We are a retired high school teacher and biologist who have lovingly restored our 1892 Victorian home. The upstairs apartment has a separate entrance and an outdoor patio to view our private California native garden. The apartment has a wonderful, inviting 'homey' feel and includes antiques from estate sales and other family possessions.
As you enter the foyer, sunlight pours in from an old skylight put in by the citrus growers who lived in the home. The bathroom includes a claw foot tub and an antique corner sink. The fully equipped kitchen also has a skylight which looks out on a 75-year-old pomegranate tree.
All the rooms have gabled, beaded-board ceilings which have been painted a lovely 'Martha Stewart' green. People who have stayed here, have remarked that the apartment has a spacious, airy and light feel to it. The dining area will sit four people at the harvest table. This room also includes a small 'fainting couch' and two parlor chairs. The bedroom features a full - sized 4-poster bed. The main living area has a pull out couch, a television. Free WI-FI is available throughout.
The small patio area sits under our pomegranate tree and the wrought iron table and 2 chairs make it a perfect spot for afternoon tea.
One can walk to the Claremont Colleges which offer guest lecturers, concerts, theatre and art museums. The downtown village area has many unique coffee houses, boutiques and gift shops. The Metrolink train station which also is within walking distance can take you to downtown Los Angeles in about 45 minutes. Disneyland, beaches and mountain areas such as Lake Arrowhead are also available in under an hour's driving time.
We are happy to provide you with any information you may need regarding our much loved Claremont

We are a retired couple who love living here in Claremont. We are active in the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens. We have raised three incredible daughters, one of whom lives in Madagascar. The other two live in the Los Angeles area. We enjoy traveling, gardening and restoring 'this old house'.
Laura & Charles Burt purchased this apartment in 2000
My husband's mother, a retired public health care doctor, moved to Claremont in the '60s and before that my husband's great aunt, moved here in the early 50's so we were very familiar with the area and always loved visiting. During one of our visits, we happened to walk past a real estate office with pictures of homes for sale. We were taken by one which read '3rd oldest house in Claremont ....'as is' condition!' We were able to go inside and were both taken by the character and soul of the place but dismayed by the terrible condition that it was in. Given we still had jobs in New Mexico and also the fact that we didn't have to live in the house while some of the major work was getting done, we went ahead and bought it. My sister-in-law rented the upstairs for 4 years and after she moved to Pasadena, we decided to make it a VRBO property. We are so glad we did! We have been very fortunate in the guests that have stayed here these last 4 years and also the freedom to have it available for our friends and family when visiting. They love having the whole upstairs to themselves.
The style we created was 'cottage-cosy' with the feel that you are 'right at home'. For those people visiting the colleges, it is within a very short walk. There are lots of place to get to on foot so exploring Claremont is a bit part of the fun here. We love this town and love to let you know about our favorite places to visit - whether it's for hiking, quiet walks, restaurants or unique stores - we are here to make your visit a pleasant one.
We spent a month here with our 2 children as we were relocating to Southern California. Laura and Chuck could not have been more hospitable! Their apartment was spacious and homey enough for the four of us. We had access to the back porch where we enjoyed the cool fall evenings after some unusually hot days. The neighborhood was within walking distance of the kids new school and the village with its library, coffee shops, was only a 5-minute walk. We really liked staying here and would highly recommend the place.
We just spent two weeks here while visiting our daughter in Claremont. We walked to the village shops and to our daughter's home, six blocks either way. We visited the beautiful new Pomona College physics building (daughter being an alumna) and LA museums. With overnight temps averaging 60 during our stay, good breezes came in the open windows. It is a fully equipped apartment with everything we needed, and Laura and Chuck were friendly hosts.
We just spent 5 nights at this house for the Pomona Graduation. My two adult sons stayed with us. One on the fold out couch and one on a blow up mattress in the living area. Plenty of room for all of us. You can walk to the coffee shop, restaurants and 5C colleges. Pomona is four blocks away. The owners are terrific. They helped us alot and they are also extremely nice folks.
If you want to take kids here they would love being upstairs and it is like my grandma's house. Lots of dishes and large refrigerator, place to cook, microwave and big table to eat at. We loved the claw foot tub. I used it every morning, listening to all the birds sing outside. Claremont is a fun town with lots to do besides visiting college kids.
If you have college students at the 5Cs this is close. I wish I had know about this house four years ago!!
Laura and Chuck are warm hosts. Thanks
This is a lovely little apartment withing easy walking distance to Pomona and the village. Laura and Chuck could not have made it any easier for me. They were helpful and fun to talk with. The apartment was perfect for me (one person) but would have been good for more.
Just a note...if you are planning to walk from the train station...it's a bit more than two blocks when you have to following the streets. Still fine if you are traveling light.
Perfect if you are visiting kids at Pomona or Claremont. I'm not that familiar with the other colleges so can't comment on that.
I was in town from Florida to visit my son at Pomona College and thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. It has character and charm. I loved listening to and watching the birds in the backyard and the owner's could not have been more helpful and friendly. The apt. was perfect for my needs.
Thank you to Laura and Chuck for your warm welcome to the Claremont neighborhood. We had a lovely time in your house and thoroughly enjoyed the space with our two small boys. There were so many parks and eateries within easy walking distance that even though I didn't have a stroller it was very easy to get around.
The apartment itself was perfect fit for us, with enough private space that we could have guests while the kids slept. We loved the old charm of the clawfoot tub and the angled ceilings. Laura and Chuck were friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again if we're in the area.
Thank you for sharing your home!
How very fortunate my husband, daughter and I were to spend 4 days in this wonderful and welcoming apartment while visiting Pomona. Our daughter had a respite from summer dorm life and we had lovely mornings in the dining/sitting room or outside by the pomegranate tree with breakfast, breezes and birds. The three of us were easily accommodated using the bedroom and sleep sofa in the living room that are just as comfortable as other reviewers have described. We cooked simple meals (and also enjoyed the wonderful restaurants in Claremont) and found everything we needed to do that. I particularly enjoyed the extra long claw foot tub in the bathroom with the easy-to-use hand held shower and the luxurious towels - more than all of us needed for our stay. The apartment has terrific light and air from its many windows and charming and comfy furnishings. The "fainting couch" was a terrific place to spend some quiet time reading. The apartment was very clean and everything worked they way it should. The owners, Laura and Chuck, were kind and helpful in suggesting places to visit and providing off-street parking. I would return in a heartbeat if available; we have two more years to visit Claremont so I'm hoping that will happen.
