quite honestly do not do it justice. We were a group of 3 couples staying here for a week in late September. The flow of the house was great for our group, and the amenities were great. Thanks to the owner, Martin, for the nice rose wine that awaited us on arrival! We made full use of the pool and loungers every afternoon after a day of touring around. We were able to walk into the centre of St. Remy in about 20 minutes (hint: if you want to largely avoid the roads when walking to town, there is a footpath along the Canal des Alpines which you can pick up a few hundred feet down the road from the house. You should be able to see it on Google Maps). There are GR trails starting very close to the house, and a highlight was the hike up to the Rocher des Deux Trous (Rock with Two Holes) high in the Alpilles. I'd highly recommend a stay at Mas Aurelia.

Lovely and confortable home !

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this lovely home! The property is very well located on the edge of the city (You can even walk to the city center) and close to the wonderful "Alpilles Natural Regional Park". The house is large, very luminous, well equipped and maintained and furnished with a nice "Provence" taste. The garden is big and quiet. "Aperitif" around the large pull is a must!... Can't wait to go back.....

Comfortable and Convenient

  • 5 of 5

Avery nice house with easy access to Saint-Remy and well positioned for visiting the many beautiful towns and villages in the region. Comfortable beds, a nice pool with chaise-longues (and a hammock!), and extra privacy for two in the pool house. Two of the rooms share a bath, but there is an extra W/C next door so it really isn't a problem even for unrelated travellers.

Our little group has rented several houses in France and Italy and this was definitely on of the best.

We enjoyed our stay very much!

  • 4 of 5

Mas Aurelia worked perfectly for our family of 7 adults plus a 21 month old. They also

have a crib which was very helpful. The location was excellent (once we found it). Use

google maps, not car GPS. Close to St. Remy, markets, and town center. The rooms are spacious and all the kitchen appliances worked well. We loved eating out on the patio

especially once the weather cooled down a bit.

Three highlights while staying there besides attending a family wedding. The Wednesday

market in St. Remy, Carriere Luminiere in Les Baux, and the theatre in Orange (all fairly

close by).

My husband and I never met Isabella (the property manager) but Martin (the owner) was

most cordial. Isabella did arrange a transfer for us back to the Avignon train station which

worked well.

Perfect location; well appointed villa

  • 5 of 5

Location: The property was perfectly and centrally located. St Remy de Provence is a quick few minute drive away and we had no issues finding parking in the central parking lot or the lot near the tourism office. Most everything needed around town or the major sites were within minutes away by car. Other towns were also within very reasonable drives: Avignon, Les Beaux, Apt, Marseilles. Near olive gardens, vineyards, bull show, Van Gogh Asylum, etc. A great base to explore from. A drive down to the coastal town of Cassis for a boat ride was not too unreasonable too. Both large supermarkets are within a 15 minute drive. St Remy de Provence was our favorite town after exploring many so coming back to Mas Aurelia and spending the evening in St Remy de Provence was always a treat.

The property: well-appointed with plenty of tables and chairs for 4 adults and 5 children. The separate guest house is a win for teens. BBQ'ing, taking a dip in the pool, and eating outdoors were favorites after an exciting day of exploring. The property is secured by gates and walls and the house can be locked down via its shutters. Plenty of space for kids to play and run around outside. The villa is well kept and has everything we needed - large refrigerator, washing machine, fans to keep cool, plenty of towels, dishes, cutlery, water pressure, etc. The pool had a large umbrella for sitting in the shade on sunny days. Checking in and checking out were seamless. And the two bottles of Rose were a welcome treat to kick off the vacation. A perfect two week vacation.

Great base for family vacation in Provence

  • 5 of 5

Having never visited Provence before, we chose Mas Aurelia in St. Remy-de-Provence because it seemed centrally located for day trips by car to towns in the Luberon and ancient Roman sights while providing a big enough town close by for shopping and dining. We were delighted with both the house and the area! We were 9 people made up of two families with 5 teenagers and we were very comfortable in the house, which is spacious, well-appointed and well-supplied. The pool was sparkling clean and we all enjoyed cooling off in the afternoons, enjoying a little local wine and cheese outside as the hot sun started to go down. The house is very private and secure, beautifully landscaped and hidden behind iron gates. The outdoor patio with a large dining table was so lovely that we decided to cook and eat at home 6 out of 7 nights. The grill was easy to use and the kitchen had everything we needed. Martin was very easy to work with, and at one point when we had problems with wifi, he was able to help over the phone to quickly resolve the issue. In fact, when we arrived, he had left us two lovely bottles of rose as a welcome -- very classy.

The location of the house is great with a car -- easy access to roads and the A7, and we made day trips to Pont du Gard, Arles, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gordes, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Salon de Provence, where we caught a stage of the Tour de France. Access to the Marseilles/Provence airport is a quick 45-minute drive.

St. Remy is a lovely town that is very busy in July -- lots of cafes and restaurants, charming little streets through the picturesque walled city, an incredible Wednesday morning open air market that should not be missed. The walk into town is a solid 15 minutes and the return walk is hot and slightly uphill, but parking is pretty easy in town if you don't want to walk. We would definitely rent this house again and highly recommend it as a perfect home base for a trip to the region!
