Overview

About the property

The Villa where Anthony Quinn (Alexis Zorbas) danced the famous “syrtaki”

The first sight upon entering this villa is the breathtaking view across the infinity pool into Stavros sea and mountain, famous from the 1964 Oscar nominated film “Zorbas the Greek” with Anthony Quinn. Our villa is the house where Anthony Quinn (Alexis Zorbas) lived in and the beach in front of the villa is the beach where he danced the famous “syrtaki”.

The villa features a infinity edge swimming pool and sunbathing terrace with luxurious high quality sun loungers and umbrellas. Sometimes, especially in the evening is very difficult to distinguish the pool water from the water of the sea… The outdoor seating area, complete with pizza oven, BBQ, bar and lounge area, provides guests with ample space to enjoy outdoor living at its very finest, both day and night, with glamorous lighting illuminating the terraces once evening sets. Surrounded by a luxuriant Mediterranean garden and stoned terraces, its gates will lead you directly into the limpid, translucent waters of Stavro's sea... unless, of course, you prefer the infinity pool and its hydromassage corner!

The patio, filled with climbing plants and geraniums is the perfect place to enjoy breakfasts and lunches on the shaded terrace where the island’s brisk breezes the cool area.

An ideal place for our little ones also where they can enjoy themselves on the playground and the basketball court.

Every year we are trying to improve your staying and we are updating our facilities.

We added a luxurious swing chair with stand and a very comfortable huge chair...It s difficult to describe it, it s better to seat on it.

We also provide a professional ping pong table and a new football table with telescoping steel rods and steel ball bearings.

Step back in time and spend an idyllic holiday experiencing Cretan living from a beautifully restored village house on the historic island of Crete.

Wonderful and special stay in beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

The property and its location is absolutely amazing. You are literally right on the beach with the sea breeze and it is lovely. Our boys really enjoyed the pool, basketball court and table tennis. Having these in the house means you can relax but that the kids have enough to keep them entertained. We ate out at the nearby restaurant with the windmill (which was really good) but also enjoyed staying in and using the BBQ and pizza oven area of the gardens. A trip into Chania is well worth it.

Manolis was very friendly and helpful - the baklava was very tasty.

We would thoroughly recommend this holiday home - it is absolutely beautiful and will not disappoint.

Perfect relaxing family holiday destination!

  • 5 of 5

Everything that has been said in the previous reviews is true & we too absolutely loved this beautiful villa & Cretan hospitality.

Dimitris the owner & Manolis the property manager were extremely helpful, generous [giving us local food specialities] & kind throughout, even supplying 'Zorba the Greek' film for us to watch, which was great.

They have added a new 'table football' so with the table tennis, basket ball, bikes, playground for little ones, lovely [natural chlorine] pool, clear blue sea & sandy beach a step away, there is more than enough to keep all ages very happy indeed!

We loved the bay and the tavernas [esp.the windmill one] and the fact that this is a quiet unspoilt area, with No noisy jet skis or motor boats.

Frequent cooling sea breeze and very few mozzies an added bonus!

The bus goes approx. every 2 hours from down the road to Chania for 2.30 Euros, a scenic 35 min.ride well worth doing if you want to go shopping, enjoy a few beers and a nice meal [so many restaurants to choose from, all along the beautiful harbour] at sunset.

There is much more to see & visit across the island, but to be honest we loved the villa, garden, pool & locality so much [& just being able to completely unwind from busy London] that we did not feel the need to venture too far!

Thank you so much Dimitris and Manolis, for everything, already looking forward to next time!

A fabulous property for a relaxing family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We booked this property on the basis of the other great reviews then hoped for the best. We were not disappointed. It was the perfect place for two weeks of relaxation. The villa is comfortable and very well equipped. It is maintained to a very high standard. The pool is a delight and you can always find the perfect spot to sit in the garden or by the pool (in the sun or shade, with the sea breeze or sheltered). There was plenty to keep our t(w)eens occupied - basketball, table tennis, table football, snorkelling kit etc - not to mention excellent wifi! There is access directly onto the beach. The bay is great for swimming, and it is easy to keep an eye on family members in the sea from the villa. The owners and agent are charming and hospitable. They looked after us wonderfully. As others have mentioned it is close to Stavros, which with its selection of cafes/tavernas (8 in a short walking distance) and a couple of nearby shops with all the basics we saw as an advantage. We would very happily return.

This was the best location I’ve ever stayed in!

  • 5 of 5

The location is great and Manolis was a fantastic host. He couldn’t have been more helpful. We were a party with two small kids (3 & 6) and four adults including my mum who’s in her 70s. The property was perfect for all of us. The kitchen was well stocked and included a lovely welcome pack.

