Guestbook comments from the manager

Bonjour M. Whitehil,

Mme Bocquet.

All linen is provided within the quoted prices. A cot is available at no extra charge. A fully compliant pool fence is fitted and we have tried to make the cottage child friendly. There is a wooden stairgate fitted at the top and bottom of the hard wood stairs for the safety of children and to encourage our 4 legged guests to stay downstairs. We have just fitted handrails in the shower in the annexe although need to point out that there are a couple of steps into and around the cottage.

Return stay in this beautiful farm house

  • 4 of 5

This is the only time I have returned to the same holiday location a second time.

Having shared a wonderful holiday with my family here I wanted to share this treasure of a house and locations with my husbands family.

The house is a great location for a family holiday with the added bonus on a pool.

The garden is beautifully tranquil overlooking the French countryside.

Highly recommended

Superb 2 weeks in a lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a superb 2 weeks holiday in this lovely cottage. The weather was great if maybe a little too hot! 37 degrees at times. So the cool pool was a godsend during or at the end of a long hot day.The cottage itself had everything we needed. A large kitchen and great living room, with room for everyone and a big enough table outside where we ate on our nights in. English TV, wi-fi and plenty of books and games, and table tennis all got well used. The local town of St Saud has a nice pattiserie, handy local shop and a bar which is nice to sit out in on the small square and have a drink or fairly cheap meal. Most other restaurants or attractions are a 15-30 minute drive but so much of eaither that makes the drive worthwhile. Very quiet roads. We went Canoeing in Brantome, went to market in Brantome on the Friday, an especially lovely town, cycling in Chalus on the old railtrack, zip wire at Nontron. Be aware though that dont exactly sign post all the attractions very well so you need eagle eyes or someone who can ask for directions in French!! Good food in many places locally, Champs Romain, Brantome, St Saud etc. Family of 8 with 4 older kids and a great time was had by all and all things being equal we would love to go back again.

Very relaxing, fabulous house and location

  • 5 of 5

2 families of 4 staying for a week and we had a cracking time. We drove down from Calais and arrived later in the afternoon of the Saturday. We were fortunate to have an Indian Summer type of week and spent the time in shorts and tees. Lots of local attractions and places to visit. Thoroughly recommended and we will come back.

We still dream of Puydoyeux !

  • 5 of 5

We had a 3 week-holyday to dream of in these beautiful house with all you need to enjoy.

The pool was a daily attraction in this beautiful and hot summer days.

Very quit location in a picturesque hamlet with only 1 permanent inhabitant.

We enjoyed the nature and the garden with a lot of wild animals around.

Fully equipped house with plenty of rooms so we could invite our friends to stay with us for a while, marvelous.

There is now also an internet connection what opens a lot of perspectives.

Alan was very kind to give us the possibility to arrive the night before and leave a day later so we had no heavy traffic around Paris.

We surely hope to come back one day.

Owner's Response: I always get satisfaction from giving guests accurate information and their subsequent enjoyment of their holiday. Gerard, Ann & Bavo were lovely guests, I think they left the house in better shape than when they arrived. Jealous of the weather they enjoyed and being able to kick back and enjoy the house for 3 weeks. Come back soon.

A perfect family holiday in rural France

  • 4 of 5

A perfect holiday for my family, (three generations). This lovely rural house, with its large garden and pool provided for all our needs and this, combined with two weeks of ‘wall-to-wall’ sunshine and daily temperatures of 30o + allowed everyone in the party time and space to totally ‘chill-out’.

A very quiet and undisturbed location, the house is one of only a handful of houses in the pretty little hamlet of Puydoyeux. Open fields and woodlands surround the hamlet.

The village of St Saud-La-Coussière, just a few minutes by car, or bike, provides for all immediate daily needs and then a number of small towns, all within a short drive, have good Supermarkets, shops and open markets. The Friday market in Brantome is to be recommended.

The local lakes, (several of them), provide good family fun. Brantome and time on the River Dronne in a kayak or canoe is a great adventure and a must for all the family. The ‘Grotte de Villar’ caves are well worth a visit too.

As a family we were more than contented to laze by the pool, play in the garden, watch the abundant wild life and just make the most of the outdoors and glorious sunshine. Every meal on the patio for two weeks – delightful!

The service from the owner, Alan Whitehill, was excellent. It’s always nice to find some ‘essentials’ waiting in a welcome pack on arrival. Alan’s local ‘team’ in France were there to service the pool, cut the grass and to ensure everything was fine during our stay.

A wonderful holiday

Peaceful retreat in a beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

This house has everything and more that you could need for a holiday in France, from bikes to cool bags! We even had the pleasure to meet Sue the neighbour who completed the stay with even more helpful guidance on local shops and places to visit if the already overflowing books and leaflets provided didnt give you enough ideas! The pool was brilliant as the weather peaked at plus thirty degrees and the on the spot walk route across the road was brilliant as my husband and I had the pleasure of spotting a pair of deers in the woods on an early morning walk! an ideal location for exploring the area, Brantome a must visit!

Set in a hamlet above the valley of the River Dronne Puydoyeux is a 2km walk from the village of St Saud La Coussiere. The house is well placed for visits to Brantome, Perigueux and the medieval towns of Sarlat & Beynac. There are a number of weekly markets in the towns around the region and the town of Limoges is only 1 hour away.
