About Christel Johnstone

Born in the Central Belt of Scotland I spent many years overseas. In 1992 I left the Falkland Islands and brought my 3 daughters to this Highland village. The plan was to spend a few years here and introduce the girls gently to the BIG world. It didn't take long for us to decide that we would settle right here.. Balintore is a charming place to live. Even when "busy" the beach is not crowded, and the locals are friendly and welcoming. Although some might think we are isolated, we are less than an hour from Inverness Airport.. and the rest of the world.

In 2006 I married local lad David and together, over the years, we've watched our 5 children grow, spread their wings, and settle around the world... But we all still call Balintore HOME..

Christel Johnstone purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Christel Johnstone chose Tain

David inherited Kintail and has wonderful memories of times spent there. After much thought we decided to renovate it and offer it as a Holiday Cottage for rent. After the success of our first cottage, 8 1/2 John Street, I'm looking forward to meeting many more new guests.

What makes this cottage unique

Centrally located in the picturesque village of Balintore, Easter Ross, Kintail Cottage is a lovingly renovated cottage offering 2 bedroom luxury holiday accommodation. The cottage is situated in the centre of the village just over the road from the shores of the Moray Firth, just minutes from the beach, harbour and open countryside. The newly renovated cottage offers the character of a traditional cottage with all the convenience and luxury of contemporary fittings and design. There is full central heating, a modern kitchen/diner, flat screen TV and WiFi. After spending a day at the beach or exploring the surrounding countryside take an evening stroll to the local Inn for your nightcap and a chat before settling down in the cosy sitting room for a snooze.

You can take advantage of our long summer days and enjoy the peaceful back garden. The garden is set on 2 level, the lower offering seating and barbecue area, while the upper area provides a large green with a cosy summerhouse tucked under the trees.

Kintail is an ideal location to unwind or exploring the Highlands.

A beautiful, peaceful home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is perfect for a family looking to explore the Easter-Ross area of Scotland and enjoy the ocean. It’s beautifully maintained, everything we needed there and more. Our host was lovely and welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to relax during our trip!

This place is a gem! The cottage is lovely, very roomy and comfortable.

We loved our stay at Kintail cottage. The property has been newly renovated with all the modern amenities a person could want yet it maintains the character of a traditional village dwelling. We didn’t use the back yard but it is very large and would be a great place for kids (or adults) to play outside or just visit on a nice day. The location is peaceful and quiet. It’s located in an area that affords easy access to exploring northern Scotland. Christel, the host, couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. I would definitely consider staying here again.

A peaceful, comfortable stay in the North of Scotland

  • 5 of 5

Christel was extremely helpful both before and during our stay at Balintore. The house was spotless and very comfortable with everything you could think of supplied. Wonderful views across the Moray Firth from all the rooms, an Inn serving very tasty food 100 yds down the road and a small but well stocked supermarket 200 yds in the other direction. Such a scenic area, we could have spent much longer here (4nights) than we did and will almost certainly go back and enjoy the house and area again. We saw the dolphins in the sea outside the property just as we were leaving.

Well appointed, spotless cottage in beautiful part of Scotland.

  • 4 of 5

The cottage had everything one would need to make a very successful stay for a holiday whatever the weather.Positioned in a lovely quiet village though easily accessible to the A9 to be able to venture further afield and visit other areas of the Highlands. Village offered well stocked Spar shop, chemist and pub. Lovely walks along the coast with the possibility of seeing some dolfins !! Good beach for children .
