Spacious and cool the house has a large sitting and kitchen dining area on the ground floor as wells as a bathroom. 4 bedrooms and a bathroom are on the top floor. The total space of the house is 170 m2.

A large paved terrace is adjacent to both with BBQ facilities.

Stands in its own extensive grounds. It is private and the terrace looks out on the 17th century pigeon tower and vineyards as well as the pool: 9.4 X 4 meters with a shady pergola with an outdoor sofa.

Perfect French country home

  • 5 of 5

We spent a two week vacation at this wonderful home!! There were two couples and the house offered ample space inside and outside. The garden was picture perfect and was a joy to dine within its view on the stone patio. The inside had all the French charm we love! The house was situated equidistant from our day trips to Sauternes, Graves, city of Bordeaux, left bank chateaus, St. Emilion, etc. We especially enjoyed shopping at the market in Castillon-la-Bataille on Monday mornings and preparing meals in the kitchen with our fresh foods. Gundi and her family were wonderful hosts as we prepared for our trip from the US and when we arrived and settled in. We had such a lovely time and even didn't go out some days just so we could enjoy the home and the garden. We highly recommend this house and would definitely rent it again!!

2 week August vacation

  • 4 of 5

The property is set in an idyllic village with very few amenities (to be noted the village shop has been shut down) but close enough to neighbouring towns that a short drive for groceries was well worth it. Although the house was incredible and set in an incredibly maintained garden, there was only one facet of the holiday that turned a 5 star into a 4 star review. During our stay at the house we were unfortunate enough to be subject to micro-management from the owner. The owner would get very involved in our holiday plans, including sending the gardener in unannounced on more than one occasion. This very much encroached on our level of privacy. Although it was lovely that the garden was being maintained, we asked for the gardener to make herself known as not to startle ourselves or our dog. As a result, we felt as if we were not in control of our own privacy during the holiday. Communication was very effective with Gundi however, a few negative comments made during our stay were not only inappropriate but also put a dampener on the end of our holiday. We felt as though we paid for a relaxing 2 week break and found it appealing for it's privacy, but unfortunately we did not feel this was the case. As said before, the house in itself and the surrounding area was beautiful and inviting however the micro-management from Gundi and her team were unnecessary and will unfortunately prevent us from returning to L'Arbousier.

Owner's Response: We had made it clear from the outset that garden and pool need to be maintained. We allowed the guests to bring their large dog on the understanding that they will restrain it. They did not. We were all charged at by the dog which was scary. The gardener had been bitten by a dog and was fearful. In one instance the dog charged at the pool person and her frenetic attempts to get the animal off her caused the guests laughed their heads off, as witnessed by my neighbour. The Mairie lodged a complaint with me as the dog was seen roaming and there is a children's playground next door. Their behavior with their dog was completely unacceptable and selfish and we would not have them back under any circumstances.

Total relaxation

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at L'Arbousier in July this year and loved the property. It's totally relaxing and has all you need for a family holiday in the heart of a beautiful French wine region. Gundi was really great to deal with and very helpful with information before we arrived. The house and grounds are gorgeous...with lots of room to spread out. We enjoyed exploring during the day and relaxing on the patio in the evening with some local food and wine. There isn't much in the village itself but we were happy to drive to. Branne for supplies etc. There's also lots of local markets within an easy drive and St Emilion is worth a visit. Would definitely recommend the house for a holiday

Stunning home in Romagne Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

A truly exceptional holiday home. The property is beautifully restored and maintained. Bedrooms were tastefully decorated and the beds were very comfortable. The gardens were beautiful and the large pool inviting with the gorgeous weather that we had which was very welcomed by the whole family. Gundi and Brian were really helpful checking if all was well during our stay and information received by Gundi prior to the holiday with directions and the information about the house and places of interest was a great support and really appreciated. The house is situated close to amenities and beautiful towns such as Saint Emilion which is half hour away by car and the City of Bordeaux less than an hour !! Definitely recommend the night markets that are in little hamlets and villages around the area for great food and meeting the locals. We used the home for a 3 week family holiday inviting our sons and daughter over with their partners for the first week and parents for the rest of the holiday so the house was full the whole time but there was plenty of space for everyone and all who came would return again.

Thank you both for a truly exceptional holiday!

Superb!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay last year so much that we had to return again this year and it didn't disappoint! Such a beautiful setting it was hard to leave.

The gardens were as beautiful as ever and waking up to that view every morning was a delight. So much space for all the kids and the pool is a good size.

House was perfect for two families with one double and a single at one end of the house and the other double and single at the other end so the small people didn't disturb each other too much!

All well equipped and spacious - cannot fault it for a relaxing holiday.

charming farmhouse with the best kitchen & garden

  • 5 of 5

Gundi's classic French farmhouse was at once bright and cozy. The windows overlooked her magnificent garden and the kitchen was perfect for gathering the family cooking great foods gathered at the myriad daily markets in the area. The roses were in full splendor during our early May stay. Gundi's communication was exceptional and the home had all we needed in the way of comforts and amenities. We certainly plan on a return visit to this beautiful home and area. Romagne was the perfect launch-point for our daily excursions throughout the region. A perfect place for cycling the backroads through endless vineyards. Wish we were back there right now!"
