About Mary Dudley

We're a family of five. We purchased Lotus for family getaways but are now able to share our slice of heaven with people from all over the world.

Mary Dudley purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Mary Dudley chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

Our families have been vacationing in this beautiful, rustic, secluded neighborhood since 1968. We've acquired several properties since then.

What makes this cottage unique

Lotus is the ideal RELAXATION STATION. Coffee on the rockers overlooking the lake first thing in the morning is one of our favorite places in the entire world. You won't want to leave the three rocking chairs. We have a row boat waiting at all times. There is a bike trail .02 miles from lotus. bikes can be rented .09 miles away. There are many options to set up for a croquet championship or badminton tournament. While we do have corn toss boards, if you have your own bags, bring them along. Guests have caught nice fish on our lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Dudleys,

We thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay here at Lotus Point Lake House. We will definitely be back! Your home is beautiful and perfect for a relaxing vacation on the lake. We're looking for the exact spot of heaven. Can we buy this place? LOL. We hope our extended family will join us next time we come to Florida. Loved spending time on the enclosed porch listening to the sounds of wildlife and watching the cranes swoop over the lake and walk along the shore. Thank you for providing the bikes and rowboat. We biked the Withlacoochee Trail and fished from the boat (and caught fish!) Enjoyed an afternoon at Fort Island Gulf Beach, an afternoon at Rainbow Springs, andn an afternoon at Weekie Wachi. Breakfast at Bagels and more outside of Floral City on the way to Inverness is not to be missed. For visitors reading this entry who are visiting the area for the first time, be sure to see Cooter Pond Park in Inverness for turtles and gators. Also, Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park for the wonderful variety of animals and especially the beautiful manatees.

Thank you, Dudleys, for sharing your home with us.

Over priced for quality, cleanliness and unuseable amenities

  • 1 of 5

The following are issues we found during our stay:

Toilet tissue: one less than half-roll of toilet tissue and one only partial roll of toilet tissue - we purchased a 4-pack.

Paper Towels: about 4 sheets on the only roll in the cabin - we purchased a pack.

Dish soap: about a tablespoon in the smallest dawn bottle available. We purchased a bottle.

Dish Towels: Only one in the cabin - I purchased a pack.

Dish-cloths/sponge: One tiny sponge that was about 2"x3" in size. I purchased dish-washing cloths.

Coffee Pot: Was not clean. I cleaned it on Saturday night when we arrived (11:45pm) in order to use it the next morning. The outside looked as if someone had very dirty hands and left black smudging all over the top and outside. Pot stained as was coffee-filter area.

Microwave: The inside was not especially clean. Some food particles left uncleaned. It too had the black smudging on the handle and front area. I cleaned it, both inside and out before our use.

Dryer: The dryer lint basket was completely full. I cleaned it before using it (once).

Kitchen curtain over the sink: Needs to be washed in a bad way.

French doors to porch: Could use a fresh coat of paint, but at the very least, a good cleaning. The doors are rather dirty with lots of dirty handling marks all over, inside and outside. Glass could also be cleaned.

Floors: Were not swept, vacuumed or mopped. Against the baseboards and in the corners, behind the toilets, all the corner and edge areas along the baseboards had sand, hair, and debris that had not been cleaned in what appeared to be a while. I swept the main areas that we used when we arrived.

Den: There was a large, dried-spill on the floor between the love seat and the media desk. Appeared to have been there for some time. I did not clean that. We just didn't use that area.

A/C return needs a good cleaning, for both cleanliness and efficiency.

Mini-blinds: All of the mini blinds could use a real good cleaning.

The porch table-cloth was not clean. We did not use it as I did not clean it.

The rockers were rather dusty - I cleaned the two we used.

The little lights on the porch - one section is hanging down instead of tacked up in place.

The large boat was not useable. It did not have a plug.

The small boat was at best adequate, but the oars did not fit the oar holders, were not the same size and made it difficult to row the boat.

The life preservers were just laying outside under the carport, not clean and some mold.

Serene respite

  • 5 of 5

We came for a few days and wish we could have stayed longer. The house had all of the creature comforts and was a great get away from the hustle of the city. Mornings were spent drinking tea and watching the mist of the lake and great grey herons fish..... The afternoons were long walks and enjoying the local farm scenes, complete with goats, horses, donkeys, and even ponies. Evenings were wonderful on the back porch watching the sun sets. We hope to come back. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

perfect

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a long Easter weekend spent at Lotus Point. It was exactly what we were looking for. Beautiful views from every window, plenty of room, and a nice open kitchen/living space for all of us to be together comfortably. We ate at Shamrock Inn and really enjoyed it, made a big Easter dinner in the stocked kitchen easily. Was a bit upset that Ferris Groves was closed for the season, but hopefully next time. I definitely say to bring a lantern or some lighting along for the dock in the evenings, it's dark by the water. We did, thankfully. Saw lots of gators and caught some bass. We can't wait to go back.

Great Little getaway

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Lotus Point. The cottage was very close to lake - beautiful area, great view from front porch & most windows in the cottage face the lake. There are some houses on the other side of small channel but the neighbors were very quiet. The inside of the cottage is very nice - it is spacious, comfortable beds, & nice layout. There was a little issue with direct TV box not working but the owners were quick to rectify the problem. We took the row boat out on the lake & that was adventure as it was old & not used for a while but it didn't leak! It would have been better to have a canoe as it would of been easier to maneuver especially since there was marshy thick grass at the shore line we had to get through. Other than that, it was a great little vacation getaway.
