Wake up in the best village location in home owned by a famous local family.....

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,022 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

The best sea front location 2 bed/bath apartment of charm and character in town

We consider ourselves very fortunate to be able to offer this beautiful apartment 'Bella Vista' which is owned by one of the famous families of Villefranche sur Mer.

There is history linked to this apartment and you can feel or imagine it once you are inside. This is surely one of the loveliest and most spacious apartments in the old town. Benefiting from being right on the quayside where all the action is and yet a surprisingly peaceful haven where you will feel immediately at home.....

Enter the first floor of the apartment and you will be greeted by a classy, typically french apartment, decorated in traditional style and adorned with colourful paintings by local artists. The view is directly over the bay overlooking possibly one of the most beautiful views on the Riviera which has been famously used as a backdrop in so many memorable movies.

There only a few steps to climb to enter the apartment.

The apartment has two comfortable bedrooms, one of which has sea views and is ensuite. There are two bathrooms.

The galley designed kitchen also has views out onto the sparkling Mediterranean. You will be inspired to concoct a Mediterranean banquet. It comes fully equipped with an oven, four-ring hob, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher and American fridge freezer with ice machine.

The apartment is fully air conditioned.

Bella Vista is 96 square metres

The location (see map) is the best in town. Surrounded by restaurants and minutes from the sea front and beach. The train is seven minutes walk away. The street is a car free zone and parking is available close by in the public car park or the citadel. However, a car is not essential as the public transport is excellent.

About Mattie Silman

Hi, I am Mattie and I manage this apartment which as I said is owned by one of the famous families of Villefranche. It would be wrong of me to reveal their identity but when you arrive they will greet you and I am sure they will tell you about the history of their family. I know you will find it very interesting. As for me I bought my apartment 'Artistes Tresor' in 2002. I had never been to Villefranche or heard of it for that matter. I came to Nice for three days (I hadn't been there either) and on the first day looked at a couple of properties in Nice. I was then told about Villefranche and we drove around the bay where I fell instantly in love with the place. I sold my house to buy my apartment and as it was a lot more money than I could afford I had to start a business. That's how came about. Local people I met asked me to market their properties.

Mattie Silman purchased this apartment in 2002

Why Mattie Silman chose Villefranche-sur-Mer

I love the location of this property and I know that our visitors will love it too. It has a great kitchen for those who love cooking which is a clue to the identity of the owners.

What makes this apartment unique

It is in the heart of the old town right on the promenade and has the magnificent gorgeous sea view and yet is surprisingly quiet inside.......

Best location!

Up the cobblestone back alley where thieves and fishermen plied their trade 400 years ago, is a secret passageway that weaves history with the modern.

As you enter the cool, upgraded apartment you are met with large windows, and stunning views of the sea spread out directly in front of your balcony overlook g the most hip street in Villefranche.

Seeped in local culture, enjoy your sunset wine sitting on your balcony above the colorful restaurants and fishing boats ... you can jump into the clear water and swim, hire a boat, or go on a cliff side hike right outside your door.

If you enjoy cooking, there’s a full modern kitchen , comfortable quarters with lots of space.. quiet and cool, ... great hostess is available at all times.

Bring your book and sit above the ocean wondering where to go next or what to do, or nothing at all.

I must admit, with all the restaurants and shopping within 2 min walking , we never wanted to cook!

It was perfect.

Will def return...

San Diego, Ca

A lovely property in a great location.

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Villefranche, despite some days of rain. The apartment is well located with an amazing view. The kitchen was very well equipped but I confess we never cooked a meal! Americans should be aware that the approach to the property is through a rather dark alley with a substantial amount of outdoor stairs.. Once inside, all is lovely. The owner is delightful and the family story is quite heartwarming. Visitors who would like a beach alternative should know that Passable beach on St. Jean Cap Ferrat has a shuttle boat that leaves right in front of the apartment, takes you to the beach across the water and will return you to Villelfranche later in the day....

Stayed in Bella Vista for 2 truly wonderful weeks with my wife and youngest daughter (age 13). The apartment couldn't be better positioned or equipped. And waking up to those glorious views every morning was just magical especially watching the sun rise over St. Jean Cap Ferrat. Beautiful! Another pleasant surprise for us was that when you close the shutters and balcony windows for the night to retire, it is surprisingly quiet and peaceful.

We didn't have a car as you certainly don't need one. The village of Villefranche-sur-Mer has everything you could need from shops, supermarkets, restaurants, cafe's and a wonderful beach. We also walked to Beaulieu-sur-Mer and to St Jean Cap Ferrat - both stunningly beautiful and easy to get to on foot. There is also a train station at Villefranche which we took regularly. Trains are roughly every half an hour and you can travel quickly and cheaply along much of the Cote d'Azur. During our stay we used the train to visit Cannes, Antibes, Juan les Pin, Menton, Nice and Monaco. We also travelled to Eze Village (though for Eze you need to catch the train to Eze-sur-Mer and then hop on a bus up to the village). All very easy and quicker than a car. Whilst in Villefranche we also hired a boat from Dark Pelican and had a lovely day going around Cap Ferrat to Beaulieu and back, anchoring off at little bays and having a picnic or a swim around. We'd never hired a boat before incidentally but it was very easy to pilot and navigate - highly recommend it if you get the chance.