The property is literally right on the beach - you step out of the gate staight onto sand. The outdoor facilities are fantastic, the beautiful pool with a lovely shaded seating area, plus also an outdoor kitchen area and a kids play area. There’s also a half basketball court for older kids.

Despite being so close to the beach, we didn’t feel overlooked, because the property is at the quiet end of the beach.

There are a few nice restaurants nearby and a couple of small shops.

Beautiful home in lovely Stavros

  • 5 of 5

Simply beautiful historic home with luxurious updates. Closer than we'd expected to the lovely village of Stavros but this was very convenient because of close tavernas. The beach is beautiful and there's a great hike up the mountain overlooking the protected bay. Thank you to Manilos for his expertise and kindness. This is a one of a kind vacation home perfect for families.

On the Beach!

  • 5 of 5

We are lucky enough to travel extensively and get to stay in lots of lovely locations and villas and we all agreed ( two adults and two children 15/12) that this was our favourite villa ever! It's the combination of beach location, fantastic outside spaces, basketball court, table tennis and beautiful pool that did it for us- the house itself became very secondary as you just want to be outside. (The house was lovely too, immaculately clean, well specified with fab a/c. )

What made the holiday even more special was the service we received before and during our stay- Manolis made himself available whenever we had a question and organised an absolutely brilliant day for us sailing along the south west coast in our own boat.

We will come back again in years to come.

Stavros beach
Car: recommended

Stavros, 16 km from the city of Chania, is little more than a scattering of houses and a few restaurants and hotels. The main cove is a narrow strip of sandy beach dominated by a mammoth rock – it famously served as the dramatic backdrop for the final dancing scene in the classic movie Zorba the Greek.

The main beach is located east of the village, at the foot of the mountain, and next to the picturesque harbor. A circular bay is formed, fully protected by winds blowing in the region. The lagoon-like bay has marvelous white sand and shallow turquoise waters. The contrast of the wild mountain with the peaceful beach in the foreground makes Stavros a unique place for swimming. As expected, the beach is very well organized and provides all possible services. The second beach of Stavros is located north of the village, 200m northwest of the main beach. It has sand and rocks in places and is less organized than the first, but cleaner. The main drawback of this is that it is unprotected and the sea is usually wavy. At the peninsula dividing the two beaches of Stavros, you can see the remains of the ancient quarry, used for extracting limestone for building the Walls of Chania during the Venetian Era (13rd- 17th century).

The sheltered cove is your best bet on a windy day.

The Akrotiri peninsula to the northeast of Chania, is a barren, hilly stretch of rock covered with scrub. It has a few coastal resorts, Chania’s airport and two interesting monasteries.

The beach settlememt of Kalathas, 10 km north of Chania, has two sandy beaches, lined by pine trees.

The area’s major cultural site, are the monasteries of Agias Triadas and Gouvernetou. The impressive 17th-century Moni Agias Triadas, is a visitor friendly monastery. The 16th-century Moni Gouvernetou may date as far back as the 11th-century, from a time when an inland sanctuary was an attractive refuge from coastal pirates.

On the eastern side of peninsula is the pleasant beach of Marathi, a lovely spot with two sandy coves and turquoise waters on either side of a small pier. Further south along this coastline you can find the beautiful bay of Loutraki

The allure and variety of Akrotiri beaches inspire the most pleasant form of wanderlust. There the freedom-loving wanderer can hike at will along rocky and sandy beaches.

You can enjoy your meal or coffee at one of the restaurants and cafes where are next to the beach. There you canalso find mini - market for your supplies and snack bar.On the beach there is a canteen and the sand is ideal for beach volleyball. On the western beach at Stavros , you can stop for a drink at the sun set Beach Bar , tucked under a huge tree with a shady timber deck and thatched umbrellas evoking the tropics. It also serves a range of local and international – style snacks.

All beach settlements at Akrotiri area have a beach bar during the day, also serving drinks & cocktails by night. The beach bar at Loutraki bay attracts many locals hosting many events. The best time is during the sunset, where the colors of the sea, sun and sky are fantastic. At Kounoupidiana there are a few beauty salons & spas for your treatment and relaxation.

Kounoupidiana you can find some shops with clothes, accessories, beach equipment, pharmacies and banks. There are also bakeries, butcheries and grocery stores for your villa supplies.

On the beach of Kalathas , 6 km from Stavros , you can take lessons water skiing, windsurfing and scuba diving. . Further south is another nice swimming and snorkeling spot at Loutraki.
