Postgate Farm is set in a beautiful, peaceful location in Glaisdale Dale, within the fabulous North York Moors National Park, yet less than half an hour from Whitby and the beautiful Cleveland coastline. The cottage has stunning views to the South over the Dale to the forests and moorlands beyond. The village has a railway station and is served by local bus routes. Glaisdale is an ideal holiday location, with stunning walks and cycling available without even getting in your car. A little further afield are other parts of the North York Moors, with pretty villages such as Goathland, Grosmont, Egton, Lealholm, Rosedale Abbey and Egton Bridge just a few minutes drive or a healthy hike away, or by using the picturesque Esk Valley Railway, which runs from Whitby to Middlesborough, and also connects to the famous North York Moors Railway, complete with steam trains, connecting to Pickering. The local bus service connects to Whitby, and the other villages of the North York Moors. The towns of Pickering in the heart of the North York Moors, and Whitby on the coast are less then half an hours drive away and can also be accessed by rail as mentioned above. York and Scarborough lie approximately 50 minutes drive from Glaisdale. Whether you want to see the beauty of the North York Moors with its expansive moorlands and hidden valleys or the stunning Cleveland coastline, Glaisdale is an ideal base for your stay.

For food and drink lovers we are surrounded by great pubs and restaurants, and for those wanting to cook for themselves, great suppliers such as award winning butchers, fishmongers and smokehouses.

About Mark and Moya Hollingworth

Mark and Moya Hollingworth moved to the North York Moors from West Yorkshire with a view to semi-retirement in this beautiful area, having already successfully run holiday cottages in the area for many years. On purchasing Postgate Farm we started to convert some of the old farm buildings to provide luxury self catering accommodation on site. Living in the farm house next door means we can be on hand to help guests with their stay, but we aim to leave visitors to enjoy their own private space.

Mark and Moya Hollingworth purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Mark and Moya Hollingworth chose Whitby

We discovered the North York Moors while travelling to our former holiday cottage on the coast at Staithes. When the opportunity came along to move our family home we looked for a property in a rural area which would give us the opportunity to develop further holiday cottages which we could manage from our own home. We discovered Postgate Farm located in Glaisdale Dale just outside Glaisdale village. The Dale is a beautiful, peaceful setting around a mile from the village of Glaisdale, with a thriving community and various amenities such as village pub, award winning butchers, post office and general store, tennis court and the Robinson Institute, home of the renowned Esk Valley Theatre Company. The village has a railway station and is served by local bus routes. As well as now being our happy family home, we have now converted some of the former barns to provide luxury self-catering holiday accommodation.

Perfect for Two!

  • 5 of 5

Echoing previous reviews, a big thank you to Mark and Moya for being such wonderful hosts of a little gem of a place. We loved everything about Postgate Nook and stayed warm and cosy throughout our blustery February week: log burner, blankets, cosy bedding and warm baths were all a treat to come back to after a day of exploring. The wine and bath bombs were also appreciated! What a beautiful place the north York Moors is - wow; we truly relaxed and enjoyed all the scenery, towns and villages, along with meeting so many friendly people. The cottage is really well placed within the area and we'd recommend it in a heartbeat for a real break from the hustle and bustle of life. Thanks again - all was perfect.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your lovely words! You certainly experienced some of the North York Moors' worst weather, but glad you enjoyed yourselves anyway! Lovely to meet you both and hope we might see you back at Postgate Farm one day.

A Real ‘Nook’ Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

What an ideal place to spend Christmas together, just the two of us. Postgate Nook had everything we required, and Mark and Moyà had even decorated the cottage with seasonal trimmings. We were ideally place: away from it all, but close to attractions such as Whitby (fish and chips at The Magpie ..mmm), Sandsend and Runswick, and a delicious traditional lunch at The Board, Lealholm. When we returned we could relax, warm and comfortable with books or TV, and that essential requisite a wood burning stove. A memorable Christmas, in a beautiful location; thank you Mark and Moyà.

get away

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay very quiet, the view was lovely and was great to look out of the window and see green fields and sheep and the cows in the next field. Mark and Moya were great helpful and left little extras, but let you get on with what you want to do but if you want any thing they are there to help would recommend that you book this cottage.