As for Mattie, I'd like to give her 5 stars too. She was always extremely helpful, always got back to us very quickly, often within minutes actually and was always available. Best recommendation I could give her is that I would certainly book through her again without question. Thank you Mattie. The same goes for the owner of Bella Vista who met us and gave us the key on arrival. She was the perfect 'meet and greet' host, showing us around, explaining how everything worked and once again was always there if we needed to ask her anything. Please pass on our gratitude to her Mattie.

The only sad thing to report is that we finally had to leave. However, I am sure we will be back - sooner rather than later.

Owner's Response: I am delighted to hear that guests are happy and the best recommendation is that they don't want to leave. The very best is that they come back so we get to know them as regular visitors. It is a great privilege to be able to welcome people to Villefranche which is a haven in this special and most beautiful part of the country.... I look forward to welcoming many more visitors and will continue to make every effort to provide them with great service. Hope to see you soon! Mattie

Lovely location and apartment

  • 4 of 5

I found our dealings with Mattie to be average/poor. Firstly, the price advertised was not the price we paid ! After booking on owners direct we got an email stating that the price had increased because of the difference in value on euros! Absolutely ridiculous. Also Mattie failed on owners direct to state that actually the price doesn't include a 'service charge' ?! Essentially this is for the property to be 'cleaned', which one would expect in any event and surely should be included in the price advertised?! When I addressed this, I was informed that it was clearly stated on the website, well the one i was subsequently sent - yes, which notably was not the owners direct websites that I had booked on! I sent Mattie several subsequent emails asking whether the room had a travel cot, and although she replied to the emails she just wouldn't answer the question and stated I should ask the owner Valerie! I was also told, we must book the taxi via Valerie, as it would be cheaper. This isn't true and I recommended you get a cab from the airport, which will roughly be 45-55 euros.

Valerie was lovely and charming. The property was in a stunning location. It's spacious and well equipped. It's in an excellent location in the middle of Old town, 5 minutes to the beach. Lots of restaraunts close by.

There is also a deposit to be paid on arrival (this again isn't advertised by Mattie on Owners direct) however provided no damage is caused, it is paid straight back to you.

I must admit my husband was very miffed on leaving the property, that he was expected to take the rubbish out ! Surely this should be included in the cleaning charge?

Overall, the apartment is in a great location and we enjoyed our stay. There are plenty of restaraunts close by, and it was enjoyable eating on the balcony with a beautiful view.

Valerie has plenty of information in the apartment about Villefranche. I recommend that you visit Monaco and Nice. The train station is a 5-7 minute walk away and the trains are very regularly. No need for a car!

The beach is lovely, but stony rather than sand!

Owner's Response: I am really sorry that this guest found my responses poor which I must say is a surprise as I have an email from them thanking me for my quick responses. 1. The service charge is clearly explained on the price list and I confirm this charge at time of enquiry. 2. The price is confirmed at booking and is set in euros. In this case the guest paid in sterling and there need an adjustment to the euro which sometimes works in favour of the guest also. To avoid this guests can pay the full fee at time of booking. 3. I was not aware there was an issue with speaking to the owner of the property about requiring a cot or high chair. I would have been happy to liaise if I had been made aware this was an issue but it is more practical if arranged with the the owner to make sure the item is in place. 3. Madam Blouin has informed me that she explained that the taxi if booked through her would cost €55 but that they could take an Uber if they have the app. Uber have only just started to operate from Nice and I was not aware of this at the time of booking. Guests might like to download the Uber app in future. However, I have never found a taxi from the airport less than €55 so please take care. 4. We understand that we have to clean the apartment after our guests leave. Madame Blouin commented that in this case the apartment was left in an very dirty state which may be why she insisted on removal of the rubbish. I am delighted that the guest enjoyed their holiday and I am sure future guests will enjoy this beautiful apartment also. We look forward to welcoming you. Mattie

Luxury apartment overlooking harbour

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing break in this beautiful, luxury apartment at the harbour, near excellent restaurants and the beach. The owner was lovely and welcomed us personally. It was a very peaceful location, yet only a short walk from the train station which made it easy to explore the south of France. I strongly recommend it

Villefranche is situated 4km from Nice Centre and 7km from Nice International airport. A well kept secret as it retains its charm due to lack of major hotels nearby. You can happily spend all your time in the Village discovering its wonderful history and why artists such as Jean Cocteau and Sommerset Maughan loved this area so much. In the 60s the music of the Rolling Stones could be heard across the bay from their villa on Cap Ferrat. Yet the village still retains its authentic feeling. If you do wish to venture forth, the train which is 1 minute away runs all along the coast. Nice or Monaco are ten mins away or you can be in Italy (Ventimiglia) in 40 mins. The village of Eze is 20 mins by car or St Paul de Vence, Cannes and Antibes about 40 mins. A car is not essential and the walks here are fabulous. There is parking nearby. This is the best location on this fabulous coast by far. The French language School, Institute Francais, is a 20 minute walk away.
