Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This is a luxurious cottage with pool about a 1.5 hour drive from Charlottesville on a 300 acre farm in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Perfect for a romantic weekend or family getaway.

Cost is $225 a night plus vrbo service fee. Minimum stay is 2 nights.

The cottage consists of a huge window-filled kitchen/dining/living area, made with the finest materials. The hardwood floors are spectacular rustic oak. The kitchen has the latest appliances and wonderful red granite countertops. The living area has a gas fireplace with HDTV and DirecTV, and a comfortable queen-sized sofa bed.

It also includes a bedroom with fireplace, big-screen TV and king-size bed with memory foam mattress.

The cottage sits alone in its own valley, and the farm has spectacular hills, meadows, and woods. It features soaring views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with over a mile of border with the beautiful George Washington National Forest.

Privacy and intimacy go along with the gorgeous landscape. You will be the only people on the farm. From the entire farm, no other houses are visible, despite the stunning views of 20 miles or more. Dozens of deer make their home on the farm and snack on the apple trees around the cottage. In summer there are cows munching away on the grass.

Recreational Equipment: The fishing pond (stocked with catfish, bass and perch) has a paddle boat. Fishing rods available. There is a golf cart and four mountain bikes. There are three kayaks for use on the nearby Cow Pasture River. The kayaks are a short 8' long, so they fit in most cars. Plus there are car racks available.

There's a pool right outside your door, via a rather whimsical bridge from the deck to a jumping platform. Do you dare?

To give you an idea of how large 300 acres is, it would take you about an hour to walk to the back of the farm. We gladly accept pets. The farm has always had pets, and they love it there.

The bathroom has marble floors, ceramic tiles, and a jetted tub with a view of the wilderness. The two-sided deck allows you to sip your morning coffee while looking out over the valley, watching the mist roll through.

Sleeping accommodations consist of the king-sized bed in the bedroom, a queen-sized sofa-bed, a self-inflating queen airbed, and three self-inflating twin airbeds (all 22' high), so you can mix and match as needed.

Wander the farm to your heart's delight. Swim to your hearts content. Fish in the pond. Check out a nearby river swimming hole right out of Tom Sawyer. Careen about on the mountain bikes or the golf cart. Go kayaking!

Beautiful Private Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at Ellen's cottage. The property is HUGE! And our dog absolutely loved running around and even riding in the golf cart with us. The cottage comes equipped with everything you'd need for an enjoyable stay. It has an excellent cozy yet modern feel. Perfect for those of us used to a city lifestyle but would still like the feel of being "away from it all". Before we even left my boyfriend and I were talking about coming back again! Highly recommend!!!

The pool as perfectly maintained as well as the house. The Jacuzzi doesn't work, and left side front burner. Everything else was a jewel ready to be found. The golf cart and pond with the paddle boat was sonmuch fun! There were so many activities that was made available to us. The kitchen is amazingly stocked with all th e necessary tools to cook. How many grills and fire places were offered? Let's just say we were spoiled!! I can't say enough how much fun we had. We will be returning. Oh...bonus was amazing customer service. Go checkout out for yourself...you won't regret it. The views....oh the perfect views of the mountains! 😀?

Home away from home!!!!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was absolutely amazing. Very secluded which I absolutely loved but also felt very secure. I have never stayed in a vacation rental where I felt so at home. Spotless from top to bottom, fully stocked with everything you could imagine (food is all you need), amenities galore, and absolutely breathtaking views. My 13 year old son, my dog and myself stayed this past weekend. We spent the mornings exploring the property in the golf cart, the afternoons in the pool (diving board, jumping platform and even rafts were provided) At night we cooked on the grill, made s'mores around the fire pit and then came inside to relax in front of the big screen tv. Our last day there we visited the cow pasture and drove down to the river to explore. I could go on and on about this place!!! If your hesitant about booking, don't be. We will most definitely be returning next year for a longer stay. Also, reservations were a breeze. Jim was great, quick to respond to every email and I couldn't have asked for more detailed driving or property directions. Essie (caretaker) was also fantastic. Super friendly and very informative. One of the best mini vacations we have ever had!

Quiet Mountain Retreat

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place for a relaxing getaway! Our two setters joined us for some isolation and exploration, and we were not disappointed. The home is well-appointed with a quaint yet upgraded homey feel to it - warm hardwood flooring, beautiful built-ins, windows throughout, a most comfortable king-sized bed, soft linens, plenty of towels, and a kitchen stocked with pots, pans, dishes & appliances make it move-in ready for anyone's vacation. All of the outdoor extras - views, acreage, cushy outdoor seating, pool, decks, picnic tables, fire pits, golf cart, kayaks, fishing poles, paddleboat, bikes, firewood, etc. - complete the all-inclusive experience. We would highly recommend this home to couples with dogs as well as families with smaller children. The owners were a pleasure to work with, and Essie was a pleasure to meet.

Always the best! LOVE THIS PLACE..

  • 5 of 5

We miss "Ellen's Cottage" when we don't go see it for a few months. This is one of the most unforgettable places. Beautiful scenery. Peace and quiet. Swam in the pool. Grilled by the pool. Hiked - golf carted - romped. Fabulous.

Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay. The kids loved swimming. The family's favorite activity was fishing on the pond. The porch was a perfect place to relax and enjoy the views. The cottage was clean and beautiful! Thank you for a wonderful vacation! We can't wait to come back again!
