Double bed holiday cottage with open plan living room with beautiful views
Mark and Moya Hollingworth
About Mark and Moya Hollingworth
we moved to the North York Moors from West Yorkshire with a view to semi-retirement in this beautiful area, having already successfully run holiday cottages in the area for many years. On purchasing Postgate Farm we started to convert some of the old farm buildings to provide luxury self catering accommodation on site. Living in the farm house next door means we can be on hand to help guests with their stay, but we aim to leave visitors to enjoy their own private space.
Mark and Moya Hollingworth purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Mark and Moya Hollingworth chose Glaisdale
We discovered the North York Moors while travelling to our former holiday cottage on the coast at Staithes. When the opportunity came along to move our family home we looked for a property in a rural area which would give us the opportunity to develop further holiday cottages which we could manage from our own home. We discovered Postgate Farm located in Glaisdale Dale just outside Glaisdale village. The Dale is a beautiful, peaceful setting around a mile from the village of Glaisdale, with a thriving community and various amenities such as village pub, award winning butchers, post office and general store, tennis court and the Robinson Institute, home of the renowned Esk Valley Theatre Company. The village has a railway station and is served by local bus routes. As well as now being our happy family home, we have now converted some of the former barns to provide luxury self-catering holiday accommodation.
What makes this Cottage unique
Postgate Farm is set in a beautiful, peaceful location with stunning views to the South over Glaisdale Dale. The Dale itself is served by just one road which means very little traffic, yet is only a mile from the village of Glaisdale and all its amenities. Glaisdale is an ideal holiday location, with stunning walks and cycling avaiable without even getting in your car. A little further afield are other parts of the North York Moors, with pretty villages such as Goathland, Grosmont, Egton, Lealholm, Rosedale Abbey and Egton Bridge just a few minutes drive or a healthy hike away, or by using the picturesque Esk Valley Railway, which runs from Whitby to Middlesborough, and also connects to the famous North York Moors Railway, complete with steam trains, connecting to Pickering . The towns of Pickering in the heart of the North York Moors, and Whitby on the coast are less then half an hours drive away and can also be accessed by rail as mentioned above. York and Scarborough lie approximately 60 minutes drive from Glaisdale. Whether you want to see the beauty of the North York Moors with its expansive moorlands and hidden valleys or the stunning Cleveland coastline, Glaisdale is an ideal base for your stay.

The cottage and hosts were perfect from start to finish. Such a cosy, welcoming experience. Great walks and drives all around. We had everything we needed and more. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a beautiful property with uninterrupted, stunning views. The view had me entranced each time I opened the curtains; the stove was brilliantly cosy and easy to set up and clean. The kitchen had essentials greatly appreciated after a long journey- tea, coffee and biscuits! I can't stress enough how relaxing the cottage was, and how generous Mark, Moya and Shelia were. Such friendly people.
An unexpected joy we had was the friendly birds and chicks that visited the garden! Pied wagtails, Chaffinch, great tits, hedge sparrows, starlings, and a pair of cheeky jackdaws! Watching them from the window was very relaxing.
It was a great week. I would love to return to the cottage in the future.
We absolutely loved our time there
A lovely cosy cottage in the most amazing setting. We could have stayed forever!
Haven in the North Yorkshire Moors
Part of one of the buildings on the farm, ‘the nook’ was ideal for our stay in terms of location and layout.
Thanks for your review, and glad you enjoyed your stay at Postgate Farm!
I can really recommend this property if you are looking for a place off the beaten track. The property is compact to fitted out to s high spec with a fantastic log burner which adds a nice touch at night. The views from the property are breathtaking with several great walks on your door step.
Mark and Moyà were great hosts and helped with local advice. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
I will certainly return fir a short break here we loved it.
thanks for the very kind review Andy. we're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Postgate Farm; you were certainly lucky with the weather! hope to see you again some time, and keep in touch! thanks, Mark and Moya
What a magical place. A totally amazing location, cottage perfect, the best view! A fantastic place to chill and wind down. Wonderful hospitality by Sheila - loved it and will definitely be returning !
Many thanks for your kind review Jenny! Glad you enjoyed your stay with us at Postgate Farm and that Sheila looked after you while we were away. Hopefully we'll be there to meet you ourselves next time! Thanks, Mark and Moya .
Second time we've stayed at this wonderful property and location, and once again was the perfect peaceful getaway we wanted. The surrounding moors and valley are simply breathtaking in any weather, but if you have the sun and can bask outside in the private garden with nothing but 'feathery' neighbours for company it truly is bliss!!
Ideal location for various walks across the moors towards Lealholm, the Esk Valley or simply down into Glaisdale village itself. With only a 25 minute drive to Whitby, 45 minute ride to Helmsley, or a short trip to neighbouring Grosmont (where the steam train can be caught - though trains vary season to season) there is an abundance of holiday delights to pick from whatever your fancy.
The property itself is very quaint and luxurious for the perfect romantic getaway. The kitchen and bath facilities are especially good - giving that 'special treat' holiday feel.
Mark and Moya, as well as Sheila, are all welcoming, fantastic hosts and their hospitality really adds to the chilled out, relaxing escape we seek. They all really made us feel like friends and added to the wonderful experiences we've had there so far.
Would love to keep this place a secret so we can just escape there but failing that we cannot recommend either the property, location or hosts highly enough as it truly is the most relaxing and pleasant experience a couple could want when wanting to escape from daily life.
Many thanks for the very kind words Phil!
Sorry we weren't there this time but hopefully you enjoyed your second stay at Postgate Farm. Sounds like the weather has been pretty good!
hope to see you both back sometime!.
thanks again, Mark and Moya
Please note that mobile phone coverage in Glaisdale Dale is not good, depending on your provider. The cottage is attached to our house, and in the event you need the phone and have no signal then you are welcome to use our house phone. We do however have a very fast broadband connection so you should be able to use wifi calling, skype etc, please check with your provider if this is an issue for you.
