HOME RUN is a large, kid and pet-friendly ski chalet 99 steps from the final ' Home Run' back to the village; truly, a pristine ski-in and ski-out environment. It stays pristine because vehicles cannot reach the homes above the village as we are snowed in for most of the winter. (A SUNSET magazine article described Bear Valley as the holder of the one month US snowfall record-37 feet!)

Therefore, alternative transportation such as a snowmobile ( taxi and rentals @ Bear Valley Snowmobile 209-753-2600 ) can be provided. You can walk, snowshoe and ski everywhere-we're just a mile from the lodge. Don't worry, this only adds to the adventure and kids love it.

This newly updated home is perfect for two families. The upstairs bedroom has a new queen bed and the loft has a newish fold-out couch and futon. This floor is situated so that it enjoys spectacular morning color. The first floor bedroom has a new king bed and attached tile bath with radiant heat. There is a good queen fold out couch for groups. The dining table seats ten. There is no television service at HOME RUN, but there is a SLING BOX, a ROKU home theater with NETFLIX, et al , a piano, a fireplace, a nice view and more stars than you've ever seen. It is in one of NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC's Dark Spots (AUG '08)(dark sky.org)

Many of our guests prefer the warmer seasons-colorful SPRING wildflowers on our creek, the golden aspens of AUTUMN and the splendor of a perfect BV SUMMER during our annual Music Festival. We are just a 5 minute walk to the LAKE. After a full day of activities perhaps enjoy a local fine wine in the private all-season hot tub. It is on 1300 square feet of decking and provides the setting for a stunning alpenglow experience.

Those who love Bear Valley for its solitude also appreciate the ease of the journey. There are no mountain passes to traverse hence no avalanche closures. Just straight up uncrowded Hwy. 4 from Murphys through the foothill's wine country. Only 30 snow miles-4,000-8,000' to the summit near Ebbetts Pass. This wide US SCENIC BYWAY , HWY 4 is always open with two Cal- Trans stations in the half hour drive. This is the closest ski resort to the Bay Area and definitely the easiest to travel.

The summer presents an even more magnificent approach from the east, if you are so inclined. If you have never exited Yosemite or Tahoe and come to BV over Monitor and Ebbetts Passes...well, do it.

Feel free to stop at Val du Vino winery in Murphys and receive our discount.

*** Please open the attached US SCENIC BYWAY link if you have further interest in this extraordinary wilderness area @ www.scenic4.org ***

This is a tight, cozy ski chalet on a ridge above Bear Valley Village and as Lloyd Bridges once said in a TV piece..'Bear Valley is the hidden treasure of the Sierra.'

*** Welcome Spring . Warm sun, booming rivers, good snow melt***

Seasonal and week long discounts are available.

Even though there have been many upgrades, we have not raised prices in years, enjoy!

About Terry

Although we live in Monterey, Bear Valley is our much- beloved sanctuary.

Terry purchased this chalet in 1990

Why Terry chose Bear Valley

My brother and I were skiing the central Sierra in the late 80's and never left. The idea of being in a Wilderness area at this altitude in a town of 125 people but with full amenities was extremely compelling.

Cozy, clean and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

My family loved staying the weekend in Bear Valley! We love the small town and rustic feel and the community is down to earth and super friendly. The Sullivan cabin was gorgeous! Totally clean, great location and so comfortable it felt like home. We appreciated it so much that we took extra time to use the on-site washer and dryer and leave the cabin as beautiful as we found it. The hot tub was one of our favorite features and the downstairs Master had the comfiest bed! I loved making meals in the gourmet kitchen looking out onto the substantial dining table. The kids loved playing in the snow right outside and coming in by the roaring fire. Great cabin!

Nice small cabin and great for vacation.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a ski week. We knew it would be an adventure and a learning experience on the Bear Valley snowmobile situation. But it was a blast. Terry provides a nice snowmobile for transporting family and gear to and from the parking lot. Nice warm cabin which we all enjoyed. There were a couple issues, but Terry dealt with us well. We had no cell service, but the wifi worked great, so we had good communication on the computer, and wifi calling on the phones, which was important. The TV programming seemed to work fine. We never had an interest to use it with so much outdoor activity to do, but one of the kids was at the cabin one day nursing an injury, and they utilized it easily. We would definitely stay again!

A rustic and snowy adventure!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous weekend getaway, and got immersed in the local Bear Valley winter culture. The roads aren't plowed, so everyone in town uses snowmobiles and skis to get around. Our planned getaway landed in the midst of a snowstorm, so we were very happy to meet up with the host's caretaker, Marty. He helped us figure out the snowmobile situation, and he got us settled in to the cabin.

The home itself is rustic and comfortable, with modern amenities. The hot tub was a plus, especially after a long day of skiing. (Getting a movie up on Netflix was a challenge, but we had kids who could help figure out the remotes.) On our last day, the storm lifted and left blue skies and several feet of fresh powder. The kids dug snow caves and went sledding, and we squeezed every ounce of fun into our last few hours before driving home.

The whole family agreed that we'd be happy to come back.

family fun

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend on the slopes in Bear Valley. Terry was fabulous with communication and checking in with us during our stay. The cabin is conveniently located close to the lifts. We loved soaking in the hot tub and making fires in the fireplace after long days on the mountain. Kitchen was fully stocked for our home cooked family meals, and the giant table was perfect for games and conversation. We were glad we brought a couple sleeping bags for our teenagers who wanted to couch it. The cabin was more rustic than we thought from the photos, but it was great for a family of teenagers and a dog.

Spacious and well appointed cabin, perfect for a winter ski break with the family

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 stayed at home run for our first time skiing at bear valley. The cabin was easy to find, spacious, warm and had everything we needed. Despite a foot and a half of snow falling while we were there, we were able to drive up and park at the cabin in our subaru outback with no difficulty. The ski resort is only an easy 15 min drive away. Terry was very accessible and helpful when we had questions, and kindly accommodated our dog at the last minute. The kids had fun sledding on the hill below the cabin. The hot tub was brand new and much appreciated after a hard day skiing. We'll be back!

A cozy house in a lovely spot

  • 4 of 5

My family and I had a lovely long weekend in the beginning of February. The house was clean and cozy, the beds were comfortable and we enjoyed playing in the tiny bit of snow that surrounded the cabin. Terry was very helpful and easy to work with.
